How can I see if my website was penalize by Google?
-
Hello,
I have a website http://digitaldiscovery.eu that I have been working for 7 months. Everything is alright in the index of the search engines like Google, Bing e Yahoo. I also have like 1000 visits a month wich is not bad for the topic Im pointing at in my country.
However my pagerank insist to be on 0, and I really dont understand why. Some of the my competitors that started at the same time, already have a pagerank of 3 and they do not have the same visitors that I do.
In the rank system of Alexa im climbing very fast and the visits of my website are growing. So why does the pagerank dont climb aswell?!
Tks in advance,
Pedro M Pereira

I do you have Google Webmaster tools installed. If you are penalized for say buying links or cloaking or something like that. Google would send you a message notifying you of the penalty.
-
If you don't purchase links in bulk for money and don't link your content from suspicious pages dealing with porn and sexual stuff, obtaining links from relevant pages you have got nothing to fear.
A goog one to read: http://www.seobook.com/archives/001792.shtml

Yeah, maybe I panic lol
Well so much hard work....I was worried. But Im more relax with your response
Anyway do you know a way to work the linkbuilding like easily without being penalize by Google?
Tks!!!
-
I am more and more convinced that you are not penalized. I cpied and pasted a sentence from your home page to google and you came up in first place: if you were penalized this would not happen: this is the strongest sign. I saw you only have 7 backlinks. If I were you I would spend my time on building more backlinks and don't give a s..t about PR it will surely climb. This algorythm is really slow. I saw sites with 30000 visitors a month and no pagerank. You are not penalized that is for sure. Keep working you are earning your money on visitros not on pagerank. Bumber os visitors is increasing. Your pagerank surely will as well, it is just a question of time.

You are not penalized, I am sure. Did you look at the tool I suggested? It is a pagerank prediction tool. As I said maybe the pagerank algorythm itself has to be updated and that is the matter. Did the prediction tool give any result?

Hey Pedro, I agree with Zsolt's response -- there are much more important factors than PR.
If you are creating great content, your rankings for various keywords is improving and you're bringing consistant or increasing traffic that is reading and sharing your content, you're doing the right thing.
Google is looking into so many different factors today than they were 5+ years ago.
What if you put up a new site dedicated to being the highest quality provider of content on Niche X. You could theoretically become very highly ranked and bring in good traffic in a short amount of time (depending on how much time/work you put into the site). If you were driving great, high quality traffic, what would increasing your PR do for you? Your users certainly don't care.
You can't get higher than ranked #1 for a KW
Good luck,
Jordan

Hello Zsolt,
First of all, thanks for the quick response.
Now imagine another situacion:
I have been working in one of the subdomains for 7 months. Everything is alright. I have no errors in Google Webmaster and Im also using software SEO programs like SEOmoz to improve the quality of the website.
I have some pages that are in the 1 place of google in some keywords. All good.
However my subdomain keeps a pagerank of zero. This situacion is wierd. Is there a way to see if my domains and subdomains have been penalize by Google, and are affecting the pagerank of that especific subdomain, or is it possible Google is doint that?

Hello Pedro,
If you are climbing fast in the serps and number of visiors coming from search engines are increasing you are not penalized for sure. Just think consequently: if you did not like somebody you worked with earlier as he did something serious that is against your firm rules would you have him to do part of your jobs or would you totally ignore him? If your site was penalized G won't let it rank high for any terms at all. It definately won't let it climb even higher.
Pagerank is an interesting fact to look at but don't get lost with it. Algorythms are updated periodically, not always. Maybe the pageran of your site was not updated since you lunched it. If you are really intrested you can have a look at this tool: http://www.selfseo.com/google_pagerank_prediction_tool.php
I think overall number of visitors, time on page, pages per visit, actual ranking are much more important factors than pagerank is. You should better give those more attention and your pagerank will climb sooner or later

Canonical error from Google
Moz couldn't explain this properly and I don't understand how to fix it. Google emailed this morning saying "Alternate page with proper canonical tag." Moz also kinda complains about the main URL and the main URL/index.html being duplicate. Of course they are. The main URL doesn't work without the index.html page. What am I missing? How can I fix this to eliminate this duplicate problem which to me isn't a problem?

I can't crawl the archive of this website with Screaming Frog
Hi I'm trying to crawl this website (http://zeri.info/) with Screaming Frog but because of some technical issue with their site (i can't find what is causing it) i'm able to crawl only the first page of each category (ex. http://zeri.info/sport/) and then it will go to crawl each page of their archive (hundreds of thousands of pages) but it won't crawl the links inside these pages. Thanks a lot!

Local Google vs. default Google search
Hello Moz community, I have a question: what is the difference between a local version of Google vs. the default Google in regards to search results? I have a Mexican site that I'm trying to rank in www.google.com.mx, but my rankings are actually better if I check my keywords on www.google.com The domain is a .mx site, so wouldn't it make more sense that this page would rank higher on google.com.mx instead of the default Google site, which in theory would mean a "broader" scope? Also, what determines whether a user gets automatically directed to a local Google version vs. staying on the default one? Thanks for your valuable input!

How can I index several systems used for my website?
My site is built on PHP, but has a help.website.com page based on a helpdesk platform. I also have a wordpress blog. So, these are three "different systems" under the same domain. When I crawl my site, neither the blog nor the help page show up. How can I make them show up? Thanks!

Can I put the tag in the MasterPage of my ASP.NET website or does this need to be specific to each page?
Hi Moz Community, I am a designer/junior SEO'er and have been working with our web developer to setup SEO oriented redirects and the rel canonical tag on our ASP.NET page running MasterPages - www.tisbest.org. I know setting up an incorrect canonical tag can be devastating so I'm hoping for some guidance. Can we put the <title> </span>Charity Gift Cards | Donation Gift Ideas | TisBest Philanthropy</p> <p style="color: #5e5e5e; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"> </span></p> <p style="color: #5e5e5e; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"></title> Thanks! New website
Hello, How bad is going to be if I change my Joomla website to Wordpress? I can check the 100 best pages and redirect them to the new url with 301 but my website has 424 pages. If is this needs time, how long does it take to be in the same position? Is Google review my new website quickly? What about if I make my services more specific and the main topic is going to be smaller in pages? (Mpre social services pages vs. less pages about the main webdesign topic) I should change my website to WP but I am afraid because now I am in the 2. 🙂 Thanks! Regards,

Our Development team is planning to make our website nearly 100% AJAX and JavaScript. My concern is crawlability or lack thereof. Their contention is that Google can read the pages using the new #! URL string. What do you recommend?
Discussion around AJAX implementations and if anybody has achieved high rankings with a full AJAX website or even a partial AJAX website.
