Canonical - how can you tell if page is appearing duplicate in Google?
-
Our home page file is www.ides.com/default.asp and appears in Google as www.ides.com.
Would it be a good thing for us to include the following tag in the head section of our website homepage?
-
Note: You should make sure all the canonical versions of this render properly as well. This way - all links and 'juice' or value are passed the the domain name you specify.
Checking Google webmaster tools will also help see any errors when handling duplicate content issues (for homepage or entire site). as this was also a new feature in recent months added by Google.
Cheers!

i would 301 default.asp to "/"
i would also make sure that I sam not using default.asp in any of my internal links.
Its not really the best use of a canonical.
A canonical will not redirect the user, so he still sees the default.asp, can still copy the default.asp and create link pointing to the default.asp that will leak a bit of juice when it is meged by the canonical.
You lose a little link juice when it is 301ed also, but at least then you are unlikly to get any more links copied with the default.asp

Does "google selected canonical" pass link juice the same as "user selected canonical"?
We are in a bit of a tricky situation since a key top-level page with lots of external links has been selected as a duplicate by Google. We do not have any canonical tag in place. Now this is fine if Google passes the link juice towards the page they have selected as canonical (an identical top-level page)- does anyone know the answer to this question? Due to various reasons, we can't put a canonical tag ourselves at this moment in time. So my question is, does a Google selected canonical work the same way and pass link juice as a user selected canonical? Thanks!

Duplicate Content on a Page Due to Responsive Version
What are the implications if a web designer codes the content of the site twice into the page in order to make the site responsive? I can't add the url I'm afraid but the H1 and the content appear twice in the code in order to produce both a responsive version and a desktop version. This is a Wordpress site. Is Google clever enough to distinguish between the 2 versions and treat them individually? Or will Google really think that the content has been repeated on the same page?

Web Page Dropped Out of Google?
One of our web pages seems to have completely dropped out of Google after featuring on page 1 for a number of years. It can't be a site wide issue as all other web pages are performing as normal. The page is http://www.contractormoney.com/income-protection/ and the key phrase it was performing well for was 'contractor income protection'. Any ideas??

Can I canonical the same page?
I have a site where I have 500+ Page listing pages and I would like to rel=canonical them to the master page. Example: http://www.example.com//articles?p=18 OR http://www.example.com/articles?p=65 I plan on adding this to the section from of the page template so it goes to all pages - When I do this, I will also add the canonical to the page I am directing the canonical. Is this a bad thing? Or allowed?

From page 1th to page 18th @ Google
Hello Mozzers! I have a question, you may help.. How may it be possible that a page ranking well (1th result) goes from 1th result to the 18th page just in 1 day? It doesnt seem to be any kind of penalization.. I now had all suspicious outgoing links to be nofollow (they were not before), this may be a cause .. (?) Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks

Can a Joomla template ruin a sites on-page seo?
Have been looking into a potential clients site that performs really badly, when I took a look in 'googlebot view' I see that every on page link appears- [visit camp26.biz] clients link title as expected insures against a negative affect. But having that as the first two words of every link title/anchor in the eyes of Google would seem to be something to be concerned about? Have tried searching for answers to this online but template providers are so prevelant everywhere I can't find any decent information on this issue. If anyone can throw some light on this for me it will be much appreciated : )
