Asking for a link in return for doing a webmaster a favor.
-
I had this idea that I would reach out to webmasters in my niche and offer to teach them something - for example, how to set up a killer Facebook landing page. In return I would ask them for a link from their site.
I have a few quesitons:
1. Would this be considered "white hat"?
2. How would you word the email to the webmasters? I was thinking of something like this:
"Hi [webmaster name]. I was checking out your website and your Facebook page. I was wondering if you would like me to show you how to create a great Facebook landing page that will gain you more fans. (As an example, you can see my Facebook page here: [insert link].) In return, all I ask for is a mention, in the form of a link, from your site. What do you think?"
What do you guys think?

LOL! I love your wording! That actually sounds great! It makes it sound much less like a spammy cheap SEO pitch and more like a colleague trying to help out a colleague!

Thanks! I'll let you know if I proceed this way!

Hello Marie,
I don't think it is a bad idea and I have no opinion as to how well it might work. I had to smile when I read the first sentence to the webmaster. Knowing a few, I would have to say you might want to slightly reword it. It could be perceived as a bit of: "Noticed your ugly FB page and thought you might want to learn something; I will teach you for a link!" So, soften it a bit and try being a bit self effacing in the beginning.
Hello webmaster, I am just learning the value of web masters and of linking and am trying to offer something in return for a little help. (Think of me as the internet version of the person on the street with the sign: Will work for food.) I have been told I am good at developing FB pages for business and if you had an interest, I would be more than willing to assist you with one for a simple link to my site. My FB page is here and my site is here........So, that's my two cents worth. Let me know how it goes.
Best.

This sort of thing happens all the time, and since I am in your niche, I might be interested.

Site Migration Question - Do I Need to Preserve Links in Main Menu to Preserve Traffic or Can I Simply Link to on Each Page?
Hi There We are currently redesigning the following site https://tinyurl.com/y37ndjpn The local pages links in the main menu do provide organic search traffic. In order to preserve this traffic, would be wise to preserve these links in the main menu? Or could we have a secondary menu list (perhaps in the header or footer), featured on every page, which links to these pages? Many Thanks In Advance for Responses

Which links to disavow?
I've got a new client that just fired their former SEO company, which was building spammy links like crazy! Using GSC and Majestic, I've identified 341 linking domains. I'm only a quarter of the way through the list, but it is clear that the overwhelming majority are from directories, article directories and comment spam. So far less than 20% are definitely links I want to keep. At what point do I keep directory links? I see one with a DA of 61 and a Moz spam score of 0. I realize this is a judgement call that will vary, but I'd love to hear some folks give DA and spam numbers. FWIW, the client's DA is 37.

Hi, I have opportunity to get a link from a brands website to our website as we are official retailers. Should I give them our homepage URL or should I give them their brands page on our website? The brand page will have their brand name in the URL, meta details, images, content and products. What is more beneficial SEO wise? Thanks

Advice on Link Building?
I know webmasters shouldn't focus on link building but unfortunately there are some types of content that doesn't get shared as much as other. And for content to go viral, it ain't that easy and it's almost impossible in some smaller niches where you don't have the volume to go "viral". That said I know about the common link building techniques. I know I can submit guest posts but when you're competing with websites that have over 10,000 backlinks, there is no way I'm going to get close to this with guest posting and commenting on other blogs. One way I found for getting backlinks is to publish interviews. Most of the time, people/businesses you interview like to link to this type of content. Publishing value-added content about other businesses' products or services may get some backlinks in return but not that often. So other than that, can some of you share some "out-of-the-box" link building strategies? Thank you in advance!

Do links to PDF's on my site pass "link juice"?
Hi, I have recently started a project on one of my sites, working with a branch of the U.S. government, where I will be hosting and publishing some of their PDF documents for free for people to use. The great SEO side of this is that they link to my site. The thing is, they are linking directly to the PDF files themselves, not the page with the link to the PDF files. So my question is, does that give me any SEO benefit? While the PDF is hosted on my site, there are no links in it that would allow a spider to start from the PDF and crawl the rest of my site. So do I get any benefit from these great links? If not, does anybody have any suggestions on how I could get credit for them. Keep in mind that editing the PDF's are not allowed by the government. Thanks.

Create a link or redirect?
We have 60 demo movie pages on our site. We no longer link to these movie pages internally, because they are outdated; however, a lot of our partner companies are still linking to these pages. Some of these pages will have 10-15 linking root domains and a page authority of 30+... so pretty decent authority. These pages only include a movie on the pages, no links. I am trying to pass some of the link juice from these pages to other pages on our site. I am wondering if I should: A)Include transcripts on these pages, then link back to our current product page or solution pages? B)Set up redirects from these pages to a product or solution page? C)Set up a redirect to our homepage? Any advice? Thanks, Mike

Should sitewise links always be branded
Hello, A client has 8 sitewide links with the same anchor text - their main keyword. They have 84 linking root domains total. 3 of the 8 are his own sites. 4 of the sitewide links are in the footer (all 3 of his own sites interlink in the footer) In the last 5 months, rankings for the the top 2 short-tail keywords have dropped even though they should rank higher. In a few days they're going to do some major rearranging with one of the 8, adding nofollows sitewide because of a partnership disagreement. Would there be any negative consequences, do you think, to right away changing all of the footer links of the 3 sites that the site owner owns to branded anchor text (domain.com)? Should we change all the sitewides to branded anchor text? There have been no problems in GWT.
