Optimising a page for multiple keywords
-
I remember reading a question a while back about seo for a page targetting multiple keywords but I'm blowed if I can find it now....
I have a page which is optimised for one phrase and want to add 5-6 phrases/keywords... obviously I can't stuff the all the keywords in the page title or the header 1 tag. So I have written the content to mention the other keywords trouble is not wanting to compromise the quality of the page so of the keywords/phrases I have only been able to use once in the content. I assumed as the phrases are all on the same topic/area that this should not really matter.
Apart from link building with the correct anchor text is there anything else I should be doing?
The other option is to create custom pages for the keyword but again I am not keen on this idea....
Any suggestions?

Cool thanks for this - I tried searching the SEOMoz site but could not find these.
I will see how things go.

Hey,
Both of these are a good read:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/targeting-multiple-keywords-vs-singular-keyword-focus
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/tactical-seo-how-many-termsphrases-should-i-target-on-a-single-page
In a nutshell though, there are no hard and fast answers and it depends on the keyword.
Some basic rules we work with
-
if it's a highly competative keyword, single page is best
-
if several keywords indicate the same user (searcher) intent and they are moderate competive then they are a good set for a single page
Really, if you look at some of the results that get returned in good positions, more and more we see pages that are not targeting the exact phrase you searched but Google understands the intent and returns the best result even if that is for a similar phrase.
This is also a good read in relation to the copywriting process:
http://www.highrankings.com/matt-cutts-seo-copy-339
Really, in 2012 and beyond, we don't want to be forced to write crippled copy to force our keywords in. Google should (and does) understand that for people to write better content, they have to be freed of the requirement to do stupid things to work keywords in to copy.
I would do some searching around those keywords, group them by intent and check the difficulty of each and see what comes up and use that to help guide your hand. If you can get several keywords on one kick-ass page then you only have one page to promote!
Hope that helps!

Title & Keywords
Hi Quick question on arrangement of keywords in titles. I know the order isn't so important anymore, but would there be a real issue if I want to rank for 'Henry Xtra' but my title reads 'Numatic Henry Xtra Vacuum Cleaner' Rather than 'Henry Xtra Vacuum Cleaner' ?? Will it really make much difference? Thank you!

May integrating my main category page in the index page improve my ranking of main category keyword?
90% of our sales are made with products in one of our product categories.

A search for main category keyword returns our root domain index page in google, not the category page.
I was wondering whether integrating the complete main category directly in the index page of the root domain and this way including much more relevant content for this main category keyword may have a positive impact on our google ranking for the main category keyword. Any thoughts?1 -
What is the impact of an off-topic page to other pages on the site?
We are working with a client who has one irrelevant, off-topic post ranking incredibly well and driving a lot of traffic. However, none of the other pages on the site, that are relevant to this client's business, are ranking. Links are good and in-line with competitors for the various terms. Oddly, very few external links reference this off-topic post, most are to the home page. Local profile is also in-line with competitors, including reviews, categorization, geo-targeting, pictures, etc. No spam issues exist and no warnings in Google Search Console. The only thing that seems weird is this off-topic post but that could affect rankings on other pages of the site? Would removing that off-topic post potentially help increase traffic and rankings for the other more relevant pages of the site? Appreciate any and all help or ideas of where to go from here. Thanks!

After adding a ssl certificate to my site I encountered problems with duplicate pages and page titles
Hey everyone! After adding a ssl certificate to my site it seems that every page on my site has duplicated it's self. I think that is because it has combined the www.domainname.com and domainname.com. I would really hate to add a rel canonical to every page to solve this issue. I am sure there is another way but I am not sure how to do it. Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so how did you solve it? Thanks and any and all ideas are very appreciated.

Keywords going to Subdomain instead of targeted page(general landing page)
Why are some of my keywords going to subdomains instead of the more general/targeted landing page. For example, on my ecommerce website, the keyword 'tempurpedic' is directing to the subdomain URL of a specific tempurpedic product page instead of the general landing page. The product has a page authority of 15 and the Tempurpedic landing pages with all the products has an authority of 31. I have also noticed that my 'furniture stores in houston' keyword directs to my "occasional tables" URL! instead of a the much more targeted homepage. Is there something I am missing here?
