What Would i do to get my site ranking high?
-
Hello Friends,
I need your help please tell me what would I do to get my site ranking high in Google search engine. When I start my work on my site my work blog commenting , social bookmarking, keyword targeting etc.… But now the scene is completely changing. Now I am working on just guest blogging. I don’t understand that what would I do next after the guest blogging. Because I think there is now just one way to promote your site VIA guest blogging. Now please tell me is there any other option to work and get high ranking?

_Ok probably I am going to take the bull by its horn. And probably I am going to get lynched publicly for this.
But here it goes. This is a valid reason to be worried about. Not all the business organizations are in a position to spend money lavishly on PPC or any other marketing platform. And I do not think that Google will ever going to penalize your website for guest blogging but again a note of caution; you should not keep all your eggs in one basket._
_However, you should not take guest blogging that way. The purpose of guest blogging is to share visitors and that is. Do not use exact matched anchor texts and do not abuse the system. The same goes with Forum posting. If you are in the forum, adding value to it, helping other people, solving issues; you have the right to add a link to your website in the signature section. And again, let me reiterate the fact that you should not abuse or game the system. As long as you are playing by the rule, you are safe. _

In addition to providing content that is useful and concentrating more on social media (which I both agree on), you have to ensure that your site is well structured for SEO success.
Read this short article about on site optimisation factors - http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/on-page-factors. Remember, you need to worry about external (links, shares etc) and internal (on site factors, a very good internal linking strategy etc).
These 2 go hand in hand, you need to have both to have successful SEO results.
Good luck!

Alex your reply is very helpful. In addition to Guest Blogging & Infographics, i recommend to more concentrate on Social Media also. Read this Post on Social Media : http://mashable.com/2012/08/22/search-rank-social-media/. As you know nowadays Social Media are very important part to get site ranked.

Provide content that people want to read, that is better than anything above your website in the SERPs. Or fill a valuable niche that hasn't been taken yet. Are you guest blogging for the sake of guest blogging and building links? If so, they're not good reasons - take a look at this: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-real-benefits-of-guest-blogging
I'm a bit worried about your comment "what would I do next after the guest blogging" as none of the tactics are things you should do in patches and then move on to something else - that won't look natural to the search engines. You need to commit to a mix of tactics over time.
This mammoth post is very useful too: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-noob-guide-to-online-marketing-with-giant-infographic-11928

Desktop Ranking Disappeared After URL Change; Mobile Ranking Improved
A client's developer moved a site onto a new (WordPress) CMS, where the only change was URLs - the front end code stayed the same. The site is 10+ years old and previously had fantastic rankings (#1-4) with inner pages for some relatively generic search phrases (eg 10,000 searches / month in the UK, per Keyword Planner). Now, on Desktop searches the site isn't appearing anywhere in the 300+ results for a key search phrase, where it used to rank between #2-4; however over the last 3 weeks on Mobile the site ranks better than before, even though the site isn't at all mobile-friendly (it's over 10 years old). During the move, there were some errors by their developer: mistakenly left in a sitewide rel=canonical tag referring to the homepage 3-4 301s before finally reaching new URLs a lot of 301s missed (250+ crawl errors appeared in Search Console) page content differentiation by parameter, instead of individual URLs For example, the page that used to rank for the targeted phrase, this left 4 different URLs indexed, with the same content. To tackle this, we have so far: put in correct rel=canonical tags set up Search Console to recognise URL parameter as differentiating content fixed all crawl errors appearing in Search Console added a link direct to the problem page, direct from the homepage stopped duplicate content being indexed (including for the page in question) ensured the page load speed is still good (< 0.75s) Ranking for Desktop over Mobile would make sense, but not Mobile over Desktop! I'd really appreciate any advice on how to tackle this. Thanks!

Site-wide Links
Hey y'all, I know this question has been asked many times before but I wanted to see what your stance was on this particular case. The organisation I work for is a group of 12 companies - each with its own website. On some of the sites we have a link to the other sites within the group on every single page of that site. Our organic search traffic has dropped a bit but not significantly and we haven't received any manual penalties from Google. It's also worth mentioning that the referral traffic for these sites from the other sites I control is quite good and the bounce rate is extremely low. If you were in my shoes would you remove the links, put a nofollow tag on the links or leave the links as they are? Thanks guys 🙂

Cross links between sites
hi, We have several ecommerce sites and we cross linked 3 of them by mistake. We realize that the sites were linked through WMT, We have shut down 2 of the sites about 2 months ago, but WMT still shows the links coming from those 2 sites. how do we make sure that google will see the sites are shut down. Is there a better of way resolving this issue. We are no longer using those sites, so do not need them to be active. whats the best solution to show google that the links are no longer there. Crawler shows that it was able to crawl the site 45 days after it is shut down. thanks nick

If so what's the best way to do this in wordpress? Many thanks

How to do a no follow on site search
We have a site search that is causing a huge amount of errors as the SEOmoz crawler is showing these as duplicate content. Our first thought was to do a no-follow on the site-search directory, but we realized that the site search is /site-search.aspx and URl strings appear at the end for hundreds of pages. How dow we/how can we no-follow an undetermined amount of URL strings?
