Rankings Drop Across Search Engines
-
Hello! I know this may sound a bit weird, but has anyone experienced any search engine rankings drop after Penguin on Bing and Yahoo as well? I am trying to locate the issue with one website I am doing optimization on and it has ranked lower on some keywords on all three search engines, directing me to suspect there's an issue with the site itself. Thanks!

Word is about Penguin 2.0 and that's the reason to post this question and start the discussion we are having. Rankings in top 10 keywords have dropped across the board. Meaning Google, Yahoo and Bing have done so as well. I am more keen to believe it's a website issue than simply blaming it all on Penguin 2.0 here. Or simply the campaign to remove spammy links is coming through for this website alone.

Are you talking about Penguin 1.0 or 2.0?
2.0 Just happened yesterday so that would explain Google

No I have not noticed any differences on other engines...it seems weird that they would have crawled your site and noticed new reasons to devalue your site.
When you say "some keywords" are they the same keywords affected across engines?

I earned some high-quality backlinks, but the target page's ranking is not improving. Why?
Within the last three months, I acquired five .EDU backlinks and two editorial links to a page ranking for a competitive keyword. After the first few links came through, the page jumped from #15 to #7. It stayed there with minor fluctuations for a couple weeks. I earned a couple more good links, and the page fell as far as #44. It has recovered a bit then, but has not returned to the first page. It is worth noting that the .EDU links were achieved by sponsoring university programs. Could Google possibly be recognizing this as a link scheme? Are the links being earned too quickly? I don't believe it could be either, as the links reside on high quality, trustworthy sites and there wasn't a sudden major influx of them. Thank you for your insight! Also, I think my username tricked Moz into thinking I'm a staffer. Not the case!

Sponsored Blog Posts - Inbound links harm ranking?

Our website: www.rapturecamps.com Blogs which have done a post about us: http://www.adventureinyou.com/10-best-surf-spots-in-bali/ http://thetravelhack.com/portugal/surfing-in-ericeira-portugal-with-rapturecamps/ Just wanted to double check with the Pro's here if that could harm our ranking? As i have a slight feeling it did actually, i cant proof it fully do. I hope i can get some answer here, these blogs are with good quality content, have a good PR and do allot of good blog posts. So i thought this should be only good for us.

I've watched a few backlinks disappear from our inbound link search.
After inquiring to Moz.org about this, they suggested this might be due to a new feature that was rolled out, however, this 2 year old backlink still hasn't shown up and I'm a little concerned. Has anyone else experienced this?

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?
My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,

Over 47.000 inbound links from one site - can it hurt my rankings?
Im currently having some banner commercials on a relatively large Danish forum. I talked the forum owner into maing the banner "dofollow" so i could get the "juice" from the site, however im in doubt if this is good or bad for my SEO. Webmaster tools is telling me that i now have over 47.000 links from this forum. it seems like a Lot of links considering that i only have external links from about 5 other sites and the fact that my site is quite new. It seems like my site is not ranked very good yet(as mentioned in another question). I hope someone has some input 🙂 Best reguards

How to improve ranking on .com vs 'local' .no
Hi I am ranking 1st for my main keyword (barneklær-childrens clothing) on google.no. I got a bit surprised to see we are close to bottom of page 2 for same keyword on google.com. This keyword is as you probably understandreally country specific because the norwegian letter -æ . So if I take a look at the list at google.com its really the same sites I am outranking on .no. For this keyword local stats pr month is 22k and global is 29k (from google adwords). Even though our site is norwegian only - all of the global traffic is relevant due to the fact that this is a norwegian only word. Main reason we are ranking first on google.no i think is that we ve had articles on the strongest and most relevant blogs in Norway. I am guessing we somehow need to improve our international linking profile - right ? Do i then need US sites ? Is it enough with sites outside Norway? Any suggestions, its not easy to get international links to a norwegian site only dealing with childrens clothing. Thanks in advance... Dan Lærum
