Is submitting site map advisable after 1.5 yrs
-
Hello,
is submitting site map advisable after 1.5 yrs - especially when we are finding mostly all of pages getting indexed
we have basically 2 questions
- is submitting site map good for seo and crawling
- Does it not hinder the crawler to index the submitted pages only - as we get on close to 250 - 300 new pages monthly on site added on every month
Basis above - seek expert opinion to
- submit site map to google or not ?
-
If yes - in how much time do we need to update site map
-
which are good site map generator sites

Depending on your sites hierarchy and structure, the sitemap may make the whole crawling process easier for Google rather than making the crawler dig through your menus and links to find pages within your site. So in that case, it wont limit Google.
Sitemaps can also include instructions on how often a page changes to determine how often Google should revisit that page. If your pages that have already been crawled are fairly static and do not change often, set the crawl frequency rate to low so you dont have to worry about taking up too much of your crawling bandwidth on already indexed pages.
Here is a good blog post about setting your sitemap page priority levels:

Hi May,

just a query - when a site map is submitted , and later on when new pages n urls are been added - will it not limit google to crawl only the pages as per site map and not additional pages.

Hi
I would say yes, I am of the belief that a sitemap is never a bad idea and submitting one (even later on) won't hurt anything. It also sounds like you have a rather large site, so this will help get those new pages added each month crawled. Even if all of your URLs are indexed, you can still use sitemaps to provide Google with information about other content such as videos and mobile versions of your site (if any). It should actually help the crawler rather than hinder it.
As far as generator sites, I don't have a particular one to recommend but doing a google search for "sitemap generator" pulls up a lot of results. You may want to test some of those and see what works best for your needs as many of them limit the number of pages crawled.
If you are using a CMS like Wordpress or Joomla there are sitemap plugins to help with this process.

Site Speed Testing Tools For Production Sites
Hi Guys, Any free site speed testing tools for sites in production, which are password protected? We want to test site speed before the new site goes live on top priority pages. Site is on Shopify – we tried google page insights while being logged into the production site but believe its just recording the speed of the password page. Cheers.

301 old site to new site?
I have client with an old site - www.bestfamilylawattorney.com - which had a lot of spammy links (and bad rankings). Instead of fixing those issues, we started a new URL - www.berenjifamilylaw.com - with new content and redesign. Should I do a 301 redirect from old to new domain? If the old site was being penalized, would a 301 transfer that penalty? I just want to make sure I don't end up hurting the new site after doing all the work to start fresh. Thanks.

Are Their Any SEO Dangers When Cleaning Up a Site
I'm doing some housekeeping on my website. Removing old blogs that are out of date (2008) or things have moved on. The blogs I'm removing are being 301'd to relevant newer blogs. Can this type of clean up cause any problems that affect the optimisation of a site? Looking forward to hearing your views. Christina

Mobile Site Outranking Main Site
Hi, We have recently been hit with a problem regarding our mobile site, where it is outranking our main site. This is causing a drop in orders and ranknings for our main site. It would appear that google has indexed our mobile site and so the two are now competing against each other. Our main site is on a .co.uk and our mobile site on a .mobi, but we have now taken down the mobile site until we get this sorted. Does anyone else have any experience of this happening and how to stop it happening again? Thanks Steve

HTML 5 sites, segmentation and Meta data?
Hello Mozers, I am currently building an HTML 5 site. I've run into a couple of issues. While implmenting segmentation in each of my mian menu iten, I am able to pluggin Meta data only for one segement (or the page). I am unable to inser Meta data for each of the segments. For example: I have (main menu) Services ----> Submenu (teaching, upgrading, Dancing) I can implement meta data for the Services but not for teaching, upgrading and Dancing as they are segment in the same page. Whats the best logic to get around this

Duplicate content on ecommerce sites
I just want to confirm something about duplicate content. On an eCommerce site, if the meta-titles, meta-descriptions and product descriptions are all unique, yet a big chunk at the bottom (featuring "why buy with us" etc) is copied across all product pages, would each page be penalised, or not indexed, for duplicate content? Does the whole page need to be a duplicate to be worried about this, or would this large chunk of text, bigger than the product description, have an effect on the page. If this would be a problem, what are some ways around it? Because the content is quite powerful, and is relavent to all products... Cheers,
