Store locator searches online and offline store visits
-
Hi All,
What is the accepted % for visitors that conduct a store locator search online actually visiting that particular store for the nutrition industry? (For example if 50 people used the store locator search on the website , we can confidently say that 25 of them actually went to that store)
Any input or reference to studies/white papers on this topic would be appreciated.
Cheers,
SEO5..

Interesting question and i get what you are after. Herein lies the issue: the variables are too many to develop a constant about this. IMO.
So, let's say there are 10 nutrition stores online and half have retail locations within a fixed area - does the fact that there are people choosing totally online options affect the number?
If of the 5 locations with retail, 2 are in densely populated areas does that affect the number of people who go to those stores more or less than the 3 that are in less densely populated areas? What if one of the three is truly rural?
Also, what if the product arrangements are different?
What if shipping is presented in a different way for each? So, if I buy whey protein isolate in a large container that weighs 10 lbs and one ships and the other doesn't...So, it is just too difficult to isolate. You would have to set up a fairly controlled test to get close for your specific area. I do not believe you can get better than =/- 25% even with the best test.
Sorry,
Robert

Drop in Android organic search
Hay Moz Community, I have been analysing traffic fluctuations for a few websites and have found a noticeable drop in organic traffic from android devices. I initially thought it could be a generic mobile drop but iOS is holding its own? Can anyone share any insights they may have come across to explain the drop on android specifically. Thank you in advance

Google Analytics Segments - Can't find location
Hi all, I am trying to set up a Google Analytics segment with the location as 'Kurdistan'. I have tried all location groupings (city, region etc) and am unable to locate it. Anyone else not able to locate it? Or does anyone know why I can't? Thanks,

Has anyone found a best practice for ranking a client who has one central office location, but a large, regional service area that they want to rank for?
All the most recent local search ranking is based upon physical addresses, but what happens when someone provides services and has staff 100 miles from that central office location, but no physical address to work with?

How to best figure out synonymous search phrases
I'm curious about synonymous key phrases and competitive key term analysis. I have a few methods for conducting research to find what phrases Google considers synonymous but they are very time consuming. What are some ways to figure this out? An example would be livestock and cattle. Are there any good ways to figure out user intent related key phrases? For example in our niche if someone is looking to purchase something Google often delivers pages with title tags that include the term supplies. Would it be advantageous to optimize for these types of key phrases if the competition is less or should I assume that Google groups exact match and synonym and intent match together when calculating relevancy. Eg I can choose to target livestock or cattle on page. Livestock gets a quarter the search volume cattle gets but has half the competition. Will I be competing against the cattle sites too? If so should I just bite the bullet and target cattle?

How do you know if you have been penalized by search engines?
How do you know if you have been penalized by search engines? I logged into my Google and Bing webmaster accounts and all looks ok, but in the last 30 days, my organic traffic has decreased 33%. My traffic usually steadily increases and if there is ever a decrease, it's usually very small.

Location subdomains?
We were contacted by a company that claims they want to build us a local. sub domain that targets only local traffic and operate on a rev share model. I'm very weary of this and can think of many things wrong with it, but I was asked to look into it. I'm about to give them a call to see what they are all about, but I always get great advice from the moz community so I thought I'd reach out to hear your opinions. Thanks!
