How do I setup a logged-in vs. non logged-in custom variable in Google Analytics?
-
I found an example of the snippet to use:
__gaq.push(['.setCustomVar,
1, // first slot
'user-type', // custom variable name
'visitor', // custom variable value
2 // custom variable scope - session-level
]);Once the visitor logs into your website, we change this code, accordingly:
__gaq.push(['.setCustomVar,
1, // first slot
'user-type', // custom variable name
'regular-user', // custom variable value
2 // custom variable scope - session-level
]);How does the code know to change from 'visitor' to 'regular user' once a user logs in?
Is the snippet only placed on the login page?

AtoQ1: Most likely the only way to set/keep that variable would be session variables or cookies.
AtoQ2&3: It would be better if developer handles this part of setting/reading/sending variables. The way to ask is just ask. Show developer this post and the documentation from google on this subject.

I was using Universal Google Analytics, but looking at an old example, so thanks for the heads up on that.
What would this global variable look like?
Would this be something I could detect using developer tools?
How would I ask my developer for this piece of information?
-
Hello, my friend. first of all, it seems that you are looking/using old version of google analytics. so, I recommend using new Universal Google Analytics. Here is the documentation on custom variables (and that's what you're talking about) - https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/custom-dims-mets?hl=en
Now, what you're talking about is custom variables, which you can send to your Google Analytics to track specific events. It means that you have to push (_gaq.push) custom values to custom variables whenever you decide it's supposed to happen. So, code doesn't know how to change it, you have to tell it. For example, change some kinda global variable in php or js or whatever you're using when user logs in, and then using conditional statement push correct custom variable.
Hope this make sense.

Unsolved Google Analytics (GA4) recommendations for SEO analysis?
Guides on Moz and elsewhere mostly refer to Google Analytics' Universal Analytics (UA). However, UA is being replaced with GA4, and the interface, options, and reporting are very different. Can you recommend a clear, thorough, and effective walkthrough of how to set up useful SEO reports in GA4? Is there a simple tool you recommend that will help connect historical data from UA to GA4 when GA4 is the only option available? If there's no simple tool, what values do you recommend retaining from UA for effective historical reporting? How would you use them? At minimum for reporting, I'd want to show month-to-month changes and year-to-year changes (in percentages and in real numbers) for the following: all site visits all organic visits organic visits as a percentage of all site visits organic visits that led to a specific goal completion organic visits that led to any goal completion Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi There, I am about to implement analytics for a customer site and I am wondering if I should use Google Analytics or https://www.afsanalytics.com ? I am leaning towards Google since it's pretty mainstream but I would love some feedback on the AFS ! Thanks everyone! Gary

Google analytics : exclude traffic to a subdomain
Hi, I have a website with a client access on a subdomain. I want to exclude the traffic to that subdomain because it messes up my conversion goal for the main site. Per example, 2 out of 10 visitors are existing clients that want to access to my SaaS product. The 8 other are potential clients. I want to exclude the 2 clients from my stats so I could have the good conversion percentage for my free trial for the other 8 potential clients. Thanks in advance for your help!

How do you set www vs non-www in Bing Webmaster Tools?
A site of mine is showing as example.com instead of www.example.com in Bing and Yahoo. I know where to set the preferred domain to www in Google Webmaster Tools, but I can't seem to find that function in Bing Webmaster Tools. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Individual or Separate Google Analytics Accounts for Each Country Location?
We have 3 websites. USA, Germany and UK. Currently our analytics account is set up with 1 account with each domain as a Profile. I am wondering if I would see more accurate results if I have them set up individually, under the same Google account, but different Analytic accounts. The reason I wonder is because I noticed when I was going through setting this up, it asked for each Country Time Zone for each domain. I was not sure if this was for me to see the times, or if this was to provide more accurate data. Maybe this is just a personal preference topic?

Tracing Google Analytics 'goal' back to original search phrase
I added Goals to my Google Analytics tracking. It's working; I get visitors who have completed Goals showing up in the reporting. My question is: Is it possible to trace backwards from a completed Goal to the original search phrase a user entered in Google to come to my site (for those who entered from Google.com via organic search result)? I'm trying to answer the question of which search phrases are resulting in completed Goals (as opposed to bouncing off the site or just any behaviour other than completing a Goal). It seems like this should be one of Analytics' default reports -- help identify which search phrases are converting well. It's probably there and I'm just not seeing it... Thanks.
