Social Media Causing Duplicate Content
-
Recently, I spent some time in the SEO MOZ Crawl Diagnostics, and found that I have 40 pages that are being listed as “duplicate content.”
These are original blog posts, but I made the mistake of sharing on social media immediately after publishing each post. I recently found out that if you post on a blog and on social on the same day, Google indexes the social first, and then up to 2 weeks later indexes the actual blog post. When it does, it stamps the blog post as duplicate and the social media posting as the original.
Any ideas on how I can rectify this? Any code I can put in each blog post to let Google know they’re the original? I’ve begun publicizing my blogs on social 14 days after I actually publish them to alleviate the issue going forward, but I’d like my 40 other blog posts to get the authority they deserve.

Hi Jacob!
Dirk is absolutely right—the Duplicate Content notice in Crawl Diagnostics indicates that our crawler is fining those instances of duplicate content on your site. As he suggests, I'd definitely recommend using the CSV to figure out which pages are showing up as duplicates.

Thank you for the further clarification.

Hi Jacob,
My point was that if the Moz crawler find duplicate content it has to be on your site - the Moz crawler is only crawling your site - not the social media. It may well be that you also have duplicate content issues across sites because you post on social media as well but the Moz crawler is completely unaware of that. The original advices remains valid - check which pages Moz considers to be duplicates and act accordingly.

Dirk

Hi,
If the Moz crawler is finding duplicate content it implies that there is duplicate content on your site, not duplicate content on social media.
You can download the csv in the crawl report (or click the + icon) to see which pages Moz considers to be duplicates. Comparing the pages can help you find a solution (like a canonical url, or a 301 redirect, ...)
Hope this helps,
Dirk

Blog posts copied to Facebook or Linked? Any Duplicate Content Issues?
I wasnt able to find any good answers on this. I have two separate ecommerce websites, one with a top level blog. (www.xyz.com/blog) and different website with a subdomain blog (blog.xyz.com)***note on the subdomain blog, although it links to our website. You cannot directly shop from it. Until i can make some sort of scraper, its what I have to work with. For quite some time now I have been copying the blog posts and re-creating them on facebook as a Note. Using the same anchor text/links on facebook as my blog post. Part of the issue is that I want the facebook pages to have some content and not just links. Both get 2-3 updates per week, 1 of those being a blog re-post. Does anyone know if google or bing considers this duplicate content? Should I simply link directly to the blog everytime, as a best practice? Any insight on this would be great. Thanks!

Problems with Google Analytics social tracking
Hi folks, Any GA experts out there available to help with a social tracking problem we've got? In short a client is using a ShareThis plugin, but the data we're seeing in GA doesn't correlate at all with the share counts showing on the plugin. Huge discrepancies in fact. Could do with someone taking a look at the page and seeing what part of the tracking code we need to update/fix. We'll make it worth your while. Please PM me if you can help. Thanks! Matt.

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

Do Your Social Metrics Such As Tweets Transfer With a 301?
Got asked this today, and I don't know the answer, so throwing it out there to all your mozzers! If I 301 redirect a page that has built up a lot of tweets, likes, shares, even +1's, does that social data get transferred over to the new page in as far as social strength/ authority is concerned? Would Google still be able to see the previous version of this page had x amount of tweets etc, and take this into consideration when ranking the new page?

B2B social share
Hello, Social sharing is a positive signal for SEO.Google told on its blog, Googlebot take car of more than 200 social websites. Sometime Twitter and Facebook aren't good marketing places because business isn't B2C but B2B. So customers doesn't use them for job, but they use Linkedin, Viadeo, Xing, and maybe some other. I can't be present onto all social website, I've to choose the most relevant.

Duplicate Content
I have a question regarding non-original content on multiple sites. I'm working for a client that's company has a personalized social network for it's fans (completely custom, built from the ground up - not like kickapps, or the other social network dev platforms). Anyway the network is fairly active - at least a couple thousand users - and each one of these sites is given a subdomain. Each of these subdomains can be given a custom URL if purchased - but essentially it's much like creating a blogger or wordpress. Each URL is basically "http://FanUsername.BrandName.c0m/" Now the dev had the genius idea of publishing all "corporate/company" blog posts on everyone of these subdomains as well. When first learning of this, I told them it was a terrible idea - and that it may even penalize the main blog. After more research - it looks like this may not be the case? I still think they should just link back to the main blog and discontinue publishing these posts on all of these additional subdomains (and for those that purchased domain names - unique websites). What do you guys think? Should they only include an RSS feed of links back to the main blog? Should they just link directly back to the blog? Or should they offer shortened versions of each blog post - ala links + meta description + Read More...? Or lastly, should they just keep as is? Thanks for the help
