How best to handle partial domain move?
-
The scenario is this, we have a website eg: ABC.com where the content is in two language folders (en-us and en-gb).
We have created a new brand with website XYZ.com for the USA market. Of course, this domain will take a while to rank because it is completely fresh.
My question is how best to deactivate the en-us content on the old site to:
a) prevent it showing up on Google US
and
b) pass the US traffic to the new website to boost its rankingsI was thinking of removing the en-us pages from ABC.com and using a 410 error page containing a link to XYZ.com
Would it be better to replace the content on en-us instead (with a link)?I'm not keen to use a straight 301 redirect as sometimes we get traffic from other countries to the en-us content.
Thanks in advance Mozzers

Thanks Martjin, the first site does use href lang tags but we want to lower the profile of that site in the USA and pass some link juice from it to the new USA website.

Hi,
Look into the use of HREF Lang tags, they could help you out by still having two sites, not redirecting the pages and having them show up in search engines for both regions/ languages. if you haven't heard about it, you can find more information on them here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/hreflang-tag
Hope that helps a bit.

Redirecting a Few URLs to a New Domain
We are in the process of buying the blog section of a site. Let's say Site A is buying Site B. We have taken the content from Site B and replicated it on Site A, along with the exact url besides the TLD. We then issued 301 redirects from Site B to Site A and initiated a crawl on those original Site B urls so Google would understand they are now redirecting to Site A. The new urls for Site A, with the same content are now showing up in Google's index if we do a site:SiteA.com search on the big G. Anyone have any experience with this as to how long before Site A urls should replace Site B urls in the search results? I undestand there may be a ranking difference and CTR difference based on domain bias, etc... I'm just asking if everything goes as planned and there isn't a huge issue, does the process take weeks or months?

Unique domains vs. single domain for UGC sites?
Working on a client project - a UGC community that has a DTC model as well as a white label model. Is it categorically better to have them all under the same domain? Trying to figure which is better: XXX,XXX pages on one site vs. A smaller XXX,XXX pages on one site and XX,XXX pages on 10-20 other sites all pointing to the primary site. The thinking on the second was that those domains would likely achieve high DA as well as the primary, and would passing their value to the primary. Thoughts? Any other considerations we should be thinking about?

Domain Mapping, WordPress MultiSite
Hello, With WordPress MultiSite, does Domain Mapping negatively impact search rankings? I am wondering if the search engines can tell if the Domain is part of a MultiSite Network. Or does it just see the site as a regular website? I understand the issue of IP Address and C Blocks but I'm wondering if the search engines will treat a Mapped Domain Name as it would any other website that is on a shared hosting account. Thanks

Moving from Shopp to WooCommerce...
My site is ranking well on most of my products and honestly, I don't do the best job in "on product page" SEO. I've got solid URLs for each, but my "on page" grades are mostly C, D and Fs. 😞 I honestly feel fortunate that I'm ranking well and have "put off" doing much work knowing that I was going to change from the Shopp wordpress plugin to Woocommerce. Is there anything structurally that will potentially hurt me from changing framework? Do I need to make sure that the URLs are the EXACT same for each of my products or will it be okay to make them better? Ex. some pages have a less desirable URL because I just "copied" the previous item. Thanks in advance for your experience.

SEO Best practice for competitions
I am considering running a competition and wanted to get some feedback on SEO Best Practice. We will have a unique competition URL - following the completion of the competition it will be 301'd to home page Every entrant will be given a unique URL for the competition to share, if someone enters using there URL they get an extra ticket. This means we will create a large number of new unique URL's over a short period of time, the pages however will have the same content. Is this potentially bad for Duplicate content?Any advice? Perhaps a canonical tag on all unique competition entrant URLs? Any other considerations?

Move webshop domain to the brand domain?
Hello, A client of mine has a brand with a website for over 10 years now.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Seeders
About 4 years ago the have opened a webshop on an other domain (like www.brandnamewebshop.com). At this moment the brand domain has a seomoz authority of 45.
The webshop domain authority is 25. The question:
Would it not be better to transfer the webshop to the brand domain because of the domain authority? If so, how can this be done the best way? With a 301?
I also think: what a loss of energy of building the authority on the other domain.
Is it an idea to use both domains for a webshop and rewrite the content? Or is there an other way to still make use of the built up domain authority? Would it really help the other domain when I make a 301 redirect (and make use of the pointing links to the webshop domain?). I hope somebody have some experience with this...
Looking forward to the possibilities! Gerjan0 -
Best tools for exploring links?
and not just every single link, but ones you know that Google is actually indexing. I find seomoz to be super easy, but there is no way to distinguish links that are actually counting "juice", or am i missing something. What about majesticseo - any other similar tools you use when trying to find linking sites that pass juice?

Recovery during domain migration
On average, how long does it takes to recover 80% of the rankings if two high authority domains are combined without chaging any content? I totally understand that each domain is different and search engines can treat them differently but if all the steps are followed to the T what are the chances?
