Is it possible to rank a second site, for my buisness, for the same location?
-
I have an insurance agency, and recently set up a new site, specifically for personal lines insurance.
My question is; Is it worth trying to rank this site, by using backlinks and unique content?
It will have the same address, and location as my main site.
I'm also concerned Google may frown on that.. Any input appreciated.

I have had clients request to build two sites at once, launch them, and see which one is favored more in Google's eyes. Same thing with individual pages-- "G" seems to like one and bury the other.
Building one on the side when the existing site is already indexed is probably going to be a risky venture.

If you are trying to rank two sites, owned by the same company for the same (or VERY similar) products/services at the same address, with content that can never be anything other than very closely related I'd suggest that this will look (rightly or wrongly) like you're game the system and Google don't like that at all. A read through of Google's Webmaster Guidelines might help you get a better understanding of what they consider to be good (and bad) practice: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769?hl=en
Is there any scope for you to simply bring a personal lines insurance section under your main agency site, for example? I'd expect greater success doing this as you're not trying to get two bites of the cherry.
If you were to go with a separate site, you can openly use the same content across both sites by using rel=“canonical” tags to indicate to Google (other search engines are available) that given URLs are effectively carrying the same content - Ideal if you have content that is accessible across multiple websites - as this will not impact negatively on your rankings. That said, unless there is some industry specific regulation that dictates you cannot be part of insurance agency I'd be keen to keep it on the straight and narrow and build all the content under one roof.
If you want to increase your visibility, you can potentially appear twice on the page by running a very tightly targeted AdWords campaign (you can run it for a small geographic radius) - perfect if you typically deal with local customers, face to face.
Whatever way you approach this, the potential short-term gain of beating the system (i.e. having two sites running for very similar searches) is not worth the potential long-term pain of getting caught out.
Good luck

How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?
Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? I’m asking if the work to get clients/partners do this help. I have a hypothetical question for you all! Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Backlinks from non-relevant site
There's a forum I used to participate in that allows you to include a link to your website in your signature block. I have over 500 posts in the forum so that provides a lot of backlinks to my website. However, I recently decided to remove my website link from my signature for two reasons: The forum is 95-99% dead. Hardly anyone uses it anymore. BTW, the website that houses the forum is still popular within is niche (articles, etc). Just the forum appears to be dead. The website and its forum really have no connection whatsoever to my business. I'm in a completely different niche. However, I have no idea if I've made the right decision. Will removing my signature and the backlinks hurt my site? Or will it help it since the other site really isn't related to mine? Thanks for any thoughts on this!

How to find article sites that will be very picky
I'd like to write good, unique content, and one of the places i was looking at was article repositories. I do understand that most of them have been spammed to death, but I was wondering how I would go about finding ones that would accept my article. I do realize that niche news/forum/informational sites are probably my best bet. Beyond that, would would be a step down or a 'general' article directory where I could get something approved and post content that is high quality. I'm not sure I have time to go around to every niche site and make the handshakes necessary at this time.

Struggles with Rankings
Links seem to be very important to the success of websites today. That said, they are real tough to come by in my specific industry. Plus the president of the company does not want any links on the site, so,................... thats where I am. I paid for links in the past and that was a big mistake!! I am still looking to gain a few links for the website (www.allianceconcretepumps.com) is ezinearticles.com a good location to post aricles in hopes to get links? If it is a good location, do you know of any other ones which would be beneficial? I know I could use some more and better sight content......... I have quite a lot of fresh stuff in the works not just up yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks.........? Any other words from the wise are very much welcome. Thank You Dave

Is there way to identify all back links throughout a site or do I have to check one site page at a time? Thanks!
Sorry if it is obvious, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'd like to be able to run a report that will list all of the back links on every page of my site.

Why does Open Site Explorer list Twitter and Facebook links for one of my sites and not others
One of my sites has the nofollow backlink listed for Facebook and Twitter while 2 other sites do not. All 3 sites have had accounts for over a year. Does the amount of interactivity with the social media profiles have to do with it? I know it is a nofollow link but I was just curious as those profiles might help with the brand signal etc.
