Google +1 link on Domain or Page?
-
Since its release, I've seen Google +1 being used across an entire domain but only reference the root href in the code snippet. At the same time, you see other sites use +1 more naturally with the button being specific to the page you're on.
What's your take on this?
To clarfiy, do you add:
or
.. on each page.
-
I think we are presently in a "too new to tell" stage. It also seems this is a metric which will be watched very closely by Google and may be adjusted multiple times this year.
With that said, intuitively the weighting style would be similar to a link. Would you prefer a link to your home page or to a deeper page? The same logic should apply.

I have a question about this:
If you place the Google +1 for the domain only, wouldn't that benefit all of the domain's pages?
Wouldn't it be better then to just increase the Google +1 metric for the domain, and in consequence increase the social value of the entire domain? -
Yeah certainly cant get more clear. Having similar uptake ourselves.
-
Very slow uptake for most it seems - I have gone to the page level with mine.
Even with an arrow and reminder pointing to mine, very few click on them - see here:

Can't get any more clear I dont think!

It really depends on your site.
If you have a site with less then 10 pages, I would prefer the home page as the target.
If you have a well developed site, then most likely the subject of the +1 / Like / Tweet would be content located on a specific page, and not the overall site. For example, a specific blog article should be the focus of the +1 and not the general site.
If you have a forum site or offer a lot of products, then you can drill down to the specific product or post on a page.
-
Good question. I was only thinking of implementing it at home page level or as you suggest across the site but pointing to the root. I guess at this stage a lot of it depends on speculation about the impact of +1 and your website design.
P.S. While on the subject of +1 has anyone had any success with it so far? In terms of visitors using it.

Can 'Jump link'/'Anchor tag' urls rank in Google for keywords?
E.g. www.website.com/page/#keyword-anchor-text Where the part after the # is a section of the page you can jump to, and the title of that section is a secondary keyword you want the page to rank for?

Home Page not ranking?
Hey guys, I'm working on a relatively new client and have noticed that all the initial rankings that we have point towards a sub page rather than the home page. Only a branded search appears to bring up the home page which seems really strange. Any ideas? Home page; www.geraldmiller.com Sub page (ranking); www.geraldmiller.com/dwi-dui-defense

Duplicate Domain Listings Gone?
I'm noticing in several of the SERPs I track this morning that the domains that formerly had multiple pages listed on pages 1-3 for the same keyword are now reduced to one listing per domain. I'm hoping that this is a permanent change and widespread as it is a significant boon to my campaigns, but I'm wondering if anyone else here has seen this in their SERPs or knows what I'm talking about...? EX of what I mean by "duplicate domain listings": (in case my wording is confusing here) Search term "Product Item" Pages ranking: domain-one.com/product-item.html domain-one.com/product-item-benefits.html etc...

To link or redirect? That is the question.
I have a site that I don't really use any longer but still has some okay rankings. I'd like to take advantage of the links point to that site. Is it better to redirect that site to my new one or to just place a link on the homepage pointing to my new site?

Re-directing old domains to New Domains
I previously had a domain with good ranking, but had to redirect this to a new domain for branding purposing and has only been around for 1 year instead 10 years like the previous. Does the weight of the entire pagerank from the old domain get transferred to the new domain? How does Google handle this? The old domain had a good keyword in the name, which help rank that keyword...does that keyword also get transferred to the new domain with Google?

Link analysis task
Hi mozzers, I am currently working on a phd, and one of the professors asked me for help. He would like to know how many Danish school websites (n=1500) links to a certain section of a government website (the relevant section has around 1600 pages). The problem is, that the government website is coded very poorly from an seo perspective with lots of strange URL variables, entailing OSE can't give valid data. So, what would be the best way to check how many of the school websites link? Throw all 1500 website through Xenu, or is there a smarter solution? Maybe the link out feature on Bing? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate. Thanks!
