Looking for SEO Help- Magento Temporary Redirects
-
We recently launched a new site (www.CanyonOS.com) on Magento Enterprise. We have run several crawl tests with Moz and keep receiving 302 redirect errors. We've used the admin console for our site to apply 301 redirects in every area that we could but have had no success. (Last audit was completed on August 14)
We are receiving 301 redirects on the following types of pages totaling 43k issues A majority of these issues are when adding and comparing products to the following types of urls.
- domain.com**/catalog/**product_compare/
- domain.com**/wishlist/**index/add/product/
- domain.com**/checkout/**cart/add/
Any suggestions from any SEO gurus?
Best,
-
Did anyone ever come up with an answer? The site is set for 301 Redirects but Moz show hundreds of 302s.. mostly Wishlist and compare related (Magento version 1.9.2)

Hey Bryce - Just wanted to check again and make sure these errors were fixed?

Hey Bryce,
Did Topster's answer fix this for you? Just want to make sure you got this resolved.

First and foremost, I appreciate your prompt response and help.
I am unable to locate the URL Rewrite Management. Which admin console were you in? The only available SEO options in our admin console related to permanent redirects under Catalog are following options
Catalog > Search Engine Optimizations > Create Permanent Redirect for URLS if URL Key is Changed (setting is Yes).
-
I've had a quick look at the module admin demo if you go to catalog > URL Rewrite Management > search for a page thats showing as a 302 > click edit > ensure the redirect field is set to 'Permanent (301)' that should do it. Let me know if you can see this open under catalogue.
Ps if you've already done this i'd submit a ticket to developer or look for a new module

We are currently using MageWorx SEO Ultimate Magento Exentsion. We have applied all 301 permanent redirects in both the extension and the main admin console settings.
Could the issue be due to improper indexing? Feel free to email me directly at bpatrick@canyonos.com. Once we determine a resolution i would be more than glad to repost with the solution we find.
Thank you,

I need more info, what is handling the redirects within the admin console? Also if whatever you're using is creating 302's instead of 301's see if it can be changed from within the module or try look for an alternative module that does it out of the box (simplest method). The only other way I know to fix this is the hard way which is going into the htaccess document of the server manually and putting the URL's either one by one or using a wildcard redirect (if URL structure is similar i.e. OLD: domain.com/test/bob1.html | NEW: domain.com/new/bob1.html.
Firstly get a full list of 302 redirected URL's and form an excel spreadsheet, either do the redirects myself quickly or pay a cheap freelancer. Cost to website if you don't find a fix will be detrimental to rankings. The longer its left the harder it'll be to get link juice back.

How good or bad is this for SEO?
I will try to make this as clear as possible. We represent the yellow pages - www.visalietuva.lt

For every single company that is listed we have Creditworthiness - that helps to find information about their payment history and their business status. It's pretty useful. An example could be found here: http://www.visalietuva.lt/en/company/dizrega-uab/creditworthiness Some companies that are proud of their result started putting Iframe on their pages:
http://dizrega.lt/lt/kontaktai/firmos-rodikliai We noticed this on Google Webmasters, when new links started to appear.
So we are not sure if this is good for SEO? Of course this is good for our Google Analytics:))
If this is good, maybe we should send offer for our clients, that we can help to put iframe like this for free, for people who are not able to do it themselves. Your opinions please!0 -
Urgent Site Migration Help: 301 redirect from legacy to new if legacy pages are NOT indexed but have links and domain/page authority of 50+?
Sorry for the long title, but that's the whole question. Notes: New site is on same domain but URLs will change because URL structure was horrible Old site has awful SEO. Like real bad. Canonical tags point to dev. subdomain (which is still accessible and has robots.txt, so the end result is old site IS NOT INDEXED by Google) Old site has links and domain/page authority north of 50. I suspect some shady links but there have to be good links as well My guess is that since that are likely incoming links that are legitimate, I should still attempt to use 301s to the versions of the pages on the new site (note: the content on the new site will be different, but in general it'll be about the same thing as the old page, just much improved and more relevant). So yeah, I guess that's it. Even thought the old site's pages are not indexed, if the new site is set up properly, the 301s won't pass along the 'non-indexed' status, correct? Thanks in advance for any quick answers!

Title Tag Help
Hi everyone, So, I have some general question's about Title tags. My question's are as follows: 1. If i have a title tag like this 'Commercial bathroom instillation '. Will I show up for Commercial bathroom or Commercial bathroom instillation? The reason I ask is, i'm aiming for Commercial bathroom which has more search volume, but here is where the problem comes in. If I have Commercial bathroom instillation it is a more compelling title. Ideally i'm aiming for Commercial Bathroom, so im in a bit of a conundrum, as you can see. 2. My second question is if I have 'Bath Review and Shower review' for my title tag. Will I show up for Bath Review individually, and shower review individually, or only when someone search's that exact query? I hope that makes sense thanks. Peter

Social Buttons Help SEO, 2 Questions...
Howdy Guys, I noticed a weird thing over the weekend - our main keyword has been hit pretty hard by penguin and we had dropped down to #79. On Friday I decided to change some on-page optimisation and changed the title tag and some tags. When I've ran my rank tracker this morning we have jumped up to #62... Has anyone else noticed just a simple change boosts rankings? Second Questions We took all our social buttons off the website back in January as no-body was using them but from a few recent reports I've seen having the buttons on the site help organic rankings... Is this true? Scott

SEO Strategy for Microsite
I am working on a project to build a microsite of sorts that will represent a joint program between two large organizations with established web presences and strong domains. Each of the organizations has dedicated sections on their sites speaking to the program, but the leadership has decided the joint program deserves it's own site with dedicated content. The two larger sites perform very well for SEO, and I don't necessarily want to jeopordize thir rankings by delivering content that competes directly with them. So I am doing some keyword research to find some opportunities that will alllow me to use the new site to target keywords not yet being captialized by the larger sites. My grand scheme is to have the three sites targeting the broadest array of keywords possible, thus maximizing exposure and avoiding competition. Here is the rub: the content between the three sites will be different but very similar, and there will be plenty of cross linking, especially from the existing sites to the new site, as we grow the brand of the joint program. I'm curious to here some expert opinions on what the puitfalls of the strategy are and what are some of the things I can do to avoid falling in the black hat category - I recognize that proliferating sites around a single topic and cross linking them is black hat. The organizations simply want to build a brand around a joint program and we are striggling to do that without a dedicated website.

Subdomains and SEO - Should we redirect to subfolder?
A new client has mainsite.com and a large numer of city specific sub domains i.e. albany.mainsite.com. I think that these subdomains would actually work better as subfolders i.e mainsite.com/albany rather than albany.mainsite.com. The majority of links on the subdomains link to the main site anyway i.e. mainsite.com/contactus rather than albany.mainsite.com/contactus. Having mostly main domain links on a subdomain doesnt seem like clever link architecture to me and maybe even spammy. Im not overly familiar with redirecting subdomains to subfolders. If we go the route of 301'ing subdomains to subfolders any advice/warnings?
