Google Places
-
Hi everyone,
I accidentally added a google place account for a client that had already an existing account. Could you tell me if I delete the new account if it will affect the existing one? If deleting isn't good what should I do? And what are the different risks if there are?
Thank you,
-
Duh! My mistake....thank you for pointing this out, Searchpl. I meant to type 'the new one' and somehow typed 'the old one'. Really sorry about this and I appreciate you asking the question the drew my attention to my mistake. Thanks!

Thank you everybody!!

Hi Miriam,
Why should the old one be deleted rather than the new account?
-
It should be okay to delete the old one once you've claimed it. But I'm including the 'should' because of the unpredictability of certain aspects of Google Places. I think you will be fine, though.

Deleting the new one will not hurt the first one.
-
So probably deleting the one in process of waiting the pin is safe?
-
not yet. I just sent the second one and my client will be getting the pin shortly. They aren't different, they are identical. So I guess removing the one in process (second account) would be safe?
-
Hi Taysir,
Did you actually verify this account? Are you seeing 2 Place Pages for the client at the same address, or just one? If two, are they exact matches? Are they different from one another in any way?
Can you provide a little more information, please?

Deleting the new account wont affect anything. You used a separate email and login yes? Then the other will be fine.

Image results Bing vs Google
I have a website with a number of images and I have optimized all of the images on both a file name and ALT text level, relevant to content on the page they are published on. I haven't created a separate image sitemap, but the strange thing is that Google has all of my images indexed and they can be found for the right keywords, but when I look in BING! images, there is no image indexed available at all ...

Philosophical: Does Google know when a photo isn't what your meta data says it is? And could you be downgraded for that?
Not something I've ever heard discussed before, probably still a bit too esoteric for present day, but I've always been one to be guided by where I see Google headed rather than trying to game the system as it exists now. So think about it: Most stock and public domain photos are used repeatedly throughout the internet. Google's reverse image search proves that Google can recognize when the same photo is used across dozens of sites. Many of those photos will have alt and/or title text that Google also has crawled. If not it has the content of the page on which the photo exists to consider for context. So if Google has a TON of clues about what a photo is likely to be about, and can in theory aggregate those clues about a single photo from the dozens of sites using it, how might Google treat a site that mislabels it, old school "one of these things is not like the others" style? Would a single site hosting that photo be bolstered by the additional context that the known repeated photo brings in, essentially from other sites? If 10 sites about widgets are using the same widget photo, but the 11th uses an entirely new, never before published photo, would the 11th site then be rated better for bringing something new to the table? (I think this would be almost certainly true, drives home the importance of creating your own graphics content.) Anyway, like I said, all theoretical and philosophical and probably not currently in play, especially since an image can be used in so many different contexts, but it's New Years and things are slow and my brain is running, so I'm curious what other folks might think about that as the future of image optimization.

Changing / editing street view picture of premiss without drop in Google places ranking
Ive finally got a site quite high in the relevant Google places listings, after a year or so of trying. What ive noticed is that the auto generated street view image of the business is showing a row of garages round the back of the building, rather than the building entrance. Is there a way i can update the auto generated street view images of the business without risking the google places ranking / need to submit a move of address. Has any one had any experience with doing this in the past ?

New Google Maps - Does my strategy change?
I am currently in the process of ensuring our 70 locations are accurately portrayed in Google. Does the Google Maps update impact my efforts? My efforts being widespread citations spanning the local ecosystem, G+ optimization via Google Places, and in the future checking Google Map Maker for accuracy.

Google Review requirements
I'm considering asking some of our clients to leave a Google review on places page. Currently we've focused more on LinkedIn recommendations but this has not impact on local search results. So my questions is what do our clients require to leave a Google review? Do they need a Google + profile? Do they need a Google + business page? Or would a personal gmail account suffice? Appreciate any feedback you have!

Consolidating mulitple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page
Hello All, I have trawled the internet, but can seem to find the answer to this question: "How will Google integrate multiple Google+ Local pages with one Google+ Page?" A bit of background to this. I work for a company that started online, but has since moved into retail stores. We currently have 14 stores around the UK. Now each of these stores has a Google+ Local page which were automatically converted over from the old style Google Places pages. I have read that these pages should be integrated with our regular Google+ account. All of the examples I have read about seem to relate to offline businesses that have moved into online, rather than online business that have moved into physical retails stores. And these examples are just one store, one Googe+ Local listing & one Google+ business page. That seems simple enough... but what about multiple locations?! Do I just need to sit on my hands and see what happens? Or are there things I can be doing now? Cheers for any help! Rich
