What happens if my site was down for 10 hours?
-
Hello,
We have a fairly large site. Due to an attack it was taken down for about 10 hours.
We have finally been able to resolve the security issues, restore the code and put everything back online.
Now, we are a little bit worried about what GoogleBot will think of us. We have been working hard during the past months to get a better SEO. Should we be worried?

I had some of my sites down for 24 hours, and no problem at all.
But if your site is down more times, then this can be a problem.
Good luck!

Hi Julien,
I think Philipp B is right with the fact that 10 hours shouldn't pose a problem. I too have experienced much longer down time and this hasn't caused me any problems in relation to site ranking on Google. I would however check GWT as already suggested - that way you can see what pages weren't available during your down time and check the impact.

10 hours shouldn't pose a problem - i've had no worries even with longer downtime. googlebot won't even have tried to access most of your pages in that time, so i'm sure only a fraction of pages was unaccessible for the bot during the downtime (namely those it had on crawl schedule then).
to be sure, you can always check the crawl stats on GWT and see if there is any significant change.

Redirect chains after a site migration
Hi A clients site was originally canonicalised to the www. from the non www versions Now its migrating to an international config of www.domain.com/uk and www.domain.com/us with the existing pages/urls (such as www.domain.com/pageA) 301'd to the new www.domain.com/uk/pageA for example Will this will create a 301 redirect chain due to the existence of the original canonicalised urls or is the way that works 'catch all' so to speak, and automatically update the canonical 301 redirects of the non www old architexcture url's to the new international architecture URL's ? I presume so but just want to check ? cheers dan

Will Links to one Sub-Domain on a Site hurt a different Sub-Domain on the same site by affecting the Quality of the Root Domain?
Hi, I work for a SaaS company which uses two different subdomains on our site. A public for our main site (which we want to rank in SERPs for), and a secure subdomain, which is the portal for our customers to access our services (which we don't want to rank for) . Recently I realized that by using our product, our customers are creating large amounts of low quality links to our secure subdomain and I'm concerned that this might affect our public subdomain by bringing down the overall Authority of our root domain. Is this a legitimate concern? Has anyone ever worked through a similar situation? any help is appreciated!

Question about an older more obsolete site
I have a website that I don't use much anymore but it ranks on the first page for one of my main keywords. I am using another few websites in different niches right now that are doing better and are more functional. It may cost around 1,300 or so to get the website that I don't use anymore, to look and function in the new ways of the internet. Would you suggest that I: Do a site redesign (which is more difficult because to make the site do what I want it needs to be out of a wordpress theme) or 301 redirect the site to another one of my sites? Would it make sense to do a 301? The domain is 5 years old but doesn't bring in any leads anymore because it would take a redesign for that to happen. How can I still benefit from the SEO that I have done on that site? Thanks and sorry if this message is hard to follow. If I need to clear anything up please let me know.

We need to conduct a SEO analysis for a website that is on a private, password protected development site -- is there anyway for SEOMoz tools to access and analyze a PW protected site? Thank you, Sara Merten
