301 help, whats the best way
-
Hi all
right now i have 301 redirects setup in my htaccess file
i recently redesigned our site so i have been redirecting all the old urls to the new ones.
I saw a post about having all your urls the same format, so i updated my htaccess file to redirect all urls from http://www.mysite.com/food to http://www.mysite.com/food/ (added a forward slash).
Now on my latest seo crawl i see all my site urls, redirecting to the forward slash url.
am i doing this right,
thanks

Sounds like you're doing it right!
You want your URLs to end in a trailing slash, and for the URLs that don't, you want a training slash added. If that's what's showing up in your reports and in your spot checks, you're doing great!
You may want to write a code that does this automatically -- e.g. that adds a trailing slash to any URL that doesn't have one, if that url doesn't inclue a filetype (to exclude bad things like /image.png becoming /image.png/)
Note: If you're on Wordpress, you might try a plugin like http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smart-404/ to catch any bad urls that might rear their heads later -- it or something like it (if you're not on WordPress) would also likely take care of the redirection issue you're having altogether.

Hi Will,
Looks like you've got it right.
Without the 301 redirect you'd have two versions of the same page (one with the trailing slash, and one without), so 301 redirecting all the URLs to the version with the trailing slash is definitely the best way to go.
If your crawl report shows the redirects are active you should be good to go.

Website blog is hacked. Whats the best practice to remove bad urls
Hello So our site was hacked which created a few thousand spam URLs on our domain. We fixed the issue and changed all the spam urls now return 404. Google index shows a couple of thousand bad URLs. My question is- What's the fastest way to remove the URLs from google index. I created a site map with sof the bad urls and submitted to Google. I am hoping google will index them as they are in the sitemap and remove from the index, as they return 404. Any tools to get a full list of google index? ( search console downloads are limited to 1000 urls). A Moz site crawl gives larger list which includes URLs not in Google index too. Looking for a tool that can download results from a site: search. Any way to remove the URLs from the index in bulk? Removing them one by one will take forever. Any help or insight would be very appreciated.

Removing Multiple 301 Redirects
During my last redesign (and migration to Drupal) some of the updated SEO friendly url's on the new site were misspelled. Rather than updating the 301 redirects to point to the correct page the developer just added an additional 301 redirect. So it was redirected like this website.com/oldpage (301 to) website.com/new-paige (301 to) website.com/new-page Instead of website.com/oldpage (301 to) website.com/new-page I'll be finishing another redesign and updating to https soon, should I remove the redirect to the misspelled domain and just have one 301 from the original page? These multiple redirects have been up for over a year. Thanks for any specific advice!

What is the best practice to seperate different locations and languages in an URL? At the moment the URL is www.abc.com/ch/de. Is there a better way to structure the URL from an SEO perspective?
I am looking for a solution for using a new URL structure without using www.abc.com**/ch/de** in the URL to deliver the right languages in specific countries where more than one language are spoken commonly. I am looking forward to your ideas!

301 redirect from Blogger
Hello, I have a client with a Wordpress network of blogs, each blog is owned by a different blogger. Many of them were migrated time ago from Blogger. I have seen that the way used to redirect them is a meta refresh, so no authority is being passed. I cannot find any reliable way of making a 301 from Blogger, There are some plugins, but I'm afraid of using them. Any of you have experience with this situation please? I have even thought about placing a global rel canonical before the meta refresh, but I think that here the problem is the meta refresh itself.... Thank you in advance

301 redirectmatch
I think I'm starting to loss my mind. I have worked with regex before with very little problems how with my redirects nothing appears to be working. A little guidance is needed! The Low down I have a site with Joomla CMS backend. The site is undergoing and SEO overhaul I was simple hoping to use a 301 redirect o these old pages that are now a causing 404's The addresses /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53_blank /shop/product.php?id_product=11 I have tried the following redirects but no avail RedirectMatch 301 ^/shop/product.php?id_product=11$ http://www.nomitang.com/index.php/en/vm_getaway_w this does not work at all if I remove the ?.....ending then I can simply redirect the product page but this is not what we need. Why does RedirectMatch not register anything after the "?"? I also tried this RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53_blank [NC]

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.nomitang.com/ [R=301,L] But this also didn't work. Please could someone tell me how to redirect these url's and how to deal with the extrension Thanks Stefan0 -
