Google’s algorithm on file size. Use IFrame or not?
-
With page size being a big factor in Google’s algorithm what’s the best way to implement a flash file without jeopardizing rankings? What’s your thoughts on embedding the video in an IFrame?
-
What we're trying to do specifically is use a flash video as a product image, so the size increase will be significant. We're talking somewhere around 1.5 - 2mb on a page that is about 400kb before the video. So the increase is significant. This is why the concern, and why we were thinking perhaps having the flash video inside an iframe might overcome the speed issues.
Google often talks about doing the best user experience and the SEO will follow, but the two seem conflicting, as we're trying to provide a better experience with the video, but the increase in page size, and therefore speed, will be significant. The rest of the page will load, including a fallback static image, so we're really trying to understand how to mitigate the page load speed impact of the video.

Any additional feedback is appreciated

I agree with Adam that site speed although announced as a factor probably isn't a large one.
Also agree that embedding the flash normally is better than an iframe.
If worried about the size factor then should look to minimise the file size or look to see if other more search engine friendly solutions e.g jQuery may be possible (obviously this depends on what the flash content is)

I can't give you a definitive answer, but I can offer some input regarding page speed.
As far as I can tell (and see) page speed is NOT a big factor in Google's algorithm, but a minor one. Google and Matt Cutts have both stressed that it is less important than other factors, and that "fewer than 1% of search queries will change as a result of incorporating site speed into our ranking".
I'm not saying you shouldn't pay attention to site speed, but don't stress about it, as it's not one of the biggest factors.
I would shy away from using an iframe for a couple reasons, including a) Google is starting to read flash and b) using a iframe could look a little suspicious.
Hope this helps!

Google+ Local Assistance (Listings being reviewed)
Hey guys, My client is having issues with his Google+ pages and I'm wondering if someone can shine some light on the issue for me... Basically the client has two businesses, both using the same residential address. The page was ranking well until a week ago, when it disappeared from search results and was listed in the dashboard as "Under Review." I've heard horror stories about this -- examples of Google taking months to review pages and make a decision, and I'm wondering if if might be better to just delete the under review pages and start over (hiding the address on the new listing to comply). How do I correctly use YouTube?
Hello! I have a someone that does online guitar lessons - their site is www.frethub.com. They use YouTube videos to promote the lessons on their site like this one - http://youtu.be/C1dOYys0H14, they're not the complete lesson but an intro to entice them on. The videos are of a really high quality and have had a few hundred hits in a couple of months - when I did a search on YouTube for "ledato guitar lesson" as an example they were nowhere to be seen despite the quality of the video and using tags etc. Anyway long intro! What I was wondering is are the rankings on YouTube based predominantly on number of hits or is there a way to use the tags better (presently they put in keywords and what comes up in the autosuggest), does how recently they were uploaded, author authority etc have anything to do with it? I appreciate it's a massive subject so any help is much appreciated 🙂 Thanks alot!

[local seo] How to compete against e.g. yellowpages on Google Rank 1 - 4?
Hi Folks, How to compete against the big SEO-powered pages like Yellowpages in the SERPs? I mean, they have thousands of Rd -> Rd Links as well as super Page and Domain Authority. How has a let's say Dentist or Electrician a decent chance to compete against those? Does Google give credit to them because of the Content they have on their page? These yellowpages totally take the fun out of it for my clients. Answeres would really much appreciated. Thank you. For me it feels like Don Quijote.

What impact will Google removing 3rd party citations from listings have on citations being ranking factors?
So now that Google are going to remove 3rd party citations from listings, will they still carry the same weight for local rankings or will this be reduced? If so, how much and when?
