My friend seems to have been hit my Negative SEO
-
A friend of mine has asked me to help him out as he seems to have been hit by Negative SEO. His ranks have recently dropped and that seems to coincide with the following email he got.
I have changed the web address
Small gif for you and you f%$£@£ seo spamers
http://www.website.com/website
keyword : website
now your site go down in google
you f$%$£@g bastard !!!
urls list ofer 5000
They have then listed him in 5000 blog comments which has seemed to cause his ranks to drop off the radar.
I am going to help him out free of charge as he is a good mate, I am seeing conflicting stories on here some saying Negative SEO is a myth, others saying its very real.
Anybody got any tips on how to resolve this quickly?
Thanks
James

Thanks Kevin useful link I hope this tool does come out and we don't have to wait months. Surely would save google a bit of admin having people asking for reevaluation of their site.
-
He can file a reconsideration request and as mentioned, include the email that was sent to him. However, if he files a reconsideration request Google is likely going to look at all of his links. So, if he has unnatural links of his own they're going to need to be cleaned up.

about Google's Disavow-This-Link tool

Yeah we are going to put something to Google for them to look at. I heard of a tool coming out from Google that allows you to tell Google which links to ignore if you get this kind of problem. Sounds perfect for this kind of situation I will it was out now.

I would immediately report that to google and send the complete headers of the email.

We're looking at providing SEO for a website that has the majority of its incoming links from websites created solely to provide links. Few have bad spam rankings. How worried should I be about those links?
The majority of incoming links to a prospect's website are from website pages apparently created solely to provide links to the website. Few have high spam scores. The sites linking to the main site have versions of blogs with linked text. They seem to be providing positive SEO value now, but I'm concerned they might get noticed and hurt the main site in the future.

Ideas needed for onsite SEO
Hi, What sort of activity 'onsite' should I be doing to increase SEO? I was thinking of a FAQ's section with 1 anchor text link in the body of the answer going back to my target page. Will the increase in content along with the anchor text inside of it help increase SERP's? I was also thinking maybe use the keyword tool to find search queries which revolve around questions with high search so for example 'How to change a tyre' answering this question in my FAQ's section and running PPC to it, then wrapping lots of sharing tools around it in the hope it generates some social signals. Anyone got any hidden onsite gems they think might help? Cheers

What's your favourite SEO directory?
We're having a bit of a debate in the office today about SEO directories. We all seem to have our favourites here - Octopedia, AbiLogic and JoeAnt to name a few that have been mentioned. Just wondering what everyone else's favourite directories for SEO are? Which pass the best link juice? Which offer the best value for money? Would love to know everyone's thoughts...

Do VigLink links get indexed, and then pass SEO juice to the merchant?
You can find the service at viglink.com, they do dynamic linking to anchor text for participating publishers on a cost-per-click basis. Less interested here in the conversion quality and more interested in the broad SEO value. Any ideas?
