Determine the best URL structure
-
Hi guys,
I'm working my way through a URL restructure at the moment and I've several ideas about the best way to do it.
However, it would be good to get some views on this.
At the moment I'm working on a property website - http://bit.ly/N7eew7
As you can quickly see, the URL structure of the site needs a lot of work.
Similar websites -
One of the sites has http://www.domain.ie/property-to-let/location/
And the other has http://www.domain.ie/rentals/location/property-to-let/
I could do with some guidance about the best steps to take with this.
I've a few ideas myself but this is a massive project.
Cheers,
Mark

I would recommend using a similar URL structure as http://www.domain.ie/rentals/location/property-to-let/
When on the site you are working on you can see that there are three main solutions - sales, lettings and sharing. I would have www.yourdomain.ie/sales and then follow this with location and then property. This would be a good organised architecture.
An example URL would be:
http://www.yourdomain.ie/lettings/dublin-city/property-to-let/?min-price=500&max-price=700
You would also need to use rel="canonical" in order to prevent duplicate content issues.

Why Google crawl parameter URLs?
Hi SEO Masters, Google is indexing this parameter URLs - 1- xyz.com/f1/f2/page?jewelry_styles=6165-4188-4184-4192-4180-6109-4191-6110&mode=li_23&p=2&filterable_stone_shapes=4114 2- xyz.com/f1/f2/page?jewelry_styles=6165-4188-4184-4192-4180-4169-4195&mode=li_23&p=2&filterable_stone_shapes=4115&filterable_metal_types=4163 I have handled by Google parameter like this - jewelry_styles= Narrows Let Googlebot decide mode= None Representative URL p= Paginates Let Googlebot decide filterable_stone_shapes= Narrows Let Googlebot decide filterable_metal_types= Narrows Let Googlebot decide and Canonical for both pages - xyz.com/f1/f2/page?p=2 So can you suggest me why Google indexed all related pages with this - xyz.com/f1/f2/page?p=2 But I have no issue with first page - xyz.com/f1/f2/page (with any parameter). Cononical of first page is working perfectly. Thanks

Determining Penalization
Hello, I have a site that initially ranked in the first 30 google results for targeted keywords. However, after I contracted out further SEO work to a consultant, my site is nowhere to be found for any keywords. I'm afraid that they have done something to get me penalized, but I'm not sure how I would tell if 1) I have in fact been penalized and 2) what the issue(s) are so I can fix them. Thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated. -Alex

Determining the Cause of a Penalty
I received a link removal request from a site who said that they were penalized. I confirmed that they were #1 for the competitive keyword phrase that is also their domain name and now they are #10. Here are some things I noticed about the site: Over 2,500 linking domains. Dozens of high quality linking domains like Huffington Post and Mashable. Some off topic guest post links, e.g. on a SEO site. Guest post anchor text was usually their site name which is an exact match domain. Lots of top 100 resource pages that received good organic links. Infographics with links using their domain name as the anchor text. Relatively few spammy links according to Open Site Explorer. Overall their site's links were engineered but using tactics that most would consider "white hat." I don't think they violated any Google Webmaster Guidelines. Why were they penalized? What do you think?

Can URL re writes fix the problem of critical content too deep in a sites structure?
Good morning from Wetherby UK 🙂 Ok imagine this scenario. You ask the developers to design a site where "offices to let" is on level two of a sites hierachy and so the URL would look like this: http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let. But Yikes when it goes live it ends up like this: http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk...s/residential/office-to-let Is a fix to this a URL re - write? Or is the only fix relocating the office to let content further up the site structure? Any insights welcome 🙂
