Page architecture
-
We have some good content on our site, particularly relating to UK employment law.
One section on unfair dismissal is split into 9 pages - there is a fair amount of legal detail.
The question is whether we should combine it all into one "mother of all unfair dismissal" page just to satisfy the Google monster or keep in as it is.
Some of the individual pages rank on page 1 already.
If we change the architecture are 301 redirects the best way to handle the changing urls?
The other more important issue is whether it is easier to read it all on one page or split it.
Keeping G happy may not actually keep our users happy. As the content is quite dense we want to ensure we don't overload people.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Sebastian
Thanks for the response.
We were also concerned about cannibalisation as some of the links/page titles are:
qualifying for unfair dismissal, unfair dismissal exceptions, unfair dismissal & retirement, unfair dismissal test.

Google has come on a long way from the days where pagination was a major issue. If the pages are currently ranking, then I'd be adverse to 301'ing them all to one page.
Looking at your existing site structure, I think from a user perspective your current system is very user friendly and 1 super page wouldn't really add to the user experience.
Your best bet would be to introduce the rel=next / prev tags on pages that are sequential - more info is available here -> http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/video-about-pagination-with-relnext-and.html

On-page SEO
This is a question for the organic SEO experts, once you added the main keyword that you want to rank for in the homepage title, meta title plus meta description, perhaps once or twice in the text on the homepage. How often do you then write it in the content marketing, say blog posts, we want to rank higher on Google for "SEO agencies Cardiff" however if you mention this in the blog posts too much say once a week, this could lead to over optimisation issues?

Renamed a page and created a 301, page lost its rankings.
We changed a page name to fall under the root of our site from domain.com/page1/page301d/ to domain.com/page301d/ and after 2 weeks it still is not back to its #3 position. Now it is on the bottom of page 3. I cant figure out what im doing wrong here. The original .com/page1/ that this page fell under was removed totally and redirected to antoher page that was more relevant. I went ahead and re-enabled this page and its contnent, because the page was linking out to the page we 301d. This page we re-enabled had about 150 links poitning to it and therefore i was thinking that maybe the link juice from this page (or relevancy) via an internal link was helping it rank. This was updated about 6 days ago and the internal link is back Any other ideas why this might not be working. Ive checked all the 301s, content has not changed on the page. We have updated the strcuture for many pages. Instead of having the pages in question fall under anotehr page, they all fall under the root and its sub content is now only 2 levels deep , instead of being 3. hope that makese sense.

Virtual Hub Page Impact
I currently have a website structure that has multiple subfolders. One of the primary sub-folders has hundreds of pages within (e.g. www.mydomain.com/subfolder1/page) The pages are all accessible through other subfolders, as contextually appropriate, but there is no existing hub page for the specific pages. In other words, while www.mydomain.com/subfolder1/page1....n are all valid URLs, www.mydomain.com/subfolder1/ is a 404. My question is given that the pages within the subfolder are accessible through multiple other subfolders, how much of an issue is it that the specific subfolder these pages are within 404s. Does this negatively impact in any way?

Unique Pages with Thin Content vs. One Page with Lots of Content
Is there anyone who can give me a definitive answer on which of the following situations is preferable from an SEO standpoint for the services section of a website? 1. Many unique and targeted service pages with the primary keyword in the URL, Title tag and H1 - but with the tradeoff of having thin content on the page (i.e. 100 words of content or less). 2. One large service page listing all services in the content. Primary keyword for URL, title tag and H1 would be something like "(company name) services" and each service would be in the H2 title. In this case, there is lots of content on the page. Yes, the ideal situation would be to beef up content for each unique pages, but we have found that this isn't always an option based on the amount of time a client has dedicated to a project.

Home Page Keywords not Ranking and Assigned to Inside Pages
Hi, thank you for taking the time to read this. We have a few websites with the same problem. I will use http://www.prepared-meals.com as an example: The home page was ranking on page one for keyword "Prepared Meals". The site is about 6 months old. We use the Moz page optimizer on all pages of our websites to score an A rating. Recently we found the home page is no longer showing up in search results and the keyword "prepared meals" now points to an inside page that is not relevant: http://www.prepared-meals.com/Senior-Meals/Moms-Meals-Reviews.html this page shows up for Prepared Meals around page 15 in Google results. We have read keywords in the URL might be the issue, even though the page optimizer in MOZ says to do that. We are wondering if this is the issue or there is some other problem we are not aware of. Again, thank you for you for your time. -Craig

Too many on page links
Hello, I have a page that isn't ranking very well. http://nicontrols.com/uk/drives-motors/variable-speed-drives According to the MOZ research tools I have too many on page links. I believe most of these are a result of the advanced filtration options on the left hand side of the page. I don't want to remove the filters as they are extremely useful for customers but I am also worried about the number of links Anyone get any ideas about the number of links? Should I care?

Which Meta Tags would you recommend having on the pages?
Hello, There are so many different meta tags which you can implement to the header of your website and I'm wanting to get people's opinions on which you feel are worth putting in and which are completely pointless? For example: Author Copyright Language Content-Type Content-Language Distribution Abstract Keywords Description Classification Canonical Expires Revisit-after Rating I look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions.
