External video content in iframe
-
Hi,
On our site we have a lot of video content. The player is hosted by a third party so we are using an iframe to include the content on our site.
The problem is that the content it self (on the third party domain) is shown in the google result.
My question is: Can we ask the third party to disallow the content from indexing in their robots.txt or will that also affect our own use of the video content? For example we use video-sitemaps to include the videos in Google video search (the sitemap links to the videos on our own domain, but we are still using iframes on the pages to collect the content from the third party domain that will then be blocked by robots.txt).
I hope you understand what I mean... Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

Hey,
Yes - this is a classic problem. It should be relatively easy to fix in the hosting platform settings.
What third party provider are you using?

Have you thought about actually hosting the video yourself? I have a few clients have started doing this now for a variety of reasons (control being one of them).
I'm not too sure I would be asking them to Robots the video out, but it does sound like you could do with more control over this and adding in some branding.
Could the video be re-worked so it has an introduction / splash screen? Could you add it to YouTube and create a channel there along with links back?
It sounds to me like you just need to take a look at what other possibilities exist in terms of directing people over to your site.

Ah, and regarding your last note: They will definitly fix the robots.txt if we ask them, I'm just not sure if it's a good idea or if it will mess up on our end as well

Hi Andy,
Yes, the video content is owned by us and there are two reasons why I want to remove the serp listing for the third party:
1. Since their listing is for their domain (even though it's a specific subdomain dedicated for us), it's not obvious for the user that the video belongs to us (and we are a very well known brand here in Sweden)
2. When the user clicks in the video listing for the third party, they land directly in the video player. There are no menues, logotypes or anything that actually tells the user that this is our content. And there is no possability for the user to click on a link to get to our website and make a purchase. And yes, sometimes the serp shows our domain and sometimes the third party domain and I don't actually know how to control this.

Just so I understand, are you wanting to ask for the third party to block the video so only your site appears when the video shows up in the search results?
- Does the video currently show up in the SERPs from your site?
- Is the video content in question owned by you?
At the end of the day, you can ask anyone anything you wish - you just don't know what the answers will be.
Andy

Is this duplicate content that I should be worried about?
Our product descriptions appear in two places and on one page they appear twice. The best way to illustrate that would be to link you to a search results page that features one product. My duplicate content concern refers to the following, When the customer clicks the product a pop-up is displayed that features the product description (first showing of content) When the customer clicks the 'VIEW PRODUCT' button the product description is shown below the buy buytton (second showing of content), this is to do with the template of the page and is why it is also shown in the pop-up. This product description is then also repeated further down in the tabs (third showing of content). My thoughts are that point 1 doesn't matter as the content isn't being shown from a dedicated URL and it relies on javascript. With regards to point 2, is the fact the same paragraph appears on the page twice a massive issue and a duplicate content problem? Thanks

Duplicate Content - Different URLs and Content on each
Seeing a lot of duplicate content instances of seemingly unrelated pages. For instance, http://www.rushimprint.com/custom-bluetooth-speakers.html?from=topnav3 is being tracked as a duplicate of http://www.rushimprint.com/custom-planners-diaries.html?resultsperpg=viewall. Does anyone else see this issue? Is there a solution anyone is aware of?

Help regarding updated content
Hi, Some time back we created tutorials on a test tool Quality Center (http://www.guru99.com/quality-center-tutorials.html) which now needs upgrading.
Technical SEO | | Riya8520
Currently the tool has been renamed to HP ALM.
Our dilemma is whether we should create new pages for the new tutorials or update the existing tutorials itself ? To add to our pain, most of the end users still refer the new ALM with its old name Quality Center. Also we here hit by penguin 2.1 and since then have been very precautions from SEO standpoint.
Please help

Advice on Duplicate Page Content
We have many pages on our website and they all have the same template (we use a CMS) and at the code level, they are 90% the same. But the page content, title, meta description, and image used are different for all of them. For example - http://www.jumpstart.com/common/find-easter-eggs

How do I deal with Duplicate content?
Hi, I'm trying SEOMOZ and its saying that i've got loads of duplicate content. We provide phone numbers for cities all over the world, so have pages like this... https://www.keshercommunications.com/Romaniavoipnumbers.html https://www.keshercommunications.com/Icelandvoipnumbers.html etc etc. One for every country. The question is, how do I create pages for each one without it showing up as duplicate content? Each page is generated by the server, but Its impossible to write unique text for each one. Also, the competition seem to have done the same but google is listing all their pages when you search for 'DID Numbers. Look for DIDWW or MyDivert.

Should I no follow all external links?
I have worked with a few different SEO firms lately and a lot of them have recommended on the sites I was working on to "no-follow" all external links on the site. On one hand this traps all the link equity/Pagerank. On the other I would think this practice is frowned upon by Google. What are some opinions on this?

Lots of duplicate content warnings
I have a site that says that I have 2,500 warnings. It is a real estate website and of course we use feeds. it says I have a lot of duplicate content. One thing is a page called "Request an appointment" and that is a url for each listing. Since there are 800 listings on my site. How could I solve this problem so that this doesn't show up as duplicate content since I use the same "Request an Appointment" verbeage on each of those? I guess my developer who used php to do it, created a dedicated url to each. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
