Combining 2 Websites
-
Any assistance/feedback is greatly appreciated.
The scenario:
We currently own two website, and we'd like to combine them and eliminate some expenses. Although the content is very similar in nature, it is not exact.
www.KF.com that is managed by a third-party provider & www.KFA.com that is managed by the manufacturer of the product we sell. (*sites url's are not accurate)
We have ended the contract of KF.com, however, this site has the best SERP/SEO.
We assume we'll take a hit, no matter what we do - however when it comes to SEO, but what is the right move to make?Still very much a rookie when it comes to this stuff. I do have the ability to SEO the KFA.com webiste. Hoping this makes sense - and apologize for the bad url's just not sure I can actually post the true addresses.
Thanks in advance.

Brad - It's been sometime, still haven't solved the issue, as the 3rd Party is basically refusing to create the 301 Redirects. With that being said - is there anything else you can think of that might help.

Hi Juile,
301s are the only way to protect your back-link profile built towards your brand. I did it for a huge project I directed with Leads dot com. We are still looking to 301 redirect one other website that is also going away. Submit A Website dot com has years of authority. Although this is a very large site example; it should serve as a rule for any other viewers of this thread.
Also to expand on the duplicate content issue. If you wanted to take an extra precaution, just make sure there are no duplicate pages within your website. You can use "Screaming Frog" (desktop software, free to use) to look at duplicate content within your website. Aside from this, you should be in great shape.
I also see having a website managed by a 3rd party; very frustrating. However, tell them to setup a .htaccess file and setup your mod-rewrite (for whatever server your site is running on) and give them a list of pages throughout your website that you want redirected.
You can use gsite crawler to crawl your website and then from there you can dump the data into excel so you can provide neat data to your 3rd party developer and they should be able to help.
If you need additional help, just message me.

Chad- because both sites are technically managed by a 3rd party, I don't have access to change theses. Based on your response however, I did some research on 301 redirects and that def. seems the correct way to go, so thank you. If you have any other thoughts - they would be greatly appreciated.

Just 301 redirect whichever website has the most authority. You can manually make all the pages that the site with the most authority has and create a .htaccess file and then setup 301 redirects to the new and permanent location (or to the new website). Doing this will help you save time that you put into your "baby" and ensure the new baby get's that authority. As far as duplicate content, make sure you remove the pages from Google's index. To do that you'll need a Google Webmaster Tools account.

Blog on Custom Website - WordPress Alternatives
Howdy folks. I'm trying to find any good alternative for adding CMS blog to custom website. Most people, us included, are using WP, but, as we know, it's really painful to work with, easily hackable etc etc. So, I wonder if anyone knows of a blog platform, which can be installed on our own websites for blogging, but without drawbacks of WordPress. Any nudge in correct direction will be appreciated. Thanks!

New websites
Hi Moz community, My company updated and used a new developer to build and re-design their charity websites: www.runforcharity.com, www.cycleforcharity.com and www.sportforcharity.com. This sites were "re-launched" at the beggining of December 2015 and I have now been able to get a good 6 weeks worth of data. I've been religiously using Moz.com for a couple of years and I use it simply for SEO purposes. Our websites are built upon organic traffic being driven to them and I have noticed that the PA on the new sites has taken a hammering. They all appear to have a PA of 1 and I'm at a loss why? It appears that no page has h1 text? Would this be an issue with the developer or something the content team is doing wrong? Any help of advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks Ryan

60 countries, 1 website. How to develop this?
I've been asked to rank the website of an international association under the same keywords but in multiple languages (they rank very highly for English speaking countries), however they only have the one website with 1 .com domain. Question: Is the better approach to translate the site in multiple languages and then allow people to select the language they desire? OR Buy ccTLD and run the site multiple times in different languages as separate entities?

We're currently not using schemas on our website. How important is it? And are websites across the globe using it?
Schemas looks like an important thing when it comes to structuring your website and ensuring the crawl bots get all the details. I've been reading a lot of articles around the web and most of them are saying that schemas are important but very few websites are using it. Why so? Are the schemas on schema.org there to stay or am I wasting my time?

2 links from the same external page question
Hi, I have always thought if 2 links on a single page, both going to the same url wouldnt pass PR from both. I watched a Matt Cutts vid and he was saying in the original algo it was built in that both links would pass PR. So for example if I guest posted say 1000 words and this article had 2 links pointing to the same url would they both work? Cheers

If other websites implement our RSS feed sidewide on there website, can that hurt our own website?
Think about the switching anchors from the backlinks and the 100s of sidewide inlinks... I gues Google will understand that it's just a RSS feed right?
