Domain Forwarding / Multiple Domain Names / or Rebuild Blogs on them
-
I am considering forwarding 3 very aged and valuable domain names to my main site. There were once over 100 blog posts on each blog and each one has a page authority of 45 and domain authority of 37.
My question is should i put up three blogs on the domains and link them to my site or should i just forward the domains to my main site? Which will provide me with more value.
I have the capability to have some one blog on them every day. However, i do not have access to any of the old blog posts. I guess i could scrape it of archive.org. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think there are 2 ways to do it.
(Quick version) redirect all pages from your old domains to the new domain, however if you have links with specific keywords pointing to old posts, all the weight will be transfered to your new home page and most likely the content will be far different from the original post, and you might loose some positions you used to have on some posts.
(Long version) scrape all the old articles, put them on your new server, then redirect each article independently from your old site to the new site.
ie: redirect from www.myoldsite.com/article123 to www.mynewsite.com/article445
This way you keep all valuable links pointing to these post, but also the context of each link will match the content of the page like nothing happened (if you have such link of course).
I am no expert in blogs, but I did the long version with our online store for each products and it worked like a charm. I kept the contextual links, pagerank and position for each one of them.

Hi! As above, I wrote this article on my medium blog but am now launching my site, UnderstandingJiuJitsu.com. I have the post saved as a draft because I don't want to get pinged by google. a) how can I get a canonical tag on medium without importing and b) any issue with claiming the UJJ.com post is original when medium was posted first? Thanks and health, Elliott

Hello Moz Community, My developer has added this to my robots.txt file: Disallow: /404/ Is this considered good practice in the world of SEO? Would you do it with your clients? I feel he has great development knowledge but isn't too well versed in SEO. Thank you in advanced, Nico.

Home link tags slash or full domain name
Recently I was asked the question by a client who has some SEO knowledge..... We built their site and during testing we simply set the home page links to be: home rather than: home This was mainly to help while in test and dev as they were on different servers to the live site and if we had put the full domain in it kept taking us from dev/test to live. Is it bad to have just a slash for SEO purposes or is it REALLY that important on home links to have the full domain as a slash takes you back to the full domain? Thanks

Domain redirect
Recently we launched a site under a new domain, the site is doing well under the URL. Client calls me today and would like to have another domain he owns point to the new site. The domain he has has no history and no content. He is under the impression that people are looking for him by typing in www.domainxyz.com. I attempted to explain otherwise to him, but I lost. Question, what are the drawbacks of taking this domin and doing a perm redirect via . Httpaccess file?

301 Redirect Domain or 301 Redirect Domain + Interior Pages
Hello - My company acquired another company in our industry and our IT team immediately set up the acquired companies domain name as a an alias to our site. This created a duplicate version of our website under another domain name and Google started ranking interior pages from the aliased acquired site for several top keywords that were previously held by our real site. Should we 301 redirect just the top level domain name of the acquired site to the real site or 301 redirect the top level domain name and the interior pages on the acquired site to help ensure that our real domain will take back the rankings it once had? Thanks!

Parked Domain blog directory not redirecting
My newly parked domain name, (our main website had to switch primary domains) is not redirecting properly and is causing our blog to be duplicate content. My 301 redirects work for everything else, but our parked domain /blog directory is not redirecting. I can type in both urls and then the blog appears on both sites. Not good. If I delete my blog .htaccess file, then it redirects fine. However, then our blog links are broken. So it has to do something with our .htaccess files. I do have a .htaccess file for our website, saying redirect everything to correct location, so i think this is interfering, but I cannot pinpoint it. this is the .htaccess file for the blog.
