Domain authority through blogs
-
So, I was looking at my competiton, and noticed that they have 4 times the amount of link that my page has. I noticed that they made a blog on almost every free blog hosting available (like webs.com, jimdo.com, .weebly.com...)
And every blog has a high domain authority (and poor content) with links to their page.
Is this helping with their domain authority? Should i do if for my page too?
Thank, M.

As long as you continue to build links the correct way then you should do fine. Just ensure they are very natural links on relevant sites and aren't based on anchor text links
If you need advice on how to build decent safe links just fire me a mail or something, I'd be happy to advise.
-
Thanks Matt!
I will keep on building links my way, and hope that Google catches on to them.
Although they have been first on my top keyword fore some time now...
-
WOW. They are using some SERIOUSLY OLD techniques. They have incredibly aggressive and poor link building methods, all based on exact match anchor text links and all from horribly poor domains mostly built to serve the purpose of creating links.
You will be safe in the knowledge that their rankings shouldn't last long at all - hopefully!
-
Google, off course!
Just as i thought, this tactic would do more damage than good in the long run, but i wasn't shore, because generally their thin content blogs have prety good PA and DA...
Thank you for two quick anwsers, Matt i have shared a link via private chat.
-
Don't do this. Please.
This is very risky way of trying to help your website rank and has become even more risky since the Panda and Penguin algorithm updates. One targets thin content (like these free blog sites will have) and one targets spammy links (which these free blog sites will also have).
What they are effectively doing is creating a link network. I'd like to estimate that they will be hit by Google at some point... Especially if the link network plays a big part in their link profile.
Care to share a link to their site for me to take a look at?
-
OK.... which matters to you more?
Helping your domain authority or helping your Google rankings?
Google? Yes?
So, do you think that it will help your Google rankings by putting up spammy blogs that are loaded with spammy links on every free service that you can find? If you have not heard about Penguin and unnatural links penalty, learn about them before answering.

What Should be the URL of third party blog for my website
Hi All, What Should be the URL of third party blog for my website. Lets say if i have a website xyz.com (which provide pest control services in New York City) and I want to create third party blogs on platforms like blogspot, weebly etc so should i create the blog url as xyz.blogspot.com or i can use a keyword in the blog URL such as pestcontrolnyc.blogspot.com? Which URL would be the best as per Google's guidelines. Note: I have already have a blog within the domain as xyz.com/blog/ and i do weekly posting on this blog. But at the same time i want to create 1-2 third party blogs to get some backlinks from other sources.

How do Domain Authority and the Price of a Paid Listing Relate?
I'm just starting to do some in-house link building for the first time. Having looked at some of our competitors it seems that they have paid for links on some B2B sites and I was wondering how the Domain authority and the price charged were related. The follow up question is then how do you estimate the ROI of a link? So for example looking at a site with a DA of 30 and a page authority of 17 how much should one pay for the link? How do you decide how much you should pay for a link - and whether it is value for money? btw I'm not interested in buying links I'm curious 🙂 Thanks for any thoughts

Domain redirect math?
I’m thinking about buying the domain of a former competitor who is getting out of the business. His site has quite a few links, a healthy link profile from several hundred domains (a few common sites, but mostly different) and a Domain Authority of 44 (mine is a 55). His anchor text portfolio is very appropriate to my business, and the domain contains one of my most important keywords (one that’s in my own domain). His site ranks for a many of the same keywords as mine. Where mine is #3, his might be #4. I don’t want to operate his business (there’s a reason he’s getting out), but I was thinking that redirecting the domain to appropriate pages on mine would give a boost to the many long tail keywords which constitute a considerable part of my business. The question is how much of a boost? How much should I be willing to pay for his domain? If I get x visits/year from organic search and he gets y, and both sites rank for approximately the same terms, how much would you expect the two sites together get? Is there a rule of thumb for calculating this kind of thing involving some kind of logarithmic math? Does the combination of links of similar sites make 1+1=2, <2, or >2? Or is the only way to make this estimate to go through each of the major keywords trying to figure out what will happen to each? If, for instance, on average we combined our #3 & #4 rankings and got a #2 ranking, that would probably increase my clicks by 50% because of their higher SERP prominence. Based on my research, a visitor to my website is worth about $14. Assuming that his natural search visitors would be worth about the same amount if directed to my site, I would probably make 1/2 x * $14/year. I'm least comfortable with the first assumption. Is there a better way to evaluate this?

Relevance or Authority for Links
Which one do you weigh more than the other? I prefer high-authority sites over low-authority but relevant sites/pages personally. From my experience, non-relevant'authoritative' websites/pages tend to have a bigger impact than 'relevant' websites/pages. What do you think? What is your experience?

Links from Domain Portfolio Advertising Sites
I recently purchased a domain from a someone with a large portfolio and my site's link is still found on thousands of his one page/low quality sites. I find these links on Open Site Explorer but not in WT. Should I ask the portfolio owner to remove the link from his low quality domain advertising sites?
