How to get a ecommence website ranked without creating any article
-
I have a website selling mobile accessories. The keywords for our items are very competitive: iphone 4 case, iphone 5 case ... etc
I have customized meta titles and descriptions for every page but i never get to rank.
Any idea how my site can rank on google?
p.s. we don't want to write any article.

Your question was: "Any idea how my site can rank on google?"
The short answer is: Write unique content, especially on product and category pages, and get quality links.
The longer answer is:
Write unique, useful content for every product page on your site. Yes, you can outsource this but go for the highest quality offered, not the cheap stuff. Try odesk, text brokers, elance, helium, writer access, etc... and go with whichever one you like best.
Start EARNING (as opposed to "building") backlinks by providing a great user experience with good, useful content. This is hard to do if you "don't want to write any article". Something as simple as outlining the reasons why it isn't a good idea to use an iPhone 4 case for your iPhone 5 might be a good place to start for the example above. Then you can interlink to your store's category pages too. The promotions you're doing are a great link-earning opportunity. Be sure to let bloggers (those in the money-saving / deal niche especially) know about it in a helpful, non-intrusive way.

the goal of selling at cost is to improve ranking and increase inbound traffic.
than when your site gets more visits for your keywords sell at profit.
-
Thats a really good point. Instead of getting them to tell others after they purchased, it may works better to get them to share on social sites before they purchased.
However, i do not want to promote my promotional deals only. Customers temp to always buy the cheapest deal and ignore what we actually sell.
Does this happen to you also? How do you gain those value customers?
-
the way that worked for me is to "help" those bargain hunters share their experience socially.
there is no use to sale at cost if this does get any buzz.
I had some success in implementing giveaways and raffles on the site.
this is what I think if you do this sale for $1
- ask youself what do I expects those buyers to do on my site? (share on FB, Tweet or +1
- create the funnel in away that will lead to the goal.
- implement measuring for this goal
- test and improve

Thanks for your respond. We have thought about the same thing too.
In fact we have already tried selling things at a lost to draw customers. (we have tried to sell things at our cost-price but it is no longer a bargain comparing to those sellers from China)
With no surprise, selling at a lost seems to work really well on getting new customers. We got 1000+ purchases for the last promotions ($1 for a iPhone case delivered, free 3-days delivery.) p.s most customers get their products in a day and always come back when we do the same promotion.
There is no doubt that our customer service is very best (we get 99.7% rating on eBay). 100% refund if products arrived broken etc.. However, we just don't get the come back customer nor the word of month referral. It seems like people are only here to get the things at the give-away price and they are not interested in getting your other products.
Did you do the same thing but works out? any other suggestions?

Thanks for your advise.
Good product descriptions: We can do an unique description for every phone cases we got but it will just be repeating the same meaning with different content. We can detail the outlook of the item and what its made out of but we might have to hire people to do this. (since in not very good in english writing). Do you think It is worth investing the money? Google will simply rank our products even if no one is linking to them?
Small videos: We always want to try making videos but cost around $3000 AUD to make one here in Australia. Where can we outsource this job cheap and getting good quality worth paying video?

I would like to share my take on this question. (inspired by something I read here at Moz.
the assumption is that the site gets minimal traffic per month (hundreds).
if you are only interested in generating more sales let's talk about flipping the funnel.
in my eyes it means taking the traffic you have and even with a very low number of sales create a unique and an extra-ordinary experience. wow your small number of clients, even break even or lose a little on those sales (consider this an SEO expense). make sure that your small number of visitors or buyers feel unique to the point of "falling in love" with you site. take them to a "night out" they will not forget. if you will succeed in wowing them and being unique many of them will share their expedience. that sharing will leave a foot print sniffed by Google and your site will get more traffic. you will create some more wowing. and this is the best way for real inbound marketing. no need to spam the net, let real visitors and buyers create the links for you. this should work in the long run

you just said it's competitive so you better start off page seo asap. You wont rank for spammed out niches like iphone cases if you dont start doing link building, unless its ultra long tail.
ecommerce onpage seo, you seem to know it already, just make sure you have some good content on your category pages, it's one of those things people forget.

Hi there, for an e-commerce website like yours, you can come up with unique product descriptions, you can include the user reviews, you can also include some content explaining the usage, features and functionality of the product. You can also come up with small videos about the product to be included on the product page. To put it simple, you can study sites like Amazon.com.
Only page titles and meta descriptions will not help here. You will need unique and useful content to be able to rank high in the search engines and it is not different for e-commerce websites. Hope that helps.
Best,
Devanur Rafi.

External Ranking Help
Hello, I am working on the following website: completesteamclean.ca and I have reached a plateau on how to increase my ranking to defeat my two top competitors. When I run competitive link metrics it would appear that where I seem to be lacking is in external links and linking root domains. Does anyone have any tips on how I can build these areas of the website? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

New Links in Old Articles
We have recently launched a new website for a brand that always existed in our company, but never had its own website. Now I'm looking to increase it's organic visibility. We had quite a few links coming into our other sites, when in fact they would be more relevant to our new site. The only things is I found a really good one from 2012 - what would be your thoughts on asking the author to change the link? How would Google view? Would I damage the organic visibility of the site it is currently linking to? Thanks, Brian

Page Rank, Domain Rank, Link Building....Oh my!
Hi Everyone, So I am looking into a couple of sites that we can use for press release distribution. Naturally, I am looking for sites that will improve our SEO (sites that have a high domain authority). I guess I am just trying to wrap my head around the whole domain/page authority and how it effects our SEO. So for example, I am looking at prlog.org. They have an overall domain authority of 91...sweet! Is this all I should be looking at when I am looking to place a press release, which will include targeted links using appropriate anchor text? If I drill down even further to the actual section that the press release will live on, which will be the security section of the site, the page authority is a 49. Is this what I should be looking at? Do I have to drill down even further and look at the page rank for the actual URL that my press release will actually live on? I am assuming since it will be a totally new page that the page authority will be very low. Is this correct? Should I be looking at a combination of the two? The page authority of 49 is pretty low but the domain authority is very high. What does this mean for my SEO and my links? In a nutshell I need to know what I should be looking at for SEO purposes, is it domain authority, is it page authority of the section the site will live on or is it the actual page that my press release lives on. Is it a combination? What would you do in this situation? Also, could you give me a little more insight into when a low domain/page authority can actually hurt you. What the threshold where you get no link juice or are actually penalized? Do you have any insight in the domain/page domain number that is considered not worth it? Thanks all! Pat

Tool based websites after Panda and Penguin
I have several sites that I classify as "tool" based sites. These type of sites includes anagram solvers for word games, ip address lookups and other various based tools. I like to specialize in these kind of sites because frankly I am not a blogger and hate to write. Before Panda I was doing fairly well, I had many users coming to my sites everyday. The Panda update "tips" that I read all over including on google sites seems to always refer to articles and how to deal with those. The only problem is that I am not an article based site. Yes I have content that describes my tools, but we are talking 1 to at most 2 paragraphs per page. I know Panda effected my ratings because I lost ranking with some big keywords. Since then I have been able to gain some ground, but I am having a hard time trying to figure out what exactly google wants from a site like me. The main path I am getting from Panda is concentrating on the users, and what will make their experience better. I focus on that whenever I make a change. I figure the easier I make it for them, the happier they are going to be. I am wondering what you guys think about some things I can look into creating or focusing on to enhance my site. I use social media heavily (FB, tweets, posterous, blog, RSS Feed) already, but is there something else I can look at that might help me that I am not seeing. I seem to be running out of ideas. Maybe add more content to my pages? Check link structure (its pretty basic as it is) add more article based blog posts? Just want some ideas, I will send my URL to anyone who wants to take a look and see what I may be missing. C

Mass article submission
I'm quite new to SEO and initially I was learning from the wrong sources who suggested to submit content to as many article directories as possible and the same with website submission to other web directories. Most of the directories they had suggested were low quality, with the only quality ones being made for a niche, which was not my websites niche. They also recommended other bad on-page techniques such as spinning/scraping other websites content - not that I followed this method anyway. Anyway, after educating myself more on how SEO and the search engines themselves work, I know that this is not the best practice. My website initially benefited from having all of these links but now has dropped off ranking for the keyword entirely. It still ranks on the front page for other long tail keywords and the actual domain name, but not the primary keywords. I'm worried that Google has in some way blacklisted my website for the main keywords, which were also used in all of these articles, but not the others if that's possible. At the moment I'm restructuring my website by increasing the amount of content and especially the quality of content so that I can submit it to better directories such as DMOZ and other niche specific directories and websites. Will Google look past the links from the low quality directories if my website is included in DMOZ and other high quality, niche specific directories? Is it better to just abandon my current website and start fresh? Thanks for any answers and/or advice in advance.

What percentage of an old post can I change without lose rank?
A few months ago I updated some old posts of my site (Wordpress), to improve old content, with new pictures (better quality), better content, new info about product, and links to our review of this product (newer posts). Most part of the content is this old posts were new, so I "deleted" the old text but replaced the new one with another of better quality. I suppose it will help new post to improve rank, but I los thousands of daily visits, because old posts ranks worse since the change. What do you think? What happened here? Maybe I shouldn't update the whole text, only add a link to new content? Thank you!

Getting links - the actual final approach to do so
Hi All, So once you use OSE Tool to point you in the right direction of sites that might be able to give you links, what are the best practices for then reaching out to the website? I get that you need to give value in your request for a link and offer something of value – but what else to think about?? Ie Call them, email them, email who? Follow up with phone call??? Do you just use the standard contact form on their website? Presumably you need to track all this, just do it in a spreadsheet? What do you say in the email? Do you offer them a link (if you can?) I guess it’s a thing that sounds easy enough – go get a link – but I would imagine that people who have done this enough with some success can maybe share some of the things that particularly worked or did not work… At the moment it just seems a daunting / time consuming task - even thinking of getting an intern to help do all this – pros and cons to that as well??? Thanks for your time!

Ranking dropping for certain keyword
Hi There, Just wondering what has happened to my rankings as I cant seem to understand it. In the past week we've dropped from page 1 to page 10 for a certain keyword. The URL is also different that google displays - instead of displaying the individual page it now just links to the main domain. All the other keywords have remained consistent and some have improved. The page is still in the Google Index if I manually search for it. There hasn't been any dramatic change to the page except I've created a few links to it. Have we been penalized by Google and is there anything I can do?
