A number of factors should be kept it mind but firstly keep a focus on the On page SEO and the Site Content Optimization...also choose best CMS like WP as start-up as it is also easy to customize and update...

First off, congratulations and good luck on your new site design. However, this is a VERY general question. The best advice I can give you is going to be a reading list. I would urge you to review ALL of these resources so you can understand what "SEO-friendly Site Design" really involves:
Moz Basics of SEO Friendly Design - http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development
Designing for SEO - http://moz.com/blog/designing-for-seo
The SEO of Responsive Web Design - http://moz.com/blog/seo-of-responsive-web-design (Responsive Design is the Google recommendation and the "hot" approach these days.)
SMX 2013 Boot Camp - SEO Friendly Web Design (great read) - http://www.bruceclay.com/blog/seo-friendly-web-design/
The Web Untangled - http://webwithit.com/products/the-web-un-tangled-pdf-book (great "How To" tutorials that cover everything for new site owners, including initial set-up! - Paid)
I hope the above is helpful. Good luck and make sure to use the search box in this forum so you can bring up other, related, questions of a similar line.

How to jumpstart a new Ecommerce site
Hello, I've got a new Ecommerce site I'm jumpstarting. It's one of those sites that takes a while to rank for. Here's what we're doing: 1. Creating a beautiful, mobile friendly site. 2. Adding a long detailed home page answering all the questions that people come to our industry keyword results with. 3. Adding detailed, beautiful cateogy pages. 4. Adding detailed, beautiful product pages. 5. Adding beautiful, long About Us & Resource Sites list pages. 6. Offering straight up obvious free shipping and no tax even though that's taking a hit in our industry. 7. We're going after the 2 main informational terms (keyword explorer) in the industry with a vengance - 20X as good as the competition for the main term. 8. We're adding 20-30 pages of articles to help our customers and hit major keyword search terms, although there's not much in our industry. What else would you recommend doing to jumpstart a new Ecommerce site that has difficulty being in the top 50? Thanks.

Moving half my website to a new website: 301?
Good Morning! We currently have two websites which are driving all of our traffic. Our end goal is to combine the two and fold them into each other. Can I redirect the duplicate content from one domain to our main domain even though the URL's are different. Ill give an example below. (The domains are not the real domains). The CEO does not want to remove the other website entirely yet, but is willing to begin some sort of consolidation process. ABCaddiction.com is the main domain which covers everything from drug addiction to dual diagnosis treatment. ABCdualdiagnosis.com is our secondary website which covers everything as well. Can I redirect the entire drug addiction half of the website to ABCaddiction.com? With the eventual goal of moving everything together.

Website.com/blog/post vs website.com/post
I have clients with Wordpress sites and clients with just a Wordpress blog on the back of website. The clients with entire Wordpress sites seem to be ranking better. Do you think the URL structure could have anything to do with it? Does having that extra /blog folder decrease any SEO effectiveness? Setting up a few new blogs now...

Do we need breadcrumbs?
I found myself in a weird position today having to defend the use of breadcrumbs.... This is what I wrote.... From an SEO point of view it is best practice to have breadcrumbs as they are high up in the code and help the search engines crawling the site. Do you need a breadcrumb for SEO – Yes – as well as from a usability point of you view users can navigate a breadcrumb instead of hitting the back button. What would you have said?

Anchor text help
Hello, I am a small website designer in Mexico.. as you know it is hard to rank in these keywords My main competitors appear with (diseño web = web design) on google.com.mx Almost 80% of the anchor text from my links are (diseño web Mexico =web design Mexico) If I search (diseño web Mexico =web design) on google.com.mx I appear on first page. If I search (diseño web = web design) on google.com.mx I appear on page 3. My questions: Is this because my anchor text is diseño web Mexico? should i change it to (diseño web = web design)? Or is it because (diseño web = web design) is a harder key word to rank? this is my website http://bit.ly/eKyWvr Regards
