301 Redirects
-
Hi,
We have migrated to a new domain name and I wrote my redirects as follows:
Redirect 301 / http://www.healthpointe.net
Redirect 301 /urgent_care_locations.shtml http://www.healthpointe.net/healthpointe-locations/
Redirect 301 /locations.shtml http://www.healthpointe.net/healthpointe-locations/
Redirect 301 /career_client_relations_rep.shtml http://www.healthpointe.net/careers/
My issue is that when I include the first redirect, which is to the main page of the website that the other redirects stop working. Any idea what the problem could be?

It's failing because of the order. With Redirect 301 / http://www.healthpointe.net first, all other pages that were after / will not work. Also, going to David's answer, redirecting a /index.html is a special case, and there are a few ways around it such as using DirectoryIndex index.html at the top of the file or with a rewrite condition such as:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.htmlRewriteRule ^(.)index.html$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

It would have been allot easier if you had used the same url names as the old site.
If there is a way for you to change your url slugs to the old ones you can use this simple bit of code in the .htaccess file to redirect all old urls to the new one:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.newdomain.co.uk
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]My guess that it isn't working would be that maybe "/" isn't the original home page of your old site? Do you have a "index.html"or similar and are using a .htaccess rule in your old site to determine what the root page should be?
Maybe your .htaccess file should look like this:
Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.healthpointe.net

Redirect 301 /armaflex.html http://www.just-insulation.com/002-brands/armaflex.html
Returns this response in the URL bar of ...
http://www.just-insulation.com/002-brands/armaflex.html?file=armaflex
I am at a loss to understand why the suffix "?file=armaflex" is added The following code is inserted at the top of the file ...
RewriteEngine On redirect html pages to the root domain RewriteRule ^index.html$ / [NC,R,L] Force www. prefix in URLs and redirect non-www to www RewriteCond %{http_host} ^just-insulation.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.just-insulation.com/ [R=301,NC] Any advice would be most welcome.0 -
Simple 301 redirect a subfolder to another subfolder
Hi, I have a number of sub-folders that I have to move, each of which contains a number of files. subfolder A has files a, b & c subfolder B has files d, e & f
Technical SEO | | aactive
subfolder C has files g, h & i A, B & C folders need to be X, Y & Z Will the following work? RewriteRule ^subfolder-A/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-X/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^subfolder-B/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Y/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^subfolder-C/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Z/ [R=301,L] will this result in visitors to http://www.domain.com/subfolder-B/f.html being redirected to http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Y/f.html? All on the same domain. in reality we are talking hundreds of sub folders and thousands of files so we don't want to have to reference every file individually in the htaccess. Thanks0 -

301 redirectmatch
I think I'm starting to loss my mind. I have worked with regex before with very little problems how with my redirects nothing appears to be working. A little guidance is needed! The Low down I have a site with Joomla CMS backend. The site is undergoing and SEO overhaul I was simple hoping to use a 301 redirect o these old pages that are now a causing 404's The addresses /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53_blank /shop/product.php?id_product=11 I have tried the following redirects but no avail RedirectMatch 301 ^/shop/product.php?id_product=11$ http://www.nomitang.com/index.php/en/vm_getaway_w this does not work at all if I remove the ?.....ending then I can simply redirect the product page but this is not what we need. Why does RedirectMatch not register anything after the "?"? I also tried this RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=53_blank [NC]

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.nomitang.com/ [R=301,L] But this also didn't work. Please could someone tell me how to redirect these url's and how to deal with the extrension Thanks Stefan0 -
Will rankings for my micro site rank better if I 301 redirect it to my main site?
This is my first time asking so I will try to be as clear as possible. Ok, I have a micro site that is an (exact match domain) and the domain is a couple 3-4 years old and ranks very well for several search terms. The main two terms it ranks for are like this. houses for rent in XXXXX XXXXX homes for rent (XXXXX equals a city name) The issue is this site has no backlinks, zero advanced SEO, I only did basic optimization to it when i set the site up. Even site structure, url structure all are not good.
Technical SEO | | Robbie8299
The only page I have ever even seen rank is the main root url. But with all that the site does really good in the top 1-2 results for key search terms. Now, I have a main site that is a very big site that has steadily been climbing in search terms every month with great backlinks, optimized for the city and all.
It currently ranks on second page for the listed search terms listed above. What I want to do is 301 redirect this microsite to my city page on my main site that is much better optimized for the key city terms.
The 301 redirect would point this "root domain" (mymicrosite.com) to my city page that looks like this. www.mymaindomain.com/city/XXXXXXX If I do this will Google rank my main URL city page as well as it ranks this microsite with zero links, seo, etc, etc. What happens if it does not? Will I be able to turn off the 301 redirect and keep the microsite rankings? My main reason for wanting this is I want this city page to rank well and I only want to optimize one site instead of both. Any help would be great!0 -
Trailing Slashes In Url use Canonical Url or 301 Redirect?
I was thinking of using 301 redirects for trailing slahes to no trailing slashes for my urls. EG: www.url.com/page1/ 301 redirect to www.url.com/page1 Already got a redirect for non-www to www already. Just wondering in my case would it be best to continue using htacces for the trailing slash redirect or just go with Canonical URLs?

301 redirect on the root of the site
Due to some historic difficulties with our URL Rewriter, we are in the position of having the root of our site 301 redirected to another page. So the root of our site: http://www.propertylive.co.uk/ has a 301 redirect to: http://www.propertylive.co.uk/home.aspx We're aware that this isn't great and we're working to fix this completely, but what impact will this have on our SEO?
