Breaks in meta |
-
Hi
Does anyone have an opinion on breaks in meta & whether Google reads what is after the break? For example
Tubular Shelves | Easy Store Plus | Heavy Duty Shelving
Thanks!

While Google and the crawlers will still read all of the content before and after the break, the meta description is for use by more than just the crawlers! Users look to the meta description as a description of what kind of content is on the webpage in question, and use it oftentimes to decide whether they'll visit that page or not. For that reason, it usually makes more sense to use breaks in your title, and to make your meta description as descriptive and keyword-rich as you can while remaining relevant in terms of content.
For example:
Title: HVAC Company in Maryland | Heating & Cooling in MD | Montgomery County HVAC
**Meta: **Are you looking for heating and cooling service in Montgomery County, Maryland? Contact your local MD HVAC Company today!

Hi Becky,
Like Tymen said, separators in titles are fine - not matter which separator you choose to use.
Google will still reads and indexes the full title and will not cut off at the first separator.
I wouldn't be too concerned about where your separator is cutting off potential search queries - there are much bigger factors to consider before thinking too much about this.
Cheers,
David

Hi Becky,
Google does read what is after the break since I use it on my Homepage and the complete titkle including breaks is being indexed. The only thing negative about it is that the words before and after the break are not being indexed together
eg: Tubular Shelves | Easy
You would index well for Tubular Shelves but not as good for tubular shelves easy. Hope you understand it and it helps you.
Regards Tymen

Incorrect Spelling Indexed In Meta Info - Can't Change It
Hi,It would be great if a member of the community could help me to resolve this issue.Google is indexing an incorrect spelling on of our key pages and we can't identify the reason why.- The page in question: https://newbridgesilverware.com/jewelleryAs you can see from the attached image, the Meta Title is rendered to contain the keyword "jewelry" (the American spelling.) We want this to read as "jewellery" - the British-English spelling. Yet in the page source the word is given in the meta title as "jewellery". Nowhere in the page source or on the page itself does the American spelling appear - yet Google still renders it in the Meta Title. Can anyone identify why this is happening and offer any possible solutions?Much appreciatedDhqJp

Importance - meta title keyword
HI I want to find out how important people think it is to have the keyword as the first word in the meta title? Is this something that would even make a difference?

Should brand/company be included in meta title?
Is there any point/benefit/requirement in using brand/company name in the meta title, I realise search engines like Google prefer brand focused pages, However it is unlikely that someone would be including the company in our search terms. Any thoughts?

When does it make sense to make a meta description longer than what's considered best practice?
I've seen all the length recommendations and understand the reasoning is that they will be cut off when you search the time but I've also noticed that Google will "move" the meta description if the search term that the user is using is in the cached version of the page. S I have a case where Google is indexing the pages but not caching the content (at least not yet). So we see the meta description just fine on the Google results but we can't see the content cache when checking the Google cached version. **My question is: **In this case, why would it be a bad idea to make a slightly lengthier (but still relevant) meta description with the intent that one of the terms in that description could match the user's search terms and the description would "move" to highlight that term in the results.

Duplicated Meta Descriptions on Dynamic Paginated Pages
If the title didn't put you off please read on! 🙂 According to our latest Moz Crawl Report we have circa 700 instances of duplicate Meta Description on pages that are both dynamically created and also paginated, however, I believe that number to be greater! We are unable to manual make changes to these pages (because they are dynamic) and so we need ask our web devs to create a change in how the Meta is created... If I am not making myself clear (and there is a good chance that I'm not!) then here is an example of what I mean; http://www.bolsovercruiseclub.com/cruise-deals/silversea-cruise-deals/ There are 92 pages of cruise deals for this particular operator with the results of each page having the option to sort by 4 categories; Recommended Cruise Price Sail Date Best Value 4 x 92 = 368 instances just for this one operator! The current Meta Desc is; A selection of the best Silversea cruise deals taking in over 800 destinations across all 7 continents. ...which isn't great I know! The problem is how to make each page (in each category) unique If any of you have incurred anything similar and have any kind of solution or recommendation then please respond - I would be most grateful! Andy

Googlebot + Meta-Refresh
Quick question, can Googlebot (or other search engines) follow meta refresh tags? Does it work anything like a 301 in terms of passing value to the new page?
