I have a question for the links in a sitemap. Wordpress works with a sitemap that first link to the different kind of pages:
- pagesitemap.xml
- categorysitemap.xml
- productsitemap.xml
- etc. etc.
These links on the first page are clickable. We have a website that also links to the different pages but it's not clickable, just a flat link. Is this an issue?

Those links are made into hrefs (eg made clickable) by xml styling that's been applied. It's purely for user convenience - doesn't matter to search engines either way.
There is actually a massive benefit to having multiple sub-sitemaps like that though. Once you've submitted the sitemap index to Google Search Console, it will break out the crawling and indexing report for each sub-sitemap. Which means you will now be able to monitor and asses each of different sections of your site separately. Vastly easier to detect and fix crawl errors that way than when everything's lumped into a single sitemap.

This isn't an issue, and most sites don't provide clickable links to their sitemap/s.
I would recommend adding your sitemap URLs to Google's Search Console though, to help Google crawl your site more efficiently.

Hello,
WordPress has a habit of breaking sitemaps into categories, for me this is unnecessary as a normal sitemap can hold 50k of urls. In each of those categories is a smaller sitemap which is working as it should, if you are worried you can check the sitemap status in your search engine console - formal webmaster tools. One last fun one, there are two kinds of sitemap one for users and one for bots, the .xml kind is for bots if you were curious its not normal to click on a sitemap as seen here- https://moz.com/sitemap.xml (that is also directing to other sitemaps but thats per sides the point)
Hope that helps.

Google Search Console Showing 404 errors for product pages not in sitemap?
We have some products with url changes over the past several months. Google is showing these as having 404 errors even though they are not in sitemap (sitemap shows the correct NEW url). Is this expected? Will these errors eventually go away/stop being monitored by Google?

Getting 'Indexed, not submitted in sitemap' for around a third of my site. But these pages ARE in the sitemap we submitted.
As in the title, we have a site with around 40k pages, but around a third of them are showing as "Indexed, not submitted in sitemap" in Google Search Console. We've double-checked the sitemaps we have submitted and the URLs are definitely in the sitemap. Any idea why this might be happening? Example URL with the error: https://www.teacherstoyourhome.co.uk/german-tutor/Egham Sitemap it is located on: https://www.teacherstoyourhome.co.uk/sitemap-subject-locations-surrey.xml

Despite proper hreflang and lang attribute implementation using xml sitemaps, I'm seeing sitelinks from different countries. Any help please?
When someone searches for our brand in US, instead of only US links, users are served with canadian or iranian sitelinks. Despite we have properly implemented xml sitemaps with hreflangs, even we have implemented lang attribute in the head section of source code for every country. I'd be thankful for any advice.

Some URLs in the sitemap not indexed
Our company site has hundreds of thousands of pages. Yet no matter how big or small the total page count, I have found that the "URLs Indexed" in GWMT has never matched "URLS in Sitemap". When we were small and now that we have a LOT more pages, there is always a discrepancy of ~10% or so missing from the index. It's difficult to know which pages are not indexed, but I have found some that I can verify are in the Sitemap.xml file but not at all in the index. When I go to GWMT I can "Fetch and Render" missing pages fine - it's not as though it's blocked or inaccessible. Any ideas on why this is? Is this type of discrepancy typical?

Will an XML sitemap override a robots.txt
I have a client that has a robots.txt file that is blocking an entire subdomain, entirely by accident. Their original solution, not realizing the robots.txt error, was to submit an xml sitemap to get their pages indexed. I did not think this tactic would work, as the robots.txt would take precedent over the xmls sitemap. But it worked... I have no explanation as to how or why. Does anyone have an answer to this? or any experience with a website that has had a clear Disallow: / for months , that somehow has pages in the index?

BEST Wordpress Robots.txt Sitemap Practice??
Alright, my question comes directly from this article by SEOmoz http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/robotstxt Yes, I have submitted the sitemap to google, bing's webmaster tools and and I want to add the location of our site's sitemaps and does it mean that I erase everything in the robots.txt right now and replace it with? <code>User-agent: * Disallow: Sitemap: http://www.example.com/none-standard-location/sitemap.xml</code> <code>???</code> because Wordpress comes with some default disallows like wp-admin, trackback, plugins. I have also read other questions. but was wondering if this is the correct way to add sitemap on Wordpress Robots.txt http://www.seomoz.org/q/robots-txt-question-2 http://www.seomoz.org/q/quick-robots-txt-check. http://www.seomoz.org/q/xml-sitemap-instruction-in-robots-txt-worth-doing I am using Multisite with Yoast plugin so I have more than one sitemap.xml to submit Do I erase everything in Robots.txt and replace it with how SEOmoz recommended? hmm that sounds not right. User-agent: *
