Can piracy sites linking to you hurt your SEO?
-
Hello,
Our website sells software that we have developed, but there are piracy websites that offer a crack/keygen to our software and are linking to our site. From an SEO perspective, are those sites hurtful to us if their spam score is below 30 and their DA is not 1? We'd like to understand if there is any action we need to take from an SEO point or if our site's SEO is not affected by it.
Thank you!

Hi Marynau
Look on the right side of teh Moz bar and they give a rating out of 17. I'd say anything over 6/7 would be considered bad. Having said that I rely on SEMrush to tell me if it's toxic or not.
Best Regards
Nigel

Thanks, Nigel! Some of the sites have high spam score (25-30% based on Moz's new spam score system) but also have high DA (between 48-65). Which metrics would you take into account more when making a decision to disavow?

Hi Marynau
I doubt very much that they will do you any harm. It's more to do with how spammy the site is and whether it has 1000's of outbound links. Install the MOZbar in chrome and check the spam score. If it's high ie 4-7 then consider this:
1. Ask them directly to remove any links to your website. Email them.
2. If you get no reply after a week or so upload a disavow file here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main. Download the template first so you know the format.I use SEMrush and that gives me an indication of my clients (what SEMrush call) toxic links. MOZ has something similar but it's not as obvious which are the really bad ones.
It's simple to add them to a list of sites to contact and request removal. Old spammy directories are the worst but I have seen a lot of spammy links recently from Theglobe and similar mega directories. It's always good to keep an eye on your backlink profile.
Note that the disavow file should always contain ALL of the links you want to disavow - you don't add and add - they should all be on one csv. Also, it's simple to 'un-disavow' a particular URL, just remove it.
I hope that helps
Regards
Nigel

Back link from site with DA of 72 to a website domain. Clicking on the link redirects to our website not the attended one.
Hi,
Link Building | | JIMBO16
I've ran a back link check and discovered a good back link to a site which then gets redirected back to my company's website. I have a feeling that an old SEO agency has purchased a small website which has a decent link back from a relevant organisation with a high Domain authority and then redirects the domain to our website to get the link juice. What are your thought on this? Is this really bad practise and possibly damaging? Thanks, Jim0 -
Geographical Relevance of Back links - Important for SEO?
If I have an AU domain, will Google give more weight to back links from other AU domains in the Australian search results, or will quality links from anywhere in the world count much the same? Intuitively, you would think that AU links would be more relevant for an AU site in the Australian SERPS and Google would therefore give these more weight, but are there any good articles/research/anecdotal accounts to show this? Thanks!

Any value in link building to local pages on my site?
If I'm trying to rank for the term 'wedding band' with my url: http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/wedding-bands will linking to local pages such as: http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts/hire-wedding-bands/wedding-bands-london help the main page to rank? I added the 'local' pages to try and pick up any traffic from long tail search queries but my main focus is on getting the main page to rank as the traffic from long tail queries is so small. So is it worth me spending time building links to these local pages in order to try and help the main page rank?

Interesting link to a competitors site
I recently found a very interesting link to two of my competitors sites. The companies are number 2 and 3 in Google for my targeted keywords (for some reason Wikipedia is number 1) and are both linked from the home page of this site. I don't want to leave a link for linkers site because I don't want them to be able to see that I'm snooping on them but, here is the scenerio: The site that they are linked from is a .org site. It is basically our targeted keywords in a .org. Something like bluewidgets.org. At the very bottom of the home page are some tabs, you click the first tab and it opens about 20 new tabs, when you click any of those 20 tabs it displays some text at the bottom of the page. This text is of no value to visitors, it is obvious to me what is happening here. Both companies are linked with targeted keywords in the anchor and title text. I'm wondering if I should also pursue a link from this page. I know there is value in a .org link but this site seems to be built to link to those two sites. Anybody else ever run into anything like I'm describing. Should I post a link to this site?

Does it affect SEO of how quickly you get in-bound links?
We have undertaken a very aggressive in-bound linking campaign. I have a whole team of people working to get in-bound links to our site. But I dont want to cause any red flags to the search engines on how quickly we get all of these in-bound links. Will they notice or flag our site if they see a quick rise of in-bound links? Thanks.

Can Referral Programs pass Link Juice?
Does using referral programs, such as by using index.php?referral_id=0001 pass any link juice back to the page index.php? I'm creating a web app that ideally I'd like people to be able to link to and bookmark - so that they can pull up their own settings. Is there any way that I can solve both of these at once? The use of PHP GET and the use of SEO. I'd really like to get a solution as I'm developing my new website! Any help would be appreciated!
