      Hi everyone,

I am currently working on a site where people can buy mail-order bagels, i.e. the bagels are shipped via postal mail. It's a good alternative for places that have no good bagel stores nearby, especially in small, rural towns.

I am about to launch a link-building campaign for the website, but am a little stuck as to where to begin. My first thought was guest posting, but it seems like the vast majority of food blog owners are very protective of their blogs and rarely, if ever, allow guest posts. I also thought about doing sponsored reviews (i.e. sending mommy bloggers free samples in exchange for a review), but that's essentially a paid link, i.e. a no-no. There are of course generic web directories, but those only get you so far, and article marketing is out of the question (too spammy).

Was hoping I might be able to bounce off some ideas off of you all. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance for whatever tips/ideas you might be able to share 🙂

I think sponsored reviews the way you suggesting to do them, getting a review by sending samples, is a good idea and is alright. Guest posting also should be possible on different food related blogs, some quick examples of blogs I found from a search in Google [they may not be directly relevant to your line of business but I believe you still can write something for them and get a reasonably relevant link in return]:

        http://www.farmtotableonline.org/write-for-us/

        http://www.eatwithme.com/about-us/

        http://eatdrinkbetter.com/write-for-us/

Apart from that, I believe you should also have a blog section on your site and create interesting "link worthy" content that when properly promoted could draw you a few good links. Link building is not only about "building" links but also about "attracting" enough links. So you have to work on that as well.

I personally believe submitting to directories whether they're the free general directories, the paid directories or relevant food industry specific directories, they all would offer you some amount of value in the link that you get from them. Just make sure you don't target a single term when building links with the directories, you want to target a large set of seemingly "natural" terms so that you don't suffer from any possible "over-optimization" penalty in having too many links with one or two anchor text.

I don't know that I would consider sponsored reviews from mom bloggers a bad tactic. Not that it matters, but I have a few clients in the home improvement niche that regularly do reviews when they get free product. As long as you aren't asking for a favorable review in exchange for samples... who cares?

Also, don't forget social... FB, Twitter, Plus, Pinterest, etc.. all has good affects on any online marketing plan.

Finally, some directories as well as blog commenting still is helpful as long as you are doing it for the right reasons... don't purposely search out do-follow blogs only for commenting. Search out the best places to leave comments and build relationships with those bloggers, I promise you if you leave some butt kickin' comments on a food bloggers' site, you will have a better chance of getting a guest post with them.

When conducting a link building strategy does it matter the country the link is from?

We are a UK business and if we have links mostly from US based blogs and websites does this penalise us.  The links are from relevant websites and topics.  Should we be focusing on .co.uk sites

Has your site ever been targeted by malicious link building executed by a competitor?

I'm pretty sure one of my client's sites has been targeted by malicious black hat link building tactics employed by a competitor site. Over the last few weeks we've gotten 100s of super low quality spammy backlinks. No one has been doing link building, so the only thing I can think of is that competitor entered our URL into some spammy backlink building sites. Has anyone else experienced this? It's the real estate industry, so I wouldn't be surprised considering how competitive it is, but I'd love to hear your experiences.

Backlinks vs External Links vs Referral Links vs Outbound links

Hello all, I was just wondering if you could explain the difference between all the links above? I'm confused as they all seem to be the same or similar and I would just like to clearly know what distinguishes them from eachother. Thanks for your help, Jayne

Any white label link building providers like Audience Bloom?

Have used the services of Audience Bloom and do think they are great in being able to provide white label link building services: http://www.audiencebloom.com/services/link-building/white-label-link-building-services-for-agencies/ They are quite expensive though and so we are wondering if any one can help to provide other similar and credible companies like them that offer white label link building but at a lower cost. We would appreciate the advice here of anyone that is unbiased and unaffiliated in providing an credible recommendations. Thanks so much!

            Link building with PDFs

I created a manual for a popular piece of equipment and placed it, as a PDF-file, on my website. The PDF contains a clickable link to the root domain of my website. Other websites have downloaded the PDF and put it on their own website, hosting it themselves. Since Google indexes PDFs, does the link in the PDF count as a regular 'link' from an external website, and does it have comparable value? Can't find any thoughts or studies about this anywhere.

            Link Detox and Link Removal

I have a question about which links to remove after running a link detox from Link Research Tools. First a little back story. I had had an SEO company link building for one of the websites I own.  But I have recently stopped working with them. In the last month my rankings have near dropped off the charts. I have just recently gotten access to Google webmaster tools and noticed an unnatural link warning from back in March. So yesterday I ran link detox and it reported 19 toxic links, 120 suspicious links, and 24 healthy links. It's rather obvious that I should remove all of the toxic links. They all from sites that have been deindexed by google. But my question is a about the suspicious links. What should my criteria be for removing them? Am I better off removing them all and leaving my site with only 24 healthy links or should I personally comb through them and remove only the worst of the worst so that I leave my site with a few more links? I'd really like to get the site ready to resubmit to google as soon as I can. Thoughts? yyCOf.png

I remember hearing in one of the link building webinars that if you hold a patent then you could get a link from that somehow.

Any examples or suggestions as to how this is done?

Is it important to have a geo modifier for local SEO link building?

If anyone here is familiar with local SEO, you may have noticed that there are different local results for: "city + Keyword" and just the "keyword". When building links will you end up targeting both with a geo modifier in the link, or is it beneficial to build links without the geo modifer for the keyword?
