What is IP Diversity ?

@Klarke, that WBF video addresses "link diversity" which is a related but separate topic.
IP diversity would address links coming from separate IPs.
Often a site owner, especially on shared hosting plans, have a single IP. They can host literally dozens of sites with that IP. When multiple sites link from the same IP, it is an indicator the links are not "independent votes" but rather the same site owner repeatedly "voting" for the same site.
In the early 2000s site owners were able to manipulate rankings in this manner. In the mid 2000s, search engines caught on to this type of scheme and began looking for IP diversity. Multiple links from the same IP were treated as less valuable or the links were devalued almost completely.
In the late 2000s, the concept of "C-block" diversity became important. IPs take the form of numbers such as XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX where the numbers are seen in the format of AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD. An IP of 150.76.44.255 would have a C block of 44. When IPs were assigned to various web hosts, the C block mostly remained constant.
Around 2010, search engines further evolved to keep up with the times. Presently it is easy for anyone to acquire a range of completely different IPs on the same server. Deeper analysis is required to catch manipulation from the same site owner. For example, often the nameserver will reveal other sites on the server, but that information can be manipulated as well.
The concept of IP diversity should not be thought about unless you are venturing into black hat SEO in which case your efforts will likely fail. For the relatively few people who get away with it nowadays, there are tons who are caught.

1. Does your ranking get affected if you are associated with a website who is linked to you and is on the blacklist for spam only on Barracuda?
**2. If a website has a bad rating on WOT or WEBUTATION. Does that also hurt your ranking? ** Your help is appreciated. Thanks.0 -
When optimizing for a keyword, what would be a good ratio for keyword diversity?
We all have primary keywords that we are optimizing for. For instance one of mine is "Video Conferencing Systems." I've read that you should have about 5-10 different keywords you should optimize for, however, would you want to create more links with your primary keyword than your other keywords or spread them out evenly and optimize for the primary keyword on in the actual content of the page?

Anchor text diversity - post penguin.
Hi, It seems that achor text diversity is hugely important post penguin but what's the best strategy? What kind of anchor text should I be going for? As I understand it more that 60% of links with the keywords in trigger a google flag. For example are the following good examples for the term 'wedding singer'? local wedding singer, best wedding singer, wedding singer website, hire wedding singer. Would these cause triggers in google as all contain the keyword 'wedding singer'? Or should I be going for: click here, visit us, listen now, view a profile Obviously these words don't contain the anchor text 'wedding singer' but with a few exact match #wedding singer' anchor texts and good on page SEO will this mix give better results?

Which is better - A) links from multiple IP addresses, or B) Links with more associated social signals?
If you had to choose: A) 100 links contained in posts on 100 PR2* blogs, all on separate IP addresses, where none of the posts had associated social signals, or B) 100 links contained in posts within a single PR2* blog (single IP address), where each of the posts had 20 associated social signals, Which would you choose to increase your SERP performance? *I chose PR2 so that PageRank would not be a factor in the decision.

Multiple domains on same IP address, same niche but different locations.
I have a reseller web hosting account. I have more than 30 domains hosted on this account, and I have only one IP address. The websites are exactly similar in terms of niche but different locations, for example plumberlondon.co.uk

plumbermanchester.co.uk I am using almost same link building method. My question is, is it safe enough to be not penalised by Google? Would appreciate your opinions. Thanks0 -

How many links to aquire from one IP until penalty?
My client has a small site with about 340 links pointing to it. About 60 of them stem from one domain, a directory listing that posts new entries on almost every single site of their domain. My question now is: This obviously isn't a really clever link profile. But I can live with that as long as it doesn't HURT rankings or attracts some kind of penalty. Is there a rule of thumb how many (maybe percentage) links can safely stem from one domain without getting penalized?
