Top 20 sites for backlinking
-
My security jobs website was doing very well in Search engines until the penguin got hold of me. I don't profess to be at pro at SEO however seem to have a knack of getting sites to rank well. I think I made some basic mistakes with the original security jobs website, to many links to soon, so I have started again and will build up slowly the backlinks quality rather than quantity this time. My questions is what are the top 20 or so sites that are good to backlink from?

Hi Keri, i know - just habit
-
FYI, your keyword targeted link is a nofollow link, as are all hyperlinks in Q&A and blog comments on SEOmoz.
-
Think of it this way, strike up real relationships with people so that if a new update hits and all of your work is undone (doubtful) again you"ll have people who are in the same boat and will be there to work with you.
Major PR website's were devalued by Penguin anyway.

Nice answer, thanks for taking the time it is appreciated. So content is king I understand that so should I also consider submitting an article through PR Web etc?

Hi Sec Jobs,
"Top 20 sites" is a false dichotomy. Top 20 sites is not the "best of the best" but rather, what is best for you, in your location, in your industry.
So how would you go about link building in this way?
- Personally I would start blogging about the sate of security jobs in the UK.
- In order to obtain links, find security sites that have a blog in your industry, but who aren't direct competitors. and get to know the site's owner.
- After becoming chums, ask them if you can do a blog post on their site. In the blog post mention a couple of things visitors may want to check out on your site to help them, and link to those things.
That's pretty much it. content marketing is the thing. Add value and be an authority in your industry, so that when Google slaps down another penalty you'll be the one rising to the top, not getting penalized for "artificial" links.

@bnspak

Outreach for backlinks
What are some of the best ways to reach out for back links? The goal is to get a link from their website to our root or an anchored text but what are some techniques and options to consider to make it beneficial for both parties?

Links From Unrelated Sites
Ok, I know this has kind of been answered, but... I have a website that helps people find lawyers. I also have a lot of friends who are musiciansand singer songwriters. I could get these bands to link back to my page. Should I do this?

.edu backlinks.. where to point them for a scholarship
Hello, My company offers an annual college scholarship to Women in Business. I have numerous colleges that have agreed to post our scholarship on their college websites. I want to make sure I get the full value of the .edu backlink and need some advice. I have a brand new scholarship page with no authority and that's basically orphaned from the rest of the website. This page details the application process for the scholarship. If I were to link out to my home page, and say 3-4 other top landing pages, would this be the best way to flow some of that link juice into my site? Or is there a better way to do this? Another thought I had was this.... I could take one of my top landing pages, www.example.com/example, and place the scholarship information on that page at the bottom, and have the school link to this: www.example.com/example#scholarship (so the scholarship info appears on top when applicants click it)-- My question here is this... becase the second URL includes an anchor, does google treat that as a different page? Or would the pagerank flow to www.example.com/example ? Recovering from unnatural link warnings and algorthmic penalties and trying to get the best benefit out of the new, quality links I'm building. Any advise would be appreciated! THANKS!

When do backlinks start helping?
I have been working hard at getting quality backlinks but I had a lot of keywords slip in rankings this week. This may because I have been extremely busy for a week and haven't added a lot of content to my site. But I thought the backlinks would be helping. How long does it take backlinks to start boosting your site and what results should I see? I am focusing on getting backlinks from a site with a PR of 7. The others have a PR of 4-5. They are the BEST sites in my niche.

A backlinks question
Hi all Could do with a second opinion on this one if anyone has a moment please. Recent Google updates have targeted overally optimised backlink profiles as they are clearly for seo purposes and not natural. The question I have is how does this relate to an ecommerce website? If I sell 'blue 1980 aged cheese' (I know nothing about cheese so perhaps not the best example!!) and I have a url on my shop domain.com/store/blue-1980-aged-cheese with the product name as the page title along with the domain name. If I were to get backlinks pointing to this page using the anchor of 'blue 1980 aged cheese' (and other variations of that, blue cheese, aged blue cheese etc) would this be considered to be too optimised? Given the page is about this item then surely it could be considered natural that people link using the product name, as well as using the site name and the domain url Any thoughts please Thanks, Carl
