I've noticed that for some country top level domains (tld) the domain authority returned by open site explorer is based on the domain that has been registered within the tld.

For example, domainname.co.uk provides a domain authority specific to the domain.

However, for some other country top level domains, this does not appear to be the case.  Examples I have found include:

    domainname.co.nr

    domainname.co.pt

    domainname.co.ee

For these top level domains the domain authority seems to be the same for every domainname, seemingly implying the domain authority is for the top level domain itself rather than for the domain.

Is this a common situation for many country top level domains, so that what I see going in here is the tip of a large iceberg, or does this situation just apply to a very isolated set of country top level domains?

      Hey Michael,

Thanks for your patience. I've heard back from the engineers and it looks like like co.pt, co.nr, and co.ee are registrars and not official cctlds. Technically, those co.pt, co.nr, and co.ee would be considered root domains that sell hosting to "subdomains" such as blackjackonline or roleta, etc. Given this, we are actually presenting root domain info correctly.

We are planning on creating subdomain based metrics for pages like these to make the information more relevant to the site being researched in the future. I hope this clears things up a bit. Let me know if you have any other questions.

        Hi Michael,

Thanks for following up with these great examples! Unfortunately, it looks like you're right; our index is considering co.pt or co.nr to be the domain, rather than blackjackinline or roleta online (etc.).

I'm going to send this information to our engineers so we can work on getting this information corrected in the index. I'm afraid it may take some time to fix this issue and we most likely won't be able to resolve the problem for the current index. I'm really sorry about that!

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else in the meantime.

          Chiaryn,

So, I did a little more research on my own, and discovered that the top level domains I had found are not listed in the public suffix list at publicsuffix.org.  So at least I now know that this issue is perhaps related to that fact.  But still, I think it makes sense for you to know in your database of top level domains that these should be included since right now it does cause your domain authority ranks for domains registered in that form to be incorrect.  And it might be that you folks have the right connections to have the the public suffix list updated if you are a consumer of that list for your services.

          Michael.

            Hi Chiaryn,

Here are some example sites that look to me like they are being treated as subdomains rather than separate domains:

www.pokerbandits.co.nr and pokerscult.co.nr (domain authority of 84 - note that only one of these is in your index, but the domain authority is listed as the same for both sites)

blackjackonline.co.pt and www.casinoonline.co.pt and roleta.co.pt (domain authority 65 for all three)

            www.onlinecasinoreports.co.ee and www.pokerlistings.co.ee (both have a domain authority 60)

            Hope that helps.

            Michael

              Hi Michael,

Thanks for writing in with a great question. It would be really helpful if you could provide me with some specific examples of domains you are looking for the .co.nr, .co.pt, and .co.ee TLDs so I can look into this more directly. It will really help me investigate your question to have more specific examples.

If you aren't comfortable sharing the domain information here in the public forum, please let me know and I will create a private support email for you.

I look forward to hearing back soon.

              -Chiaryn

                Moz Domain Authority [Megathread]

                domain authority da

Hey Moz Community, We've noticed that there are questions about Domain Authority, what it is, and how to positively impact it. We're here to answer your questions! For a full overview, please see our help hub article here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority First, it's important to keep in mind that Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). It is not a Google ranking factor. Domain Authority scores range from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater likelihood of ranking. Since DA is based on machine learning calculations, your site's score will often fluctuate as more, fewer, or different data points become available and are incorporated into those calculations. For instance, if facebook.com were to acquire a billion new links, every other site’s DA would drop relative to Facebook’s. Because more established and authoritative domains like Facebook will have increasingly larger link profiles, they take up more of the high-DA slots, leaving less room at the higher end of the scale for other domains with less robust link profiles. Therefore, it's significantly easier to grow your score from 20 to 30 than it is to grow it from 70 to 80. For this reason, it’s important to use Domain Authority as a comparative metric rather than an absolute one. The best way to influence your DA is to improve your overall site health with a focus on the quality and quantity of external links pointing to your site. Check out this video for more details on how to impact DA Happy analyzing!

How long for authority to transfer form an old page to a new page via a 301 redirect? (& Moz PA score update?)

Hi How long aproximately does G take to pass authority via a 301 from an old page to its new replacement page ? Does Moz Page Authority reflect this in its score once G has passed it ? All Best

                Comparing Domain Authority Scores

Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores.  Can you give me a rule of thumb.  For PageRank,  each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses.   Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

What is the logarithmic scale used for domain authority?

I want to quantify how much better a score of 80 is compared to 60. Or 60 compared to 30 etc.... What is the logarithm base? Thanks, Rik

Why do some sites have a higher Page Authority than Domain Authority in OSE??

Hi, I have noticed when using OSE and enter a domain you very often see a higher Page Authority than Domain Authority. If someone could explain why this would happen then I would be very grateful - its my current understanding that page authority would ALWAYS be LESS THAN Domain Authority but that is not always the case (I have seen cases where PA is more than 10 higher then DA) Here's an example where PA > DA http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links.html?site=www.primelocation.com Thanks

How to check Page Authority in bulk?

Hey guys, I'm on the free trial for SEOmoz PRO and I'm in love. One question, though. I've been looking all over the internet for a way to check Page Authority in bulk. Is there a way to do this? Would I need the SEOmoz API? And what is the charge? All I really need is a way to check Page Authority in bulk--no extra bells and whistles. Thanks, Brandon
