Cool interactive games to teach link building
-
Hey looking to find some cool games to teach link building when doing a presentation to people who are new to link building and to make it fun.
Any ideas?
-
I'm thinking about a game which i bring in a string which represents all the traffic for a particular vertical (e.g. car insurance). And place it in the middle of the table. Then the people around it will get into groups of 4 (representing websites) and think of content/creative ideas or ways to bring that traffic to them (organic traffic)
What do you guys think?

Monopoly comes to mind.
You built your first link? Go directly to Google jail.
You built your second link? Pay poor tax of 50% of your traffic
If you are going to teach people, teach them NOT to "build" links and instead to earn links. The difference is not subtle.

Gosh, this is a somewhat crazy question, I have a few ideas, but it may help if you give us an idea of what you mean by link building? What techniques will you be using / teaching?
I am not really sure about a game, but you could easily make a lesson out of identifying link candidates for a given piece of content - something like.
- Site A has this piece of content which they want to rank for Keywords X, Y & Z.
- Currently the content has no external links but several similar pieces of content (and provide links) currently have many links
The 'game' would be to identify the links pointing to the similar content, find the social accounts of users who have posted those links using various tools and then to do some social outreach to build relationships with those users with the goal of eventually asking for a link.
Not 100% sure how you would build this into a game - it would really need some artificial content and link prospects to really work.
Hope that helps!
Marcus

When conducting a link building strategy does it matter the country the link is from?
We are a UK business and if we have links mostly from US based blogs and websites does this penalise us. The links are from relevant websites and topics. Should we be focusing on .co.uk sites

Should I build internal links to my homepage?
Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

Internal Linking - Post links vs Side Bar Links behaving differently
Hi, I have a question regarding the internal linking behavior. My website is www.hindimeaning.com which is approx 3 years old. I have approx 450 posts. Now i have a widget on right sidebar "Popular posts". A widget below my posts "Related Posts". And a simple html CSS menu above the posts (I removed menu around 6 month before so currently it will not show.) I crawled my site with moz crawler (same are the result from google crawler as well) and it shows menus links as internal links. While sidebar widget "Popular posts" and "Related Posts" are not showing as internal links. If we talk theoretically what i learn till now is "every link on a page behaves as internal link". Then why the widget links are not showing as internal links. Thanks, Mahesh Kumar

Link building with PDFs
I created a manual for a popular piece of equipment and placed it, as a PDF-file, on my website. The PDF contains a clickable link to the root domain of my website. Other websites have downloaded the PDF and put it on their own website, hosting it themselves. Since Google indexes PDFs, does the link in the PDF count as a regular 'link' from an external website, and does it have comparable value? Can't find any thoughts or studies about this anywhere.

Link Building Ideas?
Hi everyone, I am currently working on a site where people can buy mail-order bagels, i.e. the bagels are shipped via postal mail. It's a good alternative for places that have no good bagel stores nearby, especially in small, rural towns. I am about to launch a link-building campaign for the website, but am a little stuck as to where to begin. My first thought was guest posting, but it seems like the vast majority of food blog owners are very protective of their blogs and rarely, if ever, allow guest posts. I also thought about doing sponsored reviews (i.e. sending mommy bloggers free samples in exchange for a review), but that's essentially a paid link, i.e. a no-no. There are of course generic web directories, but those only get you so far, and article marketing is out of the question (too spammy). Was hoping I might be able to bounce off some ideas off of you all. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance for whatever tips/ideas you might be able to share 🙂 Lukas
