Does embedding Google map help local SEO?

Sorry to double post, but I went and looked and they also have one specifically for local business.

I think adding the map by itself couldn't hurt, but I would combine it with schema organization or business markup for the best results. You can specify where your physical location is with either of those two mentioned.

Thanks for sharing Matt - we did a similar test and found improved SERP results with a full address/G map on the contact page above the fold.

We've tested this a few ways.

Add map to the footer - seems to help somewhat. Not a big jump but definitely a boost.

Add map to the contact page along with the address - this helped the most in our testing.

Add map to any other page - no effect in our tests.
We tested 2 controls and 4 sites set each way = 14 total.
Of the 14, the 2 controls and the 2 "any other page" had very little improvement. The 8 on #1 and #2 had definite moves and so it does seem to affect the results. Putting the address on the page, along with an embedded G map was by far the best for us.

Google My Business for a Multi-Business Showroom
We are considering signing up for a multi-business showroom co-op concept in our area. Basically this space (1 address) has 10+ businesses that have their products represented at the location. There is one person working that passes along the leads to the individual companies when someone visits the showroom and shows interest in a product. I know at least 5 of the businesses are using this address for a Google My Business profile, and we would like to also. Started working with a company recently that had a Google My Business with an old address. I went ahead and claimed it and verified it with the postcard, but it still shows the old address if search. How long will that be?

Does Google Penalize for Hiding Address?
I have a situation where a client is working out of their home. I know that Google does not like when you list a business with a home address so we have hidden the address on Google, but are wondering if Google penalizes businesses for hiding it? When listing them to other directories we do our best to find ones that we can hide the first line of the address. But does that matter? Should we just be listing to our normal directories with the address visible? Does a mix of hidden addresses and visible ones hurt your rankings? Thanks in advance for your help!

What would Cause listing to fall off local search map spot?
Any reason a listing that was showing in Google between the 3 and 5 spot on local map search would suddenly disappear all together from the map position for a specific keyword?

PO Box for a Local Client
I have a local client who is adamant about not publishing their address anywhere online. They are a local (regional) company, and work out of their home. I advised that PO boxes do not fill within "accurate guidelines" for Google Places (and moving forward any citation building is going to be tough). Any way to get around this besides buying a generic mailbox that isn't a PO Box? They feel putting their home address anywhere leaves them vulnerable to people showing up at their home, and considering the industry they are in, it is possible this could lead to negative confrontations and I understand their concern. Any ideas for me?
