Quick Question: Is it Bad for SEO to paste from Word to your CMS?

Hey just a quick question I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer to:
Is the markup that is transferred from Word docs bad for SEO? We are managing to paste it and it looks fine, but the developers are worried that the extra code will be bad for SEO. Does anyone have solution besides pasting into Text Editor and formatting in the CMS? Is this necessary or can we just leave the extra code?

If you are using a great CMS, like DNN, you have the ability to paste as plain text. Then, style the html accordingly. If you dont, prepare to create a lot of junk code and span tags.

Yer it's best not to bloat your HTML with to many Spans etc just have the relevant HTML tags. Try the technique that Chris above mentioned.

Right now we're pasting from the Google Doc to CMS visual editor , and the above is what appears in the text editor. Are all of those and **tags going to be a problem? Or if it appears fine in the visual editor is it safe to leave it as is? We have a lot to paste in and it's already formatted in a Google Doc so i'm trying to save a lot of work. **

Give this a try: While you have your Word doc open, open a new document--but rather than opening a new Word doc, select File | New | Blog Post (and select "register later" if it asks you to open an online account). Then, copy from your word doc into the blog post, and then, copy and past from the blog post into your CMS. It should keep your formatting without all the additional Word coding bloat.

I would recommend pasting the Word text into the text editor built into the CMS unless it has a specific import from Word option like in Wordpress.
It can add random bits of text and code, it may not also wrap text in
tags so Google may not detect that paragraph of text, the same applies for headings such as
and
. You can still usually revert back to the visual editor after pasting the code into the text editor mode if you want to format it.

I am helping out a client with updating their website.

The theme they currently have hasn't been updated in ages (I am going to guess years). Would there be a difference in updating to the most recent version of their theme and changing them to a completely different theme? Or because they update in the current theme is so large anyway, it won't make a difference in terms of SEO. The reason I ask is that they don't know their Themeforest details to log in and download the most recent version of the theme, so they would have to re-purchase it, and with the hosting, they have access to a range of themes includes in their package. Is a One Page Website template bad for SEO?
I have a website of a freelancer who is using a One Page template which includes the following section About Him Portfolio Resume I also got 5 sperate pages which are related to the keywords he wants to rank for. Will this be sufficient or should I suggest him to go for a separate website template?

Schema question
Hi all, We have two Trustpilot schemas (Local Business) on our web pages ( One on desktop / one on mobile) but we are finding that it is not updating the number of reviews in the search results. When using the tool : https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/ , the test results are coming back ok. I have two ideas as to why it may not be working; 1) The duplication of the schema code is causing issues 2) We had to change the html code for all of our 50+ backend pages using a search&replace WordPress plugin to save a vast amount of time. Maybe this is plugin related? The fact that the google testing tool gives back positive results adds to the confusion. I test both of the theorised issues to see if it provides a fixes. Can anyone shed some further light on this issue? Is there something obvious I am missing? All responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tom p.s. How bad are 403 errors compared to 404s in regards to technical SEO?
Google Webmaster Tools reports "Access Denied" 403 errors. They also provide an explanation of what they mean at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2409441?ctx=MCE&ctx=AD&hl=en. What are the implications of these Access Denied errors? Should they be 301 redirected internally?

SEO Strategy for Microsite
I am working on a project to build a microsite of sorts that will represent a joint program between two large organizations with established web presences and strong domains. Each of the organizations has dedicated sections on their sites speaking to the program, but the leadership has decided the joint program deserves it's own site with dedicated content. The two larger sites perform very well for SEO, and I don't necessarily want to jeopordize thir rankings by delivering content that competes directly with them. So I am doing some keyword research to find some opportunities that will alllow me to use the new site to target keywords not yet being captialized by the larger sites. My grand scheme is to have the three sites targeting the broadest array of keywords possible, thus maximizing exposure and avoiding competition. Here is the rub: the content between the three sites will be different but very similar, and there will be plenty of cross linking, especially from the existing sites to the new site, as we grow the brand of the joint program. I'm curious to here some expert opinions on what the puitfalls of the strategy are and what are some of the things I can do to avoid falling in the black hat category - I recognize that proliferating sites around a single topic and cross linking them is black hat. The organizations simply want to build a brand around a joint program and we are striggling to do that without a dedicated website.

Adwords Policy and SEO
I have a customer who runs campaigns on adwords and we have had real problems with his ads being taken down due to certain ingredients being present in supplements. Now we move towards his SEO campaign and we wondered if the natural listings are effected by sites that list banned substances or pages listed on the adwords policy as being banned ? Has anyone experienced a site being downgraded by link being present from sites that provided products or services that are banned from being advertised on Google adwords ?
