Is having a .uk.com domain a hindrance for long-term SEO?

I know there has been some mention on Moz Q&A for .uk.com, but not for at least 3 years. So I wanted to see if any Mozzers out there knew if having a .uk.com domain would hinder our SEO long-term?
Our company is finally now taking SEO seriously and we're planning some great stuff for the year ahead, but I have a feeling that our .uk.com domain may prevent us from out-ranking some of the bigger companies out there.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this out there?

You're asking a slightly different question than what was answered but let me clear it up 100% for you:
Yes, you're on a subdomain.  Yes, that's not generally ideal if you're trying to rank company.com and you also want blog.company.com  You would instead want company.com/blog (in most cases.)
However, you're on a fresh subdomain, as your main URL. That will work just fine.
In fact, the last time I downloaded the Majestic Million there were over 170,000 of the top 1M on subdomains.
Some famous subdomains you may know:
- maps.google.com
- itunes.apple.com
- get.adobe.com
- online.wsj.com
- news.yahoo.com
- abcnews.go.com
- money.cnn.com
Hope that helps! Â I wouldn't worry much about it if you're happy with the uk.com address.

A sub-domain acts like a normal domain, the problem you may find is people looking for your brand etc. so if they type out the URL and go to our company.com which could lead them to a different site etc. So in short you can still rank it fine though its perhaps a bit more complex, I would look at it from a user point of view and a branding perspective and go from there.
Personally I may agree with you on moving to a .co.uk (assuming you are aiming at UK markets) just so its not on a subdomain and its a bit easier to brand etc. but SEO wise its still possible to rank uk.com

Ok, that's good to know. Though we have .uk.com not .uk - e.g. OurCompany.uk.com
My concern is that we are essentially on a sub domain of .uk.com - is this still not a problem? Or would we be beneficial to move to OurCompany.com / OurCompany.uk etc etc..

in short no.
new TLDS can rank just as well as any other TLD and the .uk is treated essentially the same as .co.uk so as long as you're doing good SEO you shouldn't find it hinders you.

Move domain to new domain, for how much time should I keep forwarding?
I'm not sure but my website looks like is not getting it's juice as supposed to be. As we already know, google preferred https sites and this is what happened to mine, it was been crawling as https but when the time came to move my domain to new domain, I used 301 or domain forwarding service, unfortunately they didn't have a way to forward from https to new https, they only had regular http to https, when users clicked to my old domain from google search my site was returned to "site does not exist", I used hreflang at least that google would detect my new domain been forwarding and yes it worked but now I'm wondering, for how much time should I keep the forwarding the old domain to the new one, my site looks like is not going up, I have changed all the external links, any help would be appreciated. Does having a different sub domain for your Landing Page and Blog affect your overall SEO benefits and Ranking?
We have a domain www.spintadigital.com that is hosted with dreamhost and we also have a seperate subdomain blog.spintadigital.com which is hosted in the Ghost platform and we are also using Unbounce landing pages with the sub domain get.spintadigital.com. I wanted to know whether having subdomain like this would affect the traffic metric and ineffect affect the SEO and Rankings of our site. Â I think it does not affect the increase in domain authority, but in places like similar web i get different traffic metrics for the different domains. Â As far as i can see in many of the metrics these are considered as seperate websites. Â We are currently concentrating more on our blogs and wanted to make sure that it does help in the overall domain. We do not have the bandwidth to promote three different websites, and hence need the community's help to understand what is the best option to take this forward.

Onsite SEO vs Offsite SEO
Hey I know the importance of both onsite & offsite, primarily with regard to outreach/content/social. One thing I am trying to determine at the moment, is how much do I invest in offsite. My current focus is to improve our onpage content on product pages, which is taking some time as we have a small team. But I also know our backlinks need to improve. I'm just struggling on where to spend my time. Finish the onsite stuff by section first, or try to do a bit of both onsite/offsite at the same time?

Changing from .com to .com.au
Hi All, we are looking for some guidance please, if at all possible. We have .com domain (the domain is older than 10 years), we have been using it for 2 years. We also have .com.au version of the domain (the domain is 2 years old, pointing to the .com domain) and isn't being used. We are an Australian based company. Our question is, should we be using .com.au instead of .com and if so, how would you advise going about doing the change over without having huge SEO impact on our business (negatively). We are on the home page for most of the searches we have optimized for, but we are always below the .com.au's - which is why we are considering the possibility of the move? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated 🙂

Combine .com and .co.uk domain? So forward .co.uk to .com for SEO?
Hello, A new client of mine has an .com and an .co.uk domain. Both the same content (and they don't have the capacity to make specific content on both domains). I am thinking building al domain authority to 1 domain. In this case the .com domain.Â

In this way, the .com will rank in both UK as in other English speaking countries, right? Or not?
Or should I use the  rel="alternate" hreflang="x" tag? I am not sure. But I do know big brands rank high in the Netherlands with .com domains (for example booking.com). Looking forward on feedback on best practices here... Thanks!0 -
Domain Forwarding - SEO Impacts?
I have a site that has been active for years - thinkbiglearnsmart.com. Awhile ago I had purchased about 50 domain names that were relevant to my company. I still have those urls and would like to use them to point to different pages on my site - just because they have good key words in the URLs. For example - one is dreamweavertrainingclassesonlinelive.com. Â Currently they are all redirecting to my homepage. A. is that hurting me? B. I would like to redirect to the more relevant page. ie the page dedicated to Dreamweaver training (http://thinkbiglearnsmart.com/dreamweaver-creative-cloud-training-course/Â ) Will this hurt my Dreamweaver keyword for example because there is already a 301 redirect on that page from a very old Dreamweaver link which was something like thinkbiglearnsmart.com/dreamweaver C. On my hosting account where I can select where the URL forwards to - it has an option for "Location forwarding" and "Frame forwarding" - currently they are set to Frame forwarding - which one is best? Any help is much appreciated!!! Thank you!

How long does a new domain need to get a specific level of trust?
We are a small start-up in germany in the Sports and health sector. We currently are building a network of people in that sector and give each person a seperate wordpress blog. The idea is to create a big network of experts. My question is: How long is the period for google to trust a completely new URL? We set up each project and create content on the page. Each week the owner of the site puts up an expert article that contain keywords. And we set certain links from other blogs, etc. Also, do you think it is more important for a site to get say, 20 backlinks from anywhere. Or 5 backlinks from very trusted blogs, etc.?
