DMOZ Directory Impact on Rankings
-
For about 5-10 years ago many SEOers said that it is in particular important to be in Dmoz. What about nowadays?
Moreover is it still working and accepting new projects. I suggested several of my projects but no news from them -
Not so much anymore as others have said...plus, we track heavily our inbound traffic and honestly, it's been YEARS since I ever noticed a DMOZ referral for any of our clients...
Might have been a real prize...but not so much anymore, eh!

I have been trying to get my site into DMOZ for 15 years, without results! No idea why it is so difficult to get in, I always made sure that I followed their guidelines. My competitors have made it in, but it has been a no-go for me..

The problem with asking SEOs about DMOZ is it used to be VERY valuable. Now it's not.
But it does still retain some value. Consider a $500 per share stock that falls to $50 per share. It's going to feel practically worthless but it still has more value than MSFT stock ($43 a share today.)
So the relative value is "massive decline, don't recommend" but the true value is probably "it has some value, is easy to create, but may never go live. It's 20% a $50 share and 80% a $0 never-goes-live share.
Whether that's worth your time is up to you.

Yes, dmoz is still accepting listings. It is a large, human-edited directory and submissions can take a very long time to process, depending on your area. They also don't accept all sites. As far as value, it is certainly not the golden ticket it once was and the general consensus probably is that it has little or no impact. That being said, it's not that difficult to submit a site and it wouldn't hurt to be accepted.

Does no-indexed page has an impact on bounce rate
my question is: I have a page that contains some external links, I know when visitors click on them and leave my site it hurts my bounce rate, But I have a solution for that, I am using external link redirection code, with this code after users clicking on external links they are not leaving my site and first went to some link like this: "http://mysite.com/redirect/https://externalsite.com/" and after 10 seconds they redirect to the external site, I make this redirect page noindex and nofollow. but the question is does this noindex page can decrease my page bounce rate because users don't leave my site and first go to another page of my site. but I don't know does no-indexed page has an impact on bounce rate or my struggle is worthless

Need advice: How to replace a high-ranking pdf with a landing page -- without dropping much in rank?
Hi! We have a pdf of a white paper on our site that ranks #1 for a niche term. We are now exploring the idea of building a landing page for this paper with an overview (2-3 paragraphs) and a registration form for interested parties to fill out in order to access the paper. Do you think there'd be any hope of ensuring the new landing page would rank almost as well eventually (top 3)? I'm thinking a key consideration would be preserving the link juice from the existing links that are coming into the pdf, and that 301 redirecting the pdf URL to the new landing page URL could help with that. Am I right? Or would it be better to try to reach out to the linking sites and ask them to update their links (seems daunting). Any advice/opinions on this situation would be appreciated. (If folks think that there would be a significant risk of permanently dropping out of the top 5 by attempting this, we would likely choose to leave the pdf ungated as is.) Thanks!! -John

This directory looks great - would you agree?
I know people have mixed feelings towards submitting their sites to directories, but this one really seemed special, so I decided to share the opportunity with the Moz community, as well as open up a discussion on the value of being a part of this directory (and similar ones.) We recently submitted our site to Dial a Human (www.dialahuman.com) It is a directory of companies' phone numbers, which go directly to a person (bypassing the machines.) I think this directory actually does provide users with value, and is far from your typical link farm. The Page Authority is 56 and the Domain Authority is 47, and it is a PR5 site. The other companies listed are all extremely reputable (most of them are fortune 500 companies.) The fee to join is $75-$150, but to be included with this group of companies, we felt it was very worthwhile. We would join this type of directory over and over again. Would you? If you have any other directories which are of the same caliber please share!

Similar sites like dmoz.org?
Hi. I've added my site to dmoz.org 3-4 months ago or something. Still not accepted (surprise..) Anyway, i was wondering if there is any other sites like dmoz.org i can add my site to? (Free sites, not interested in the countless "pay for express listing"-sites).

DMOZ submission
Has anyone had any experience submitting to DMOZ and waiting times. The category i've submitted to has only a few links (http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/London/Westminster/Arts_and_Entertainment/) Yet I submitted the site (www.capitalalist.com) over a month ago! Can anyone give examples of waiting times, or a way to perhaps get some feedback from DMOZ? Thanks in advance as always...

Link Directories - Good or bad?
I've just done a search on open site explorer for a competitors site that has is ranked number one. Most of their highest authority backlinks are from link directories. I just read an article on here saying to stay away from directories that state things like 'seo friendly directory'. Many of my competitors links are from these kind of sites! Will it harm me to get links from such sites? It seems to be working for my competitors.... confused.com!
