Can you track two Google Analytics Accounts on one site?
-
If you have a site that had an old analytics account and then implemented a new one is it possible to run tracking code that records to both accounts without causing your site or data issues?
We are doing this so we don't loose data at any point - ideally it wouldn't have been split between the two but making one redundant isn't an option.
Ideally we would have merged the data from both accounts and had one - however the research we have done points to this not being a possibility - unless one of you guys knows different?
It would be great if anyone has experience on any this..
Thanks

Hi Chrissy
I did see the reply thanks for the reminder - unfortunately it didn't solve the problem so I will keep digging although it appears that what I want to do may not be possible with GA.
Thanks
Chris

Hi King
Thanks for the help - unfortunately it appears that you can't share between analytics - the sharing settings are focused around other Google products such as importing GA data to Adwords.
It is possible to have custom analytics code according to Google that will record data to the two profiles - so this is a work round although not ideal as there will still be a gap in both accounts for the different periods they were solely running....
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris, did you see King's most recent response?
-
Hi Chris,
Since its only been a couple of months, I wouldn't keep both going for long term. With that said, I found this on Google
"The Google Analytics data sharing settings let you share your account data with other products and services. Learn more about data sharing" - https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1009704?hl=en
Have you tried sharing data from the new account so you only have to use the old account?
-
Hi King
I understand why it seems strange - however the scenario is that this site I am working on had one analytics account for several years and then was redeveloped several months ago. The developer added an new analytics account rather than the old. Now there is a scenario where you have two analytics accounts with data in them - the ideal situation would be where we could simply merge the two accounts not loosing the data and making one property. However this doesn't appear possible from the research I have carried out.
As such in order to not lose data contained in either we want to start recording data to both - I believe it is possible to run two accounts with a modification to the tracking code. I possed the question on here to see if anyone else had come across this scenario and wondered what they had done.
For now lets take it that we can't progress with one analytics account (unless someone can tell me how to successfully merge them).
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my original post and thank you for your response.

Hi Chris,
This is interesting because I've never heard of anyone creating a new analytics account to track the same site, when the old one was doing just fine, let alone use both on the same site.
Let's try to figure out what your goals are, so that might help shed some light to what you're trying to accomplish.
If you already had tracking codes, why did you create a new one for the same site? If it was just a matter of using an old version of the tracking code, you can just update the existing tracking code by replacing it with the new one and you won't lose any data.
Can you explain what your goals are so I can see if I can help you?
Thanks!

Two long established sites with similar audiences, what do we do?
Hi guys, We operate two long established and reasonably well ranking sites — our company website which was built on a keyword domain: market-stalls.co.uk (approx 15 years online) and our online store which was established several years later on a different domain: tradersupplies.co.uk (approx 9 years online). (At the bottom of this post I've attached real world traffic and turnover figures that demonstrate the issue we're facing) The problem is... The above sites target very similar audiences and keywords and both rank fairly well but I know are likely competing against eachother We're a small company (8-10 employees) and we (or rather, I) don't have the time or resources to blog, build back links, manage opseo and all the social channels etc for both sites. I'm struggling to cope with one. The question is... Do we abandon the original company site (market-stalls.co.uk) in favour of pooling all our resource in to improving rankings for our online store (tradersupplies.co.uk). All our social media presence relates to tradersupplies.co.uk. We don't have any social channels for market-stalls.co.uk. Ironically, the only blog we have is established on market-stalls.co.uk — set up a couple of years ago in the hope to pull ourselves back up the rankings — but it hasn't been updated in over a year due to time restraints. Or do we attempt to keep both sites operational, despite a lack of resource? That would likely include a fairly sizeable overhaul of market-stalls.co.uk to bring it up to date with modern design standards, establishing social media channels for market-stalls.co.uk, creating a blog on tradersupplies.co.uk, and regularly updating two blogs and two sets of social media channels with unique content. Sounds like a pretty huge job right!? Obviously, had we been setting up our business in 2017 and having read the many community posts on the subject of multiple websites, we wouldn't be splitting our time between two websites and would be focussing solely on building one highly ranking site. But unfortunately we're not in this position and we're in a quandary because we don't know whether or not we should let our original, highly ranking company site drop off the radar in favour of focussing on building traffic to our online store. This situation arose out of a decision to establish our online store on a different domain to our company website. Back in 2007 I rebuilt market-stalls.co.uk and spent a lot of time optimising it. The site blew up and we were ranking very well for all kinds of keywords related to market stalls In 2009 we opened our online store tradersupplies.co.uk which sells all of the products advertised on market-stalls.co.uk and then some By using "buy now" buttons on market-stalls.co.uk which redirected to tradersupplies.co.uk, our original site was driving a large amount of traffic and sales to tradersupplies.co.uk. At it's peak it was driving almost £6,000 GBP a month in sales. This has since dropped to around a third/quarter of this total. As the business grew we began to run short of time to maintain market-stalls.co.uk and it has inevitably slipped down the rankings This has also had a direct impact on the referral traffic and resulting sales on tradersupplies.co.uk. I've attached below the analytics which show the drop in referral traffic to tradersupplies.co.uk and the drop off in sales. I have a feeling I know the answer to this debacle but I'm keen to hear the opinions of those that may have found themselves in this position before! UPDATE: I've just had a call with our Magento developer halfway through writing this post ... he has suggested we transfer all content from market-stalls.co.uk over to CMS pages on our Magento powered online store, and create 301 redirects. Apparently this will carry the weight of market-stalls.co.uk over to tradersupplies.co.uk. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? turnover.jpg

Keeping Google Analytics Data when Moving to Subdomain
Hey All, Against my objections a client has decided to move an existing site into a subdomain while putting up a new site on the main domain. My question revolves around Google Analytics, how do I make sure that I don't lose historical data on the domain before it moves to a subdomain? We're going to be doing a redesign of the old site and I need to keep the historical data so I can prioritize content. What do I need to do? Or will Google analytics recognize the URL's and still attribute the data to those URL's or will I have a separate set of data based on the new URL (with the subdomain). Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

How can I use Google Analytics to detect users viewing my website on a TV?
I want to see in Google Analytics whether or not people are viewing my website on a TV, such as with a smart TV or other device connected to their TV. These are the only ways to do this that I have found so far: Operating system: Google TV, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox Browser: Nintendo Browser, Playstation 3 Are there other data points that I can reliably use to segment these users?

Google Analytics/ Contact 7 Plugin
I have a site that uses the contact 7 plugin for its contact form sitewide in a sidebar and on a contact us page. I've set up a goal in analytics and tracked using the "on_sent_ok" hook but the number of goals GA is creating is far outweighing the number of times the form is actually completed. I figured my initial mistake was to use the contact-us page as the page tracker variable for the goal but wondered if it was counting all form completions AND anyone who went to the contact page. So I amended it to a contact-us/thank-you page that no site visitor could navigate to, and since I have no goals completed, even though we're getting enquiries through the form. Am I being dumb here and missing something quite simple?
