How to remove broken links from our wordpress site?
-
Hello! How are you? We just signed up to Moz.com. Moz link tool. It gave us many broken links with 404's and 302's. Could you please help me with deleting the links? Thanks!
-
Well the keyword checker device is down, I could additionally endorse gear that you might want to find a tutor to test out: Open Site Explorer and their new Twitter tool FollowerWonk.

Hi Sean
This looks like you got spammed or hacked - do not redirect these links. Did you guys have a SEO team at any point that was buying links?
I would actually look into these:
Link Audit Guide for Effective Link Removals & Risk Mitigation
A More Robust Process for Dealing with Link Removal RequestsI would also look into disavowing backlinks. This could be a potentially big issue for you and your site.
Do you have a Webmaster Tools account? I would pull your top links and also check and see if you have a Manual Action at all. Also, check out this Wordpress resource on hacked sites.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Good luck!

Looks like you've been hacked then,
You'll need to clean out your code and content and make sure wordpress and all of its plugins are the latest version. Unfortunatly there is no 'Safe' way to recover from this without reverting to a backup from before the hack.

EDIT::
I deleted my other response because i fail at reading :P, sorry about that -
Hello Ikkie,
how are you? I have already used broken link checker. It does help identifying some of the broken links, and deleting them. My speculation is the template that the website is on, was used for another website before. I have a feeling that some of those links were imported to the site.

you can also check with this site http://www.wpexplorer.com/how-to-remove-broken-links/
it may help you to understand the procedure for removing the links.
-
The first thing I would do is look at the main menu as is is broken giving you lots of 404's.
training-courses/ and all the ?active variations

What Patrick Delehanty has said is completely correct. You need to edit your pages, menu's etc in order to remove or fix the links that have 404's if they are part of your website.
If the links are external websites linking to you, you need to setup redirects in your .htaccess file for them. The later is considerably more technical so if your not confident with it, ask your developer to do it for you.
If your not sure which it is, could you provide is with an example of a link that shows as a 404?
You can also use Xenu to check the links on your site (not the ones linking to it), i find it works better than the Broken Link Checker plugin.

Hi Sean
I am a bit confused - are you saying that you are finding links on your website that are 404 and 302ing?
If so, my information above still stands.
However, if you are saying that you are finding links pointing TO your site from other websites, then you will need to conduct a backlink audit and research which links you want to remove and links you will want to keep and therefore correct - meaning you will have to reach out to websites and ask them to edit the links pointing to your website.
Does that make sense? Hope this helps! Good luck!
-
Hello Patrick,
Yes! I am wordpress admin panel, but some of these links are deletable. I was assuming, that they would be back links. Especially with 404s. Thanks again!
-
Hi Sean
You will have to go to each page and change the links if they are in content. Do you have access to your website and editing capabilities?
-
our site is http://ablesafety.com/. There are like 260 broken links. I have already downloaded the excel sheet. But how will edit manually and delete the link. I used a wordpress pluing that called Broken Link Checker. But it is not effective. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
-
Hi Sean
You will have to manually go in and remove or change these links in Wordpress.
Download the list from Moz, create a spreadsheet of the URLs with the anchor text of the links, and create a column for if they are completed or not.
Here are resources on internal and external links - make sure your links are pointing to live and relevant pages; if they aren't, change them or remove them. If they are redirecting, simply correct the link.
You will also want to make sure your XML sitemap is up to date in case crawls are finding errors that are not link related.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Tumblr and Link Equity
Hi Moz Community, I've recently decided to start a project where I gather 1,000 great examples of something that's searched for often, and am thinking that posting it to a Tumblr site like the following website did could be a great way to pass link equity back to my main site (with a little "site by [my site]" somewhere in the header or footer). While I was super pumped about this idea today, and have now gathered almost 500 of my examples (mentioned above), I am not seeing link equity passed from this site, even on the non-redirected links here: http://gothamlogos.tumblr.com/ Anyone have any experience with projects like this? I've checked read the Moz Tumblr and SEO article from a few years ago, which makes it seem like this should be an SEO "win"... But using the Moz Pro account tools, I'm not seeing any of these non-redirect links (ordinary links) giving any value to anyone on this example site. Thanks so much in advance, Zack

Whether or not to remove a link from a website with high spam score on Open Site Explorer
Hello Moz! I just subscribed for your Moz Pro program. Amazing stuff! On open site explorer, I found a number of links to my site from a page called with a very high page authority and high domain authority, but also a high spam score (8 or 9, one with a 10). I say multiple spam scores, because it's strange, there are what appears variations of the same url, and each one is considered a link. For instance, there's an abc.linkstomysite.com and xyz.linktomysite.com, and 123.linktomysite.com... there are about 15 of these (all with the spam scores mentioned above)! This must have been some old SEO work done I payed for back in the prehistoric SEO days. However, my fear is the following: Removing these links, and then losing some potentially strong link juice. I don't have many high DA or PA links to my site, and these are some major ones. The domain in question "linktomysite.com", when entered into OSE, only has a spam score of 4, and it has a domain authority of 45 and page authority of 37. My site has a spam score of 2 and no messages from google regarding a penalty, but an overall reduction in google traffic over the years (just keeps slowly dropping... as if a weight is pulling me down?) What do you think, should I leave, or remove? The linkstomysite page is just a LONG page full of links, with short descriptions, nothing of value, but with a an old domain age (relatively). Most important for me is keeping at least some ranking/visibility, while I personally work on building quality links and helpful content. thanks!

How do Infographics provide links? (example inside)
Hi, I don't get it...
Moz Pro | | BeytzNet
I've encountered the following infographic that seemed to do well: http://www.brilliance.com/4cs-of-diamonds-infograph As you can see, the page has thousands of social shares from Tweets to Facebook and obviously Pinterest. However, when I placed this page on Open Site Explorer (click to view) I see only 9 external links and page authority of 28/100. And this seems to me like a successful infographic. Any explanations? Thanks0 -
Why are inbound links not showing?
I run the site http://www.eurocheapo.com and am finding that many inbound links are not showing up in OSE and on the toolbar. For example, check out this hotel review: http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hotel/hotel-esmeralda.html In OSE it shows only 2 links (from 1 domain), which is crazy. It has dozens of inbound links from many different domains (links:http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/hotel/hotel-esmeralda.html). I notice this all over my site. Pages that we link between are also showing no internal links -- which is easy to disprove. Was there a problem with this crawl? Or is the problem in our code? Many thanks for your help, Tom

What do you use for site audit
What tools do you use for conducting a site audit? I need to do an audit on a site and the seomoz web crawler and on page optimization will takes days if not a full week to return any results. In past Ive used other tools that I could run on the fly and they would return broken links, missing htags, keyword density, server information and more. Curious as to what you all use and what you may recommend to use in conjunction with the moz tools.

How can a site have a backlink from Barclays website?
Hi, I have entered a competitiors website www.my-wardrobe.com into Open Site to see who they get links from and to my surprise they have a load from Barclays Business Banking. When I visit the page I can not see the links. But if I search the pages source code for my-wardrobe, there I have it, a link to my-wardrobe.com. How have they done this? Surely Barclays haven't sold them it? And more so, why are they receiving link juice when you cant even see the link on the Barclays page in question - http://www.barclays.co.uk/BusinessBanking/P1242557952664 Thanks | |

How can I reduce the number of links on a page and keep the site easy to navigate?
The SEOmoz Site Crawl indicates that we have too many on page links on over 9,970 pages. This is an ecommerce site with a large number of categories. I have a couple of questions regarding this issue: How important is the "too many on page links" factor to SEO? What are some methods of reducing the number of links when there are a large number of categories? We have main categories with dropdown menus currently and have found that they are used to browse and shop the store.
