i've to give some information about my website Environment

      1. i have static webpage in the root.

      2. Wordpress installed in sub-dictionary www.domain.com/blog/

      3. I have two .htaccess , one in the root and one in the wordpress
      folder.

      i want to

      • www to non on all URLs
      • Remove index.html from url
      • Remove all .html extension / Re-direct 301 to url
        without .html extension
      • Add trailing slash to the static webpages / Re-direct 301 from non-trailing slash
      • Force trailing slash to the Wordpress Webpages / Re-direct 301 from non-trailing slash

      Some examples

      domain.tld/index.html >> domain.tld/

      domain.tld/file.html >> domain.tld/file/

      domain.tld/file.html/ >> domain.tld/file/

      domain.tld/wordpress/post-name >> domain.tld/wordpress/post-name/

My code in ROOT htaccess is

      <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews

      RewriteEngine On
      RewriteBase /

      #removing trailing slash
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
      RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ $1 [R=301,L]

      #www to non
      RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(([a-z0-9_]+.)?domain.com)$ [NC]
      RewriteRule .? http://%1%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]

      #html
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
      RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
      RewriteRule ^([^.]+)$ $1.html [NC,L]

      #index redirect
      RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index.html\ HTTP/
      RewriteRule ^index.html$ http://domain.com/ [R=301,L]
      RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} .html
      RewriteRule ^(.*).html$ /$1 [R=301,L]</ifmodule>

      The above code do

      1. redirect www to non-www
      2. Remove trailing slash at the end (if exists)
      3. Remove index.html
      4. Remove all .html
      5. Redirect 301 to filename but doesn't add trailing slash at the end

          Hi Tom,

          thanks for your reply.

          i have some problems

          the above code doesn't

1 - Add trailing slash to the static webpages / Re-direct 301 from non-trailing slash

so it should be http://ghadaalsaman.com/articles/ instead of http://ghadaalsaman.com/articles

2 - Force trailing slash to the Wordpress Webpages / Re-direct 301 from non-trailing slash

            Hey NeatIT!

I see you have a working solution there. Did you have a specific question about the setup?

I did notice that your setup cane sometimes result in chaining 301 redirects, which is one area for possible improvement.

Let me know how we can help! 🙂

Removing the Trailing Slash in Magento

Hi guys, We have noticed trailing slash vs non-trailing slash duplication on one of our sites. Example:
              Duplicate: https://www.example.com.au/living/
Preferred: https://www.example.com.au/living So, SEO-wise, we suggested placing a canonical tag on all trailing slash pointing to non-trailing slash. However, devs have advised against removing the trailing slash from some URLs with a blanket rule, as this may break functionality in Magento that depends on the trailing slash. The full site would need to be tested after implementing a blanket rewrite rule. Is any other way to address this trailing slash duplication issue without breaking anything in Magento? Keen to hear from you guys. Cheers,

Does rewriting a URL affect the page authority?

Hi all, I recently optimized an overview page for a car rental website. Because the page didn’t rank very well, I rewrote the URL, putting the exact keyword combination in it. Then I asked Google to re-crawl the URL through Search Console. This afternoon, I checked Open Site Explorer and saw that the Page Authority had decreased to 1, while the subpages still have an authority of about 18-20. Hence my question: is rewriting a URL a bad idea for SEO? Thank you,
              Lise

Duplicate Content www vs. non-www and best practices

I have a customer who had prior help on his website and I noticed a 301 redirect in his .htaccess Rule for duplicate content removal : www.domain.com vs domain.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com/$1 [R=301,L,NC] The result of this rule is that i type MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com in the browser and it redirects to www.MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com I wonder if this is causing issues in SERPS.  If I have some inbound links pointing to www.MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com and some pointing to MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com, I would think that this rewrite isn't necessary as it would seem that Googlebot is smart enough to know that these aren't two sites. -----Can you comment on whether this is a best practice for all domains?
-----I've run a report for backlinks.  If my thought is true that there are some pointing to www.www.MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com and some to the www.MY-CUSTOMER-SITE.com, is there any value in addressing this?

Best practice for removing indexed internal search pages from Google?

Hi Mozzers I know that it’s best practice to block Google from indexing internal search pages, but what’s best practice when “the damage is done”? I have a project where a substantial part of our visitors and income lands on an internal search page, because Google has indexed them (about 3 %). I would like to block Google from indexing the search pages via the meta noindex, follow tag because: Google Guidelines: “Use robots.txt to prevent crawling of search results pages or other auto-generated pages that don't add much value for users coming from search engines.” http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769 Bad user experience The search pages are (probably) stealing rankings from our real landing pages Webmaster Notification: “Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site” with links to our internal search results I want to use the meta tag to keep the link juice flowing. Do you recommend using the robots.txt instead? If yes, why? Should we just go dark on the internal search pages, or how shall we proceed with blocking them? I’m looking forward to your answer! Edit: Google have currently indexed several million of our internal search pages.

Changing a url from .html to .com

Hello, I have a client that has a site with a .html plugin and I have read that its best to not have this. We currently have pages ranking with this .html plug in. However If we take the plug in out will we lose rankings? would we need a 301 or something?

              Removing dashes in our URLs?

Hi Forum, Our site has an errant product review module that is resulting in about 9-10 404 errors per day on Google Webmaster Tools. We've found that by changing our product page URLs to only include 2 dashes, the module stops causing 404 errors for that page. Does changing our URL from "oursite.com/girls-pink-yoga-capri.html" to "oursite.com/girlspink-yoga-capri.html" hurt our SEO for a search for "girls pink yoga capri"? If so, by how much (assuming everthing else on the page is optimized properly) Thanks for your input.

Can a XML sitemap index point to other sitemaps indexes?

We have a massive site that is having some issue being fully crawled due to some of our site architecture and linking. Is it possible to have a XML sitemap index point to other sitemap indexes rather than standalone XML sitemaps? Has anyone done this successfully? Based upon the description here: http://sitemaps.org/protocol.php#index it seems like it should be possible. Thanks in advance for your help!
