What are the most Important Local Business Directories for SEO
-
Thanks for any help on this,
I wanted to know what are the most Important Local Business Directories for SEO? I have come a crossed a few sites that list tons of directories, but I wanted to know if anyone here is a top list.
Also can it hurt to be on to many?

Hey Amber,
Great info on this, yeah I would like to focus on the quality of their listing. Thanks for the help on this.

Hi Robert,
I am going to give you a few resources I turned to when I first began citation building.
http://getlisted.org/resources/local_search_ecosystem.pdf
http://getlisted.org/resources/local-citations-by-category.aspx
http://getlisted.org/resources/local-citations-by-city.aspx
http://www.seomoz.org/directories/local
From these I create a "Top List" based on my client and their situation.
Also, I think once you dive in to this process you will find your focus shifts from "how many of these can I get my client on?!!!" to making sure the quality of your existing listings and directories is high.
All the Best,
Amber

Thanks Mike and Bryan, that was a big help, I'll read over the sites you listed. Thanks for the info.

I would look at a few sources.
Yext.com has free power listings where you can find inconsistancies and new directories to submit your site to.
Getlisted.org has some listings
whitespark has a free and paid tool to help you find some. (They also offer an plan for local citations $5 each)
SEOmoz also has a chart of directories: http://www.seomoz.org/directories
Keep in mind to only submit to relevant categories.

Hi Robert,
GetListed.org is probably the best. It not only tells you which directories to get listed in, it also verifies when your business has been listed.
The directories on GetListed.org are great, then any other industry specific or local business directories you can get into will make complete sense to Google when crawling. It starts to become a sketchy area when you start adding your website to random or generic directories... some are OK, you just don't want to over do it in the generic ones.
Hope this helps.
Mike

Can Google shopping listings affect SEO rankings?
Hello everyone. Here is my question: Until 4 weeks ago we used to have just around 2,000 product/pages on Google shopping of our product pages, then we added over 40,000 more items/pages to it, and our Google natural search rankings dropped on most of our long-tail keywords pointing to the same product pages. Do you think that's just coincidence or could the number of products/pages on Google shopping affect natural search results?

Why would a business want to cap their Adwords budget?
If a business has an unlimited supply of product and an unlimited capacity to distribute that product why would they want to limit their Adwords campaign budget? If your Cost per Acquisition for a conversion is lower than the Customer Lifetime Value for any given keyword bid, why would you want to prevent your campaign from reaching as many people as possible? Thanks in advance Danny

Importing Analytic goals into Adwords
My company is in the process of updating how we track conversions in Adwords and Analytics. One prgrammer suggested importing Analytic goals into the Adwords account. I am extremely hesitant to do that because I know that Analytics and Adwords don't always play nicely together. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) around this. Pros and cons? Should I keep the tracking separate? Also, FYI, our flow does not employ the traditional "thank you page" conversion model. We have java scripts and onload events that fire when goals are triggered. I am not a programmer so I am a little out of the loop on how it all works. All I know is that I want conversions/goals to be attributed to the correct channel. Help me mozzers!

What Cities from Around the World are Popular Hubs for E-Commerce Businesses?
I am trying to target e-commerce merchants to see my Google AdWords ads and would like to know what cities are most popular for e-commerce businesses. I know Delhi is a huge hub in India. I would also assume U.S. cities include Boston, New York, and Seattle. I would also assume London and probably Paris as well. What other cities do you recommend for geo-targeting e-commerce merchants? Thank you!

What are the best ways that PPC and SEO can work together?
This has come up recently internally as we are an agency that traditionally only focuses on SEO. However, when asked to articulate the benefits of how they can work together I normally see rather vague and non-actionable answers that don't really translate to real life always. I can understand how you can use SEO techniques to improve the ROAS of a PPC campaign by improving the quality of a landing page. I am also aware of a number of ways you can use Adwords data from your campaign to improve your SEO campaign but I am curious to know. How else can the two channels work together to help each other out?

Yahoo Local rejected because of office in residence
I have a client with an office in their home. Yahoo Local has rejected it 3 times for No Physical Location The location is correct, they are listed correctly in just about every reputable local directory available including Google Places. They do see clients at their home office. Any suggestions? Should they pay the $300 for the Yahoo Directory? Should they the $9.95 for the enhanced local listing? Thanks in advance...
