    Hello,

I would like to know how the changes in domain authority is counted by MOZ?

Domain Authority for my this domain http://www.grandcrayon.ca/ was 21 and it is decreased to 19 in last week. I have checked the moz report and it shows DA as 19.

We already have grandcrayon.ca and we recently redirected our .com domain (http://www.grandcrayon.com also to .ca so all the back links of .com are now showing in webmaster for .ca.

So i would like to know the reason behind decrement in DA and is there any connection with redirection of .com domain? How can i increase DA for my website?

        Hi Thomas,
As you can see in the answers in this thread, DA can fluctuate with updates and the latest update was April 26. Do you track competitors' sites? That might tell you whether they saw similar changes. One inbound link from a low DA site won't do this. Unless there are other things going on that you didn't mention, this isn't worth worrying about.

          Hi

I recently saw my DA authority drop from low 30s to high 20s by about 6 or 7 points. I'm not sure what may have caused this drop but I do know that I was pushed (by senor colleagues) to accept an inbound link from a new directory website which had a very low DA as just launched and a spam score in Moz of 7. Would this one new link have such an impact on our DA and what implications does this drop create for our overall SEO and metrics?

Thanks for this detail discussion and valuable suggestions.

Now i have some clear ideas about DA. Actually all backlinks of my .com domain comes to .ca and now when i check my webmaster account - links to your site section - there are 42,492 links from .com domain linked to .ca.

We have set a page for .com domain that we have moved to .ca and apply redirection with 2-3 seconds Pause on that page with content about moving site to grandcrayon.ca, I am sharing some screen shot here, please review it and suggest me - Do i require to audit links of .com domain and need to decrease it. Will it affect to my organic results in future?

Looking forward for some good suggestions!

A good idea is to keep track of a couple of your competitors' domain rankings, so you can see how you are doing relative to them.

Another quote from the link that keszi provided:
"It's best to use Page Authority (PA) and Domain Authority (DA) as comparative metrics when doing research in the search results and determining which sites/pages may have more powerful/important link profiles than others."

So if you see that your site went down and your competitors' went down as well, you'll know not to be too concerned.

To follow up on what Keszi has said, it is not uncommon for this value to fluctuate from update to update. The reason is because there are so many things that factor into this score. This is further complicated by the fact that the crawl will not crawl every domain every time. This means you may see less / more "linking domains", and "linking c-blocks" which are factors in DA and PA.

I know when you see a 10% fluctuation you may get a little worried. However, when DA is in the 20's the fluctuation will be more prominent than if you were up in the 40's. Reason being is it is exponentially harder to reach higher domain authorities, which means that there will be a larger swab of linking domains and less likely to change much if a few are missed on each crawl.

                  Hope this helps,

                  Don

                    Hi,

                    I'd quote from Moz: http://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority

"How do I influence this metric?

Unlike other SEO metrics, Domain Authority is difficult to influence directly. It is made up of an aggregate of metrics (MozRank, MozTrust, link profile, and more) that each have an impact on this score. This was done intentionally; this metric is meant to approximate how competitive a given site is in Google.com. Since Google takes a lot of factors into account, a metric that tries to calculate it must incorporate a lot of factors, as well.

The best way to influence this metric is to improve your overall SEO. In particular, you should focus on your link profile—which influences MozRank and MozTrust—by getting more links from other well-linked-to pages."

So answering your question, Yes, you can improve the DA, while working on your SEO.

In general, in my belief, the 301 redirect could have influenced the score, but I would rather check the rankings and organic evolution of the website after the redirect instead of checking only the DA. If the organic results improved, I wouldn't worry to much about the DA itself. (maybe it is just only a temporary glitch until Moz recalculates it's value based on the new information they get).

                    Keszi

Why did my DA and Links go down?

How could I begin to research this to find out why we have less total links and a lower domain authority. Our DA has gone down two points and our total links dropped by a few thousand.  I'd like to find out why that happened but I'm just not sure where to start.  Thanks!

How long for authority to transfer form an old page to a new page via a 301 redirect? (& Moz PA score update?)

Hi How long aproximately does G take to pass authority via a 301 from an old page to its new replacement page ? Does Moz Page Authority reflect this in its score once G has passed it ? All Best

                      Comparing Domain Authority Scores

Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores.  Can you give me a rule of thumb.  For PageRank,  each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses.   Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

Spam Directories creating misleading Authority ratings

How does the website www.starsdirectory.com.ar get a Domain Authority of 54 and a Page Authority of 61 when Google quite correctly gives it a PR 0? It is clearly a spam directory, which Google has recognised. It is very misleading using OSE or Campaign Management when sites such as these (and there are hundreds more we have found) are skewing the results of competitiors through the use of spam links. Is there no way that SEOMoz tools can identify such spam sites when they create their ratings?
