Ecommerce Style Wordpress But No Shopping Cart.
-
Wondering if anyone knows if you can purchase an ecommece style wordpress theme, but not use the shopping cart portion or display pricing. We would like to display our website how an ecommerce is set up, but at this time, we do not sell anything online. We are considering in the near future to sell half of our products. And this would not be very large.
Or can ecommerce be added to any wordpress theme. ?
-
Wordpress does have a number of ecommerce avenues to take. If you are not selling products, but wish to style your site to look like an online store, you may wish to consider using Wordpress "Builder". It offers a lot of functionality and customization options.........

Correct on all points except having ecom on some pages and not others. I don't know if the catalog feature would do this (it's probably all or nothing though there might be some config setting to disable the features on specific products). There are a number of ecommerce plugins for WP so I suggest you take a look and see what works for you. WP e-Commerce I believe has a catalog feature. Here are some other options:

Some of them have free versions that you can use or try before you buy so you can test the theme out.

This is not meant to be an advertisement for any of the things I have listed here, which is why there are no links.
You can add an ecommerce plugin to any wordpress site. A while back I installed the a WP plugin purchased at shopplugin.net. If was installed on a client's site here: livingwheel.com. The WP theme was iblog pro from pagelines.com. Which is a clean, full featured theme. I have no idea if this shopp ecomerce plugin would suit your needs. The point is, you can set any wordpress site up for ecommerce. You can ask the sales department at shopplugin.net if you can disable the shopping cart as you were talking about. Alternatively, do a search for Magento, that is a robust ecommerce solution with lots of sleek templates on the market, that is if you are not married to the Wordpress idea.
Other Theme Companies that have quality WordPress themes are:
Genesis
Elegant themes
Ithemes Builder

Thanks! So I would be able to display products, and disable the (Your Cart Is Empty font, and anything that deals with a shopping cart)? So people wont know it is an ecommerce site? If so, this is great and what I want. Do you buy chance know if there is an option to enable a portion of the website for shopping and a portion disabled? For themes, I want a very clean professional theme, but am having a hard time finding one.

Actually, you might want to consider adding a cart now. Many carts can be used as "catalogs", displaying products and info but disabling the transaction components (cart, buy buttons, price display, etc). The user won't be able to purchase, just view individual product pages. The advantage is that if you do decide to start selling you can enable the transaction features and not have to revise, move, etc. the content.
Either way, the theme, depending on what it is, should work. It is possible that you may have to make some modifications. Have you targeted a specific theme?

Will having two wordpress themes installed hurt seo?
We currently have 3 sites built on WordPress that have little to no blogging capabilities. Currently, all published posts show up on a /category page which does not resemble the traditional blog format and is not aesthetically pleasing. We would like to have a more traditional blog and are considering installing a second wordpress theme on the site which will strictly be used for /blog and all the posts. My question is will having the second WordPress installation on the sites hurt us in any way on the SEO front and if we go this way should we place the install in a subfolder or on a subdomain? Is there anything else we need to worry about with making this transition? Thank you in advance for the advice! Patrick

Wordpress Plugin To Capture Form Completion Data, Before Visitor Hits "Submit"?
Greetings MOZ Community: Visitors frequently start to enter contact information in the forms on our website, but then chicken out and don't hit the submit button. I noticed this watching the recordings of visitor web site visits using Mouse Flow. Is there a Wordpress Plugin that would allow us to capture data entered in forms, where the visitor does not finally hit the "submit" button? Obviously this would be very, very valuable as this scenario occurs in one out of three or four instances. Thanks!!!

Replacing Slider Image WordPress
Hi Everyone, I decided to delete my slider from my homepage and replace it with a static image. However, after I deleted the slider, I'm left with a dark square where the slider used to be. I want to put my new static image in that same spot, but have no idea how. Does anyone know where or what code I should add to do that? The page is www.kempruge.com The WP Forums never seem to be too helpful for me, but Moz always is! Thanks in advance, Ruben

Changing from Squarespace to Wordpress - Will I Lose My Rankings?
I have a friend who has a squarespace site that is giving him lots of trouble. For one, even though it is supposed to redirect to GreenSpaceConstruct.com...Bing and Yahoo don't seem to recognize this domain. Instead, they show greenlightconstruct.squarespace.com in the serp's. Oddly, Google shows the site as GreenSpaceConstruct.com. The site is ranking well for some terms. I'm afraid that converting to wordpress will hurt his rankings in the short term. If bing and yahoo are crawling this squarespace domain, and he moves it...is there a way not to just completely lose the rankings? Thanks for any thoughts. Much appreciated! Josh

Wordpress vs. mvc framework
What's the benefits of choosing an mvc framework such as codeigniter or cakephp over wordpress? Wordpress has so many plugins, and a universally known UI for customers, it just saves a ton of time. However, a lot of the 'big guys' like SEOmoz and Distilled(?) use Cakephp and other mvc frameworks so it has me wondering what the benefits are...... anyone?
