Tracking time spent on a section of a website in Google Analytics
-
Hi,
I've been asked by a client to track time spent or number of pages visited on a specific section of their website using Google Analytics but can't see how to do this.
For example, they have a "golf" section within their site and want to measure how many people either visit 5 page or more within the golf section or spend at least 6 minutes browsing the various golf section pages.
Can anyone advise how if this can be done, and if so, how I go about it.
Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply, really appreciate it. I'll definitely check out Tag Manager.

Use Google Tag Manager: http://www.google.com/tagmanager/
Google Tag Manager allows you to set different "goals", "events", and other criteria. It also links directly to GA, showing the data from GTM as you set it. For example, on one of my client's sites, we use GTM to see how many people use a special offer we have set up, as well as how many conversions are made directly from the homepage, and how many visitors view but don't purchase anything from the small delivery pages we made.
Any amalgamation of pages, processes, triggers, goals, etc. can be made into a specific, tracked item with pertinent information. I also suggest taking time to acquaint yourself with the FAQs for GTM, as it can get as complicated as you desire.

Google Analytics - Events impacting session data
Hi Mozzers, Has anybody ever experienced event tracking significantly impacting session data? Here's a summary of what I'm finding: When I measure sessions to a particular hostname (a subdomain) in my Google Analytics report, sessions dropped by over 100% when I removed some event tracking on that subdomain (an event was triggered when a user clicked on a particular button). When I reinstate that event tracking, sessions go back up to around where they used to be. Can anybody understand why this might be happening? Thanks!

Google Analytics goals only show unique event triggers
I have some goals in GA which is linked to different event triggers. However I've found out that the goal is only showing the unique event triggers and not the total. I need it to show the total in order to be accurate. Is there any way to switch that option? I can't find any options like that in GA or guides to do so.

Whats 'Other' in Google Analytics (in Acquisition)
When i look in GA under Channels (under Acquisition) 'other' is listed What is 'other' ? I have been told its other unidentified channels as they did not allow 3rd party cookies or surfers were in anonymous/private mode. Other is usually organic traffic that couldn't be identified for the aformentioned reasons. This data is encrypted and available but it violates Google guidelines as they are not allowed to pass personal info//data to third parties so it is automatically filtered. But they are not 'Not Provided' (since that still shows under organic) but is usually/mainly some form of organic visits. Hence Seo can take credit for much of that traffic, is this correct ? Many Thanks

Behavior Flow vs. All Pages report in Google Analytics
In the interest of determining why our ecommerce site isn't converting, I've been spending some quality time with GA. I've suspected that our front page is part of the problem, especially where our organic traffic is concerned (we get a good deal of referral traffic from a link on an OEM's site). According to the Behavior Flow report under the Behavior section of GA, organic traffic to our home page is hemorrhaging (roughly 60% bounce rate). But when I went to the All Pages report (Behavior > Site Content > All Pages) and looked at organic traffic to our home page, then looked at the Medium as a secondary dimension, I'm getting a bounce rate of 35%. Why the massive discrepancy? Can somebody assist?

AW Stats vs Google Analytics
Hey Moz Community, I am looking to get opinions on the best practice for analytics/traffic analysis. From experience I know that AW Stats reads high and Google Analytics reads low for traffic for reason in this article http://www.smartz.com/blog/2009/01/23/analytic-confusion-%E2%80%93-awstats-vs-google-analytics/ It drives me a little nuts how far off both are for some pages. I have one article that shows 100 views (GA) and AW stats shows 5 times that number of views. Any suggestions or systems you recommend? Thanks
