Aggregate Rating Markup for Local Restaurant
-
Hello Moz Community,
I am finally getting around to creating markup for a bunch of the sites we work with using JSON-LD. I have a question specifically regarding adding review markup for a local restaurant.
It's my understanding that putting the aggregate rating on the homepage never results in stars being shown in the SERP's.
So what would be the best practice for taking advantage of all the great Google reviews we've accumulated over the years? These are reviews for the restaurant in general and not for any specific service or product.
Should I create a reviews page on the site and use the markup there?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I'm a local dentist and have the same problem. So we have 188 x 5 star reviews. They are appearing next to every blog post I write and every services page but not the homepage. Having those yellow stars in the serps and on the map is HUGE and tyou can get them just not for the homepage.
If you're on wordpress theres a plugin called Google reviews for business that works really well for us. So all your team pages, about pages, blogs and menus can have the stars - just not your homepage. So you could create individual pages for each dish or meal if you like and have stars next to them. So as a dentist I have a braces services page, an Implants one, a cosmetic one and a whitening one, all with reviews in the map, on the page as a slider and in the blogs.
So don't be defeated, you can do it really easily with the plugin!

I now realize that it's against Google's guidelines to markup reviews that aren't generated on your site!
Nevermind!

How can I improve my rank on Google Local?
I am bringing this topic up again. Last year, I suddenly stopped ranking for Google Local search results. I tried backing away and hoping it would correct itself, but it has not. When I do a search for myself, I rarely show up in the results anymore, and this image shows AFTER I've zoomed WAY in just to find myself. I think it has something to do with many fishing charters having the same address. I read the Moz article about which signals are most important, but to be quite honest, I don't think any of these competitors really bother with SEO or even have filled out their Google My Business in its entirety. They all have way less reviews than I do as well. I really try to do everything right, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there something small ad obvious that I am missing. Any ideas on what to do?

JSON-ld markup in Wordpress post
Hello, I updated a blog post with JSON-ld Schema Markup (ItemList): http://www.acmetools.com/blog/11-best-cordless-circular-saws-2017/ It is currently not being recognized within Moz's toolbar, but if you view the structured data testing tool, you will see it is there and has no errors? 1. Does that mean I have an error within my header pertaining to JSON-ld markup? I can also see all the markup in the structured data testing tool. Right after the closed script of the markup I have this message: 2. Is that an issue to have all my markup, then it says START --> then END -->? Should my markup be between them?

We have a link we to: Grace Construction, but the company has switched owners, and is not local anymore.
I have a second question to put forward! Probably close to 8 years ago I exchanged a link with a good friend's construction company, Grace Construction. We are a local fence company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They were new home builders and we sometimes would build a fence for their new home owners. They wrote a positive review of our business and I published it on our reviews page: (it's near the very bottom) http://www.a-better-fence-construction.com/fence-reviews.html And, they linked to our website from their website. However, now after 8 years, they no longer build homes and have let their domain name expire and has been repurchased by a construction company in Florida. I had linked to their website from the text and the image of their logo. I am not up to speed on what is best practice. What do you recommend I do? dwhAV

Google Local Reviews : Creating a Recipricol Reviewing Network
Hi All! I recently came across an invitation for a group on Facebook (created by an internet marketer likely trying to drum up business) that is designed to get a bunch of business professionals to leave reviews for each other (not knowing each other or having worked with one another in any way) in an attempt to build good review profiles on Google local for all. Obviously this is frowned upon, but is it actually dangerous at this point? Are there filters or methods Google has to identify and punish businesses for this type of activity? As someone who always tries to do the right thing, it makes my skin boil when the scammers in our industry use manipulative tactics like this and even more annoyed when they actually work! Look forward to any specific info you all have on this. -Ricky

Local review site discovery
Rand and others have shared a link to a free service where you type in a state location and it shows a list of the most used local listings & review sites for that area. I can't find this service or link anywhere. Was this a service that was on getlisted.org that no longer exists?? Anyone know where it is or where it went?

05/14/2014 5 1. Am I missing anything? 2. Is the itemReviewed tag necessary? 3. If a category/results page has multiple businesses listed and shows their ratings, is marking the businesses up as you would on their individual page okay? What about the ratings? I have a feeling marking the ratings would confuse Google, but the businesses themselves (NAP) should be alright, correct? 4. General Q: Is it alright to have multiple reviewBody tags within one review? For instance, if the review is split into 2 parts and additional code/content is between them that isn't part of the review, can we just add multiple reviewBody tags within the same main div tag? Thanks!0
