My homepage redirects to itself?
-
Hi there - I'm not a SEO so help would be appreciated!
Moz is telling me we have a redirect loop but the URLs are the same.
https://www.example.com/ to https://www.example.com/
Why is my homepage creating a redirect loop to itself?
We use Wordpress and I do not have any redirects listed for our homepage. Could this have something to do with switching to https in April?
Thanks,
Katherine

Hey Katherine,
If you could share the URL of your home page, I could likely tell you what the issue is but if you don't feel comfortable doing that, here are a few suggestions.
1. Install the "Link Redirect Trace" Chrome extension. An awesome extension that gives you the HTTP headers on every URL in real time.
2. Check for some pretty standard domain redirect issues such as:
-http://example.com to http://www.example.com
-http://example.com to https://example.com
-https://example.com to https://www.example.comThe http to https redirect is very common due to old links, the habit of typing http, and the fact that browsers still default to http unless you specify otherwise.
For instance, if you type example.com in the nav bar, your browser will assume you mean http://example.com and try that, at which time you'll be redirected to the https version.
The .htaccess file (if you're on apache) can be a good place to fix the issue once you know what is happening. It's also worth noting that redirects on your home page are not necessarily a bad thing as long as they're one of the aforementioned examples and they're 301 redirects.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes, most likely it is redirecting from hhtp to https. Check your canonical's as well.

First, you need to check your robot.txt and your htaccess file, then check the plugins on your site to see if there is a plugin creating the redirections
Good Luck

Redirection chain and Javascript Redirect
Hi, A redirection chain is usually defined as a page redirecting to another page which itself is another redirection. URL1 ---(301/302)---> URL2 ---(301/302)---> URL3 But what about Javascript redirect? They seem to be a different beast: URL1 ---(301/302)---> URL2 ---(200 then Javascript redirect)---> URL3 From what I know if the javascript redirect is instant Google counts it as a 301 permanent redirection, but I'm still not sure about if this counts as a redirection chain. Most of the tools (such as moz) only see the first redirection. So is that scenario a redirection chain or no?

301 Redirects, Sitemaps and Indexing - How to hide redirected urls from search engines?
We have several pages in our site like this one, http://www.spectralink.com/solutions, which redirect to deeper page, http://www.spectralink.com/solutions/work-smarter-not-harder. Both urls are listed in the sitemap and both pages are being indexed. Should we remove those redirecting pages from the site map? Should we prevent the redirecting url from being indexed? If so, what's the best way to do that?

Max Number of 301 Redirections?
Hi, We currently made a re-design of a website and we changed all our urls to make them shorter. I made more than 300 permanent redirections but plenty more are needed since WMT is showing some more 404s from old urls that I hadn't seen because they were dynamic. The question is, please, is there a limit? I think we have more than 600 already. We don't want to create a php commando to redirect all the old ones to our home, we are redirecting them to their correspondent url. By the way, Im doing them with the 301 method in .htaccess. Thanks in advance.

DNS vs IIS redirection
I'm working on a project where a site has gone through a rebrand and is therefore also moving to a new domain name. Some pages have been merged on the new site so it's not a lift and shift job and so I'm writing up a redirect plan. Their IT dept have asked if we want redirects done by DNS redirect or IIS redirect. Which one will allow us to have redirects on a page level and not a domain level? I think IIS may be the right route but would love your thoughts on this please.

301 redirect relative or absolute path?
Hello everyone, Recently we've changed the URL structure on our website, and of course we had to 301 redirect the old urls to the coresponding new ones. The way the technical guys did this is: "http://www.domain.com/old-url.html" 301 redirect to "/new-url.html"
Technical SEO | | Silviu
meaning as a relative redirect path, not an absolute one like this:
"http://www.domain.com/old-url.html" 301 redirect to "http://www.domain.com/new-url.html" This happened for few thousands urls, and the fact is the organic traffic dropped for those pages after this change. (no other changes were made on these pages and the new urls are as seo friendly as possible, A grade on On-Page Grader). The question is: does the relative redirect negatively affects seo, or it counts the same as an absolute path redirect? Thanks,

How do I fix a 301 Redirect Loop?
Saturday I waas doing some correcting of some duplicate titles, including nofollowing tags, etc. (my main problem was duplicate titles due to tags and categories being indexed). Now this morning I see that one of my pages refuses to load, citing a 301 redirect loop. http://www.incredibleinfant.com/feeding/switching-baby-formula/ Originally, the page was posted under the wrong category. http://www.incredibleinfant.com/uncategorized/switching-baby-formula I resaved it under the correct category (feeding) and now it won't load. Can someone help me figure out how to correct this mess? Thanks so much Heather
