I have recently also signed up to MozPro and it says I have a redirect chain on

    http://rogerlapin.co.uk

I am not sure where to start looking to fix this?

    Site is running on Wordpress

Also not sure how big of an issue it is as site is working ok?

Bit confused as i used this http://www.redirect-checker.org/index.php

    and it reports no issues?

you will be better off doing it at the domain registrar "manage dns" section. if thats not avialable than just set it up under cloud flare to go directly to https for all versions. make sure you update all your urls in your wordpress install.

        Thanks Joe,

I have a plugin called Really Simple SSL which just has a radio button which says

Enable Wordpress 301 redirection to SSL - so need to do a bit more research to fix this one

        Roger

I've had a look at your site & you have

          1. http://rogerlapin.co.uk/ - Status code 301 - redirect URL to https://rogerlapin.co.uk/
          2. https://rogerlapin.co.uk/ - Status code 301 - **redirect URL **https://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/
          3. https://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/ - Status code 200

You're using number 3 (above) as your URL, so, my suggestion is to set both the redirect URLs for 1 & 2 (above) to https://www.rogerlapin.co.uk/ instead of the chain you currently appear to have in place.

Why Only Our Homepage Can Be Crawled Showing a Redirect Message as the Meta Title

Hello Everyone, So recently when we checked our domain using a Moz Crawl Test and Screaming Frog only the homepage comes up and the meta title says “You are being redirected to…”. We have several pages that used to come up and when submitting them to GSC no issues come up. The robots.txt file looks fine as well. We thought this might be ‘server’ related but it’s a little out of our field of expertise so we thought we would find out if anyone has any experience with this (ideas of reasons, how to check…etc.) or any potential suggestions. Any extra insight would be really appreciated. Please let us know if there is anything we could provide further details for that might. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thanks in advance. Best,

SEO impact of redirecting high ranking mirror site to the main website

During SEO audit for a client I noticed that they had over a dozen duplicate websites that are carbon copies of the main website. This was done via CMS platform and DNS. One of the mirror sites has about 400 indexed pages and has Moz DA of 42 and 137k External Equity-Passing Links. Full metrics comparison is attached. I originally planned on doing rel="canonical" on the mirror site but the CMS vendor never even heard of it and is refusing to implement it in the header. My only other option is doing one to one 301 redirects. Since the mirror site ranks well, even competes with main domain for some positions on the 1st page of SERP, what will be the impact after the redirects? Is doing 301's still the best option? Thanks! Pages with Temporary Redirects on pages that don't exist!

Hi There Another obvious question to some I hope. I ran my first report using the Moz crawler and I have a bunch of pages with temporary redirects as a medium level issue showing up. Trouble is the pages don't exist so they are being redirected to my custom 404 page. So for example I have a URL in the report being called up from lord only knows where!: www.domain.com/pdf/home.aspx This doesn't exist, I have only 1 home.aspx page and it's in the root directory! but it is giving a temp redirect to my 404 page as I would expect but that then leads to a MOZ error as outlined.  So basically you could randomize any url up and it would give this error so I am trying to work out how I deal with it before Google starts to notice or before a competitor starts to throw all kinds at my site generating these errors. Any steering on this would be much appreciated!

How long for authority to transfer form an old page to a new page via a 301 redirect? (& Moz PA score update?)

Hi How long aproximately does G take to pass authority via a 301 from an old page to its new replacement page ? Does Moz Page Authority reflect this in its score once G has passed it ? All Best

404 even after Successful 301 Redirection

Hi, I've got quite few 404 error links on my site and I manually redirected all of them one by one with 301. They are redirecting successfully. But when I check my MOZ analysis, it still shows me as 404 error. I've done this about 4 days ago and MOZ crawled to my site couple times after that if it's not everyday. Do you know what the issue could be? And how can I fix it? PS: I've used Wordpress Redirection tool for it first and redirection did not work. Then I had to install the Simple 301 Redirects plugin to get it done.

            Redirect analysis tool

I'm looking for a tool like this: http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/ that can check hundreds/thousands of URLs and give me a report as to which ones have been redirected. Does anyone know of something that can do this?

Some questions on Canonical tag AND 301 redirect

Hi everyone, I'm new here - always loved SEOMoz and glad to be part of the Pro community now. I have 2 questions regarding the Canonical URL tag. Some background info: We used to run an OsCommerce store, and recently migrated to Magento. In doing so, we right away created 301 redirects of the old category pages (OsCommerce) to the new category pages (Magento) via the Magento admin. Example: www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
            301 redicrected to
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html In Magento admin, we have enabled the Canonical tag for all product and category pages. Here's how Magento sets up the Canonical tag: The URL of interest which we want to rank is:
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html However Magento sets up the canonical tag on this page to point to:
www.example.com/old-widget-category.html When using the SEOMoz On Page Report Card, it pick this up as an error because the Canonical tag is pointing to a different URL. However, if we dig a little deeper, we see that the URL being pointed to
            www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
            has a 301 redirect to
            www.example.com/new-widget-category.html
which is the URL we wan to rank. So because we set up a 301 redirect of the old-page to the new-page, on the new-page the canonical tag points to the old-page. Question 1)
What are you opinions on this? Do you think this method of setting up the Canonical tag is acceptable? Second question... We use pagination for category pages, so if we have 50 products in one category, we would have 5 pages of 10 products. The URL's would be: www.example.com/new-widget-category.html (which is the SAME as ?p=1)
            www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=1
            www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=2
            www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=3
            www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=4
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=5 Now ALL the URLs above have the canonical tag set as:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/new-widget-category" /> However, the content of each page (page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is different because different products are displayed. So far most what I read regarding the Canonical tag is that it is used for pages that have the same content but different URLs. I would hope that Google would combine the content of all 5 pages and view the result as a single URL www.example.com/new-widget-category Question 2) Is using the canonical tag appropriate in the case described above? Thanks !
